Villa Carmen is a characteristic and welcoming two-story villa which faces the sun and the sea. It sleeps six people. From Villa Carmen you will enjoy an enchanting view of the sea and of the coast of Amalfi . Villa Carmen is 80 square meters (860 square feet). It features two nice private terraces with a view of the sea, a private garden, air conditioning (please read description below to check in which rooms the units are installed) and winter heating.
You will be in a pedestrian precinct, in the seventeenth-century historic center of Praiano , where you will find a grocery store and public transportation. You will find the closest re...staurant at 200 meters (660 feet), the stop for the Flavio Gioia bus interno Praiano line at 20 meters (65 feet) and the closest beach ( Marina di Praia Beach ) at 1.5 km (roughly 1 mile). You will reach Villa Carmen from the street level going down a short public walkway that cuts through the garden and includes approximately 15 stairway steps.
You will not need a car to stay at Villa Carmen. If you do have one, you will be able to park it nearby, for a fee, along the public roads (the actual distance might vary depending on the availability of parking spaces).
Villa Carmen is located in the heart of the historical center of Praiano, which is an ancient fishermen's village located halfway between Amalfi and Positano , and made up of a cluster of small white houses that cling to the rocky cliff, sheer above the sea. Seen from a distance, it seem that the houses have been built one above the other, following the contour of the steep coast. When you take a closer look you find out that they are separated by thriving gardens and vegetable gardens dug into the side of the cliff. They are reached along narrow alleys and picturesque "scalinatelle" (stairways cut into the cliff), which seem to reach for the sky or dive straight into the sea.
Villa Carmen is just one of these cute small houses, white-washed, with the shape of a cube, topped by its typical barrel dome, and clinging to the sloping terrain. You will reach it from the road walking through a tiny yard, shared with another similar house, where bushes of flowers and roses frame well-arranged rows of salad and other vegetables. You will enter the house through a small entrance door that will take you to a large terrace, from where you will only see sky and sea.
The area of Praiano where Villa Carmen is located is inhabited by authentic locals, who live their peaceful life framed by the splendid natural beauty of the coast, of the sky and of the sea. At close distance from the villa you will not find crowds of tourists, nor the clutter of tourist shops and restaurant: you will see just a few shops selling basic items, and the friendly faces of the locals that you will meet in the streets. By the way, don't be surprised if everyone here will be saying hello when they meet you in the street - get ready to greet them and to smile back!
The garden is 35 square meters (375 square feet) large. From the garden you will enjoy a pleasant view of the sea. You will share the garden with the guests staying at the complex, at another nearby apartment.
The first terrace is 15 square meters (160 square feet) large. It is equipped with two deck chairs. From the terrace you will enjoy a broad view of the sea.
You will be able to enter the first bedroom from the corridor. The bedroom has a matrimonial bed (160 cm/62 inches, wider than a queen-size bed) and a twin bed (80 cm/32 inches). From the bedroom you will be able to enter the first terrace with a view of the sea and of the coastline through a French door. The bedroom is equipped with an air conditioning/heating unit. This bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, equipped with a washbasin, a toilet and a fully enclosed shower.
You will be able to enter the second bedroom from the corridor. The bedroom has a matrimonial bed (160 cm/62 inches, wider than a queen-size bed) and a twin bed (80 cm/32 inches). In this room you will find a small television. From the bedroom you will be able to enter the first terrace with a view of the sea and of the coastline through a French door. The bedroom is equipped with an air conditioning/heating unit.
The bathroom is equipped with a washbasin, a toilet, a bathtub with shower wand and a hairdryer. You will be able to enter the bathroom from the corridor.
The second terrace is 10 square meters (107 square feet) large. It is equipped with a table, chairs and a swing. From the terrace you will enjoy an enchanting view of the sea.
The ceiling of the living room is high and vaulted. The furnishings are cozy and comfortable, and include some antique pieces. The furnishings include a sofa , two armchairs and a desk. The dining table can accommodate six guests. In this room you will find a flat-screen television. From the living room you will be able to enter the second terrace with a view of the sea and of the coastline through a French door. The room is equipped with an air conditioning/heating unit.
You will be able to enter the kitchen from the living room. It is equipped with a three-burner gas cooker, an electric oven, a refrigerator with freezer, a dishwasher, an Italian-style coffee-maker and a toaster. Here you will also find a washing machine. The kitchen has a window overlooking the second terrace.

The villa was clean and very roomy with all facilities
Supply stores were a few metres away.
The people were very friendly and helpful.
The bus service was outside the door but not always regular.
Plenty of exercise walking to the beach, but extremely enjoyable.
This was our 2nd time in 2 years at villa Carmen. In 2006 we visited in May and it was wonderful. In 2008 we visited in August and it was extremely hot inside because with no air conditioning and only 1 working fan it was unbearable. to add to this discomfort we were taken over by ants, my daughters suitcase was so full of ants that we had to throw it out and buy a new one. This is actually a problem also outside the Villa, since we were leaning over the rail on the street outside the Villa and there were literally thousands of ants on the railing. The Villa itself has beautiful views over the sea and has only about 12 steps down from the street to enter, however I think it's time to change the kithen cabinets as they are on its last legs. We love Praiano and the location of the Villa since it has 2 grocery stores closeby and the bus stop 100 feet away. Summer In Italy is very professional in its dealings through e-mail, however I should have tested them when asking for another couple of fans by calling them instead of the manager because things were not looked after to our satisfaction.
