What beautiful views all around at the Chicory. It is located about 40 miles north of the entrance to Yellowstone. We had such a relaxing vacation and the service was great. We felt at home in the the house, cooking our own meals on the grill and sitting in the hot tub watching the shooting stars. We loved it!

The whole process of booking and renting the house was done very well. The house was of wonderful decor and had everything handy and available in it.
The only problem we had was the master bedroom shower was not producing hot water so had to call the staff who then called the plumber. He came out the next day to fix it.
The views from the house were fantastic and the deck was a wonderful addition to the outside of the house.
It was in a very peaceful area and two of the days of our vacation we just relaxed at the house which was great.
The staff involved keep it very clean and there are lots of supplies in it.
We miss staying in it and being in Montana already!

Chicory Overlook was a great respite from the more rustic (read "less comfortable") cabins that we've stayed in. Eagles and elk, rushing Yellowstone River, great location! Well-equiped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, spacious bathrooms...perfect!

Spotless, everything we needed was there. No need to worry about towels, soap or even coffee. Perfect location, easy access into Y.S. or Livingston. Tac shop 1 mile from the house was an unexpected gem to find. We appreciated the basic weights in the lower level along w/ the protein shakes that were left behind from another guest...started to think our trainer had sent them ahead of time! The fact it had satelite was a plus as it gave the parents a break to let the kids unwind. We stayed in 3 different places over 12 days on this trip and this home was by far, the best place. Home away from home...as I said above...perfecto'! I wish the check in time was a bit earlier though. 5PM is pretty late as a standard.

Overall we found our stay at Chicory Overlook to be wonderful. The beds were comfortable, the house nicely furnished and the kitchen was good. The only complaint we had was that the basement space was not very functional with only an outdoor entrance and no bathroom. So the space felt smaller than we had anticipated. It worked well though and I would recommend to any friends using this house or something similar.

We had a great stay at Chicory Overlook. The directions were perfect, we went to Yellowstone 3 days, saw bear, elk, big horned sheep, and buffalo. The house was very clean, we had a little problem with the upstairs TV, but were able to watch what we wanted downstairs. The area around the house was great for running and walking, the denim jacket in the closet came in handy for the cool weather early in the week. We would definately recommend this place.

      Lovely views and comfortable

Left on 08/30/2009 for a stay in August 2009

Chicory Overlook offers beautiful views across the Yellowstone River with stunning mountains in the background. Overall, we were happy with choosing this home. The deck was our favorite and most of our time at the house was spent there. We savored every minute we could overlooking such stunning beauty. Having our morning coffee there was the perfect start before heading off to Yellowstone.
The house is very comfortable, but does have just a few issues. For the most part, we'd recommend staying there. It's furnished very nicely and really we appreciated all the little necessities that were provided like hair dryers and laundry detergent. It does get warm in the home midday, even with the blinds drawn, but it cools down quickly in the early evening.
We also enjoyed the hot tub a couple of evenings. It is really inconvenient with the timing of the sprinkler system, though, as it goes off just as it was getting dark. We had to maneuver getting back into the house without getting sprayed with cold water...failed both times. One other issue we had was with the room in the lower level that has its own entrance. We checked it out the first day we arrived and it smells horrible. Someone else had commented about a paint smell previously, and it's still there. We locked it back up and never went in again. You definitely would not want to plan on someone sleeping down there. There is a small tv upstairs but only a trundle bed for sitting on...not very comfortable. We hardly turned the tv on so it wasn't a big deal for us, but might be for some.
It is a bit of a drive to Yellowstone, but it's a beautiful one through the mountains. We're already talking about our next trip back. It's like nothing we've ever experienced before and we can't wait to explore even more of it.
Thanks to the staff at MH-MVR. The house was very clean and we appreciated the good communication about how everything worked in the house. We'd definitely book with them again.

      Hi Judy V -

Thanks for your comments about your stay at Chicory Overlook. We're glad you enjoyed your time there and in the Park. Thank you, too, for the candid feedback about how we could improve the home. We have the sprinkler issue taken care of - we've changed the timing! As of this fall, the fresh paint smell in the lower entrance family room is gone - though we will continue to monitor it, as you and another group really did notice it. We appreciate you letting us know about these things - it's how we improve our homes and service.

And thank you for your kind words about our office staff. We do try to be the best! Please come stay with us again.

We spent a week at this home, and it was absolutely wonderful! We were extremely impressed with the preparation of the home -- especially the cleanliness and how well-stocked it was. And the views from every direction are spectacular! We felt very much at home here, and definitely were not ready to leave when our week was up. It was just a bit far from Yellowstone -- it took us every bit of 40 minutes to get there each time we went into the park. However, most of our time was spent on the northern edges of the park, so it wasn't too bad. The drive through Paradise Valley was beautiful, also!

Left on 05/13/2009 for a stay in June 2008

Beautiful view from the dining table. The layout did not work for our family. The mosquitos were so bad that we didn't get to use the hot tub at all. There wasn't a path mowed to the river. We also had trouble getting in and out of the house without getting wet from the sprinklers (could not use the deck because it stayed wet all the time). The den below had just been painted and the screen on the patio door was missing so we could not use the den due to the strong odor of paint. There wasn't a room for us to all gather and watch TV. We had to wash towels and washcloths because we did not have enough for the 5 nights.

Kelly and I spent a week at the Chicory Overlook. It was the most Romantic and exciting vacation of all time. The house was perfect with the Jacuzzi overlooking the River and soaking times were 3 to 4 times daily. The weather was Crazy, it rained every day on us with some of the most spectacular Lightning storms we have ever seen. We would go onto the deck and try getting pictures of the lightning as it jetted to the ground, we got a few. I recommend this house or any in the Paradise Valley, it was the best vacation of all time and can't wait to go back.

      Big Sky = Big Relaxation

Left on 04/30/2009 for a stay in September 2008

There are many places to vacation in California, and I have been fortunate enough to see most of them. I am even fortunate enough to have been to many of them more than once, and even some of them yearly. There are not many prior experiences that could have prepared me for the amazing splendor of Montana.

Let me break from the review for a second to share the definition of splendor:

      1. brilliant or gorgeous appearance, coloring, etc.; magnificence: the splendor of the palace.
      2. an instance or display of imposing pomp or grandeur: the splendor of the coronation.
      3. great brightness; brilliant light or luster.

There is no better word in the English language to describe Montana.

Our rental it was exactly what we expected from the outside, the mountain-home site does a great job of representing the rentals. The inside however could not have been properly respresented no matter how many pictures they used. It was GORGEOUS. We enjoyed this home as much as, if not more than our home. We had planned to use the house as a base of operations for our many adventures...the house became the vacation. I could walk down to the river and throw a line in while the family watched from the spa, then at night the wife and I could sit in the spa and enjoy a bottle of wine while listening to the river flow by.

Montana has a lot to offer and we got to see most of it, but it was the time we spent at the vacation rental that made this vacation.

We have not experienced a more relaxing vacation, especially one where you don't have to go anywhere to get relaxed. We cannot wait to go back!

My husband and I stayed with our three and a half year old. Everything about staying here was easy and fun. It was nicely decorated, clean, and comfortable. Couches were great. The hot tub was great. It was quiet. The home was very clean and had plenty of supplies. We bar-be-qued each night and saw incredible sunsets from the deck. The views were fantastic from every window. I was a bit worried about noise from the highway across the river but it was never a problem. There were spices, olive oil, vinegar and other basic kitchen things to use. This place had everything one could want in a vacation rental. We don't fish, so we I don't know about fishing but it seemed easy enough to walk on down to the river and throw in a line. We check out the river and iot looked like there were fishing spots. The stairs were a bit of a worry with our child but we were able to close his bedroom door and he stayed in his room. I'd definitely stay here again and I'd highly recommend this to anyone. Well done!

      Beautiful View!

Left on 04/24/2009 for a stay in August 2008

The house itself is beautiful, and the view out the back is breathtaking! The layout of the house is a bit awkward. The deck is not accessible through a living room door, like one would imagine it would be, but you have to actually go out the front door, and around the side of the house to get to the deck, which we found a bit annoying. They have a great grill on the deck, but had no grilling tools anywhere on the grill or inside the house. They also had no serving platters, so make sure you bring your own. Our first day there, we needed a plunger, but there was none to be found. Luckily, the next door neighbor, who was absolutely wonderful, brought one over for us. We did make these comments to the management company after our stay, so hopefully by now, they've solved some of these issues. Overall, we did enjoy our stay there, and felt that our experience with management regarding these issues was extremely professional and positive and would absolutely use them again to rent a home!

      Hello Viviana -

Thank you for your candid comments about your stay at Chicory Overlook last summer. You are right...there should be a door from the dining room right out to the deck overlooking the river. We would love the owner to make that change someday. (Update on January 11, 2010: The owner plans to add a door from the dining area to the deck in spring 2010!) In the meantime, there is a bit of a loop to make getting from the living area around to the deck. And yes, we responded to your requests last summer for grilling tools, etc. Thank you for bringing that to our attention, as those amenities are supposed to be stocked in all of our homes! We're glad that your stay was overall a good one and we hope that you will be our guests again soon.

We rented this for our honeymoon and were extremely happy with everything from the house to the excellent customer service we received during the rental process. The hot tub was a great feature that we used often. The views from the deck and even the driveway were incredible. The house was fully equipped with every immenity imaginable. The drive to Yellowstone was very easy and not too far. The Yellowstone river had great trout fishing and we even floated down it in a blow up kayak and stopped occasionally to fish. That was fun and relaxing. I would recommend this mountain home to anyone. It is first rate and so is their customer service. Even the neighbors were great, very friendly and helpful! You will not be disappointed with this home. We would definitely stay again if the occasion arose. I cannot say enough how perfect everything was. Thanks for the wonderful memories!

This is the first time that we stayed in a vacation rental home
instead of a hotel or condo and it was fantastic.
The house was right on the Yellowstone River and there were even
flies for fly fishing in the kitchen drawer!
We spent 2 days sightseeing in Yellowstone Park that was
incredible, went on a guided fishing trip on the Boulder River, and
fished Nelson's Spring Creek which is only 10 minutes away.
The area is a fly fishers dream there are so many famous rivers
      nearby to fish.
The house was immaculate and I can't think of a single thing that
      we needed or wanted.
The service from Montana Vacation Rentals was first class and they
really went above and beyond to ensure a great stay.
