Lake Oswego, ORIt was okay.
Left on 02/21/2013 for a stay in January 2013
The rental process was straightforward and honest.
The condominium met expectations for a basic vacation rental. The furnishings were adequate but not very comfortable. (The bed and especially the couches were too soft.
The view from the condo is excellent. Getting to and from the parking lot to the condo was a bit challenging for one of us with temporarily impaired mobility.
The view was by far the best feature; the renter above us who kept feeding birds created a nuisance for us for the duration of our stay, since nenes, chickens and other birds congregated on our lanai and used it as their bathroom. -

We enjoyed our stay at the Hanalei Bay Resort in May. The condo is in a nice location in Princeville, which is somewhat of a resort community (right next to the St. Regis.) It is well appointed in that it has all kitchen equipment, comfortable beds and furniture, and (most importantly) a lanei facing Hanalei Bay. The resort itself is not as fancy as it's neighbor or many of the resorts on the South Shore, but that isn't really the style of the North Shore. It is a more laid back, nature-centric area, and we knew that going in. The resort does have a decent pool, but there is no restaurant on site (it burned down a few years ago and is being rebuilt currently.) The grocery store is a 5 minute drive away, so you could cook for yourself if that is something that you like to do (it is quite expensive, but then again so are the restaurants.) The town of Hanalei, about a ten-minute drive, is where you will find most of the restaurants (which range from OK to slightly better than decent.) We did have rain for two days during our 3-day stay, but actually didn't mind. The lanei is covered, and the rain didn't disrupt the awesome view or the temperature of the beer.
Presumably, you may be contemplating some hiking - if so, I would highly recommend the trail that begins at Kee Beach and goes two miles into the Na Pali coast. It's about a 30-minute drive from the condo, and was the highlight of our week on Kauai. Surprisingly, we didn't actually visit the beach at the resort after spending 3+ days in Poipu and getting our fill of beach. So, can't comment on the quality of the beach, but Kee Beach was pretty great.
All in all, we thought that Joyce's condo was a great value on the North Shore. If you don't mind going offsite for food and can navigate some steep hills, then I would highly recommend the condo. I'm sure you will love the view as much as we did.

Cincinnati, OHLovely condo with incredible view! Can't wait to go back!
Left on 03/30/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We spent 2 weeks in this lovely 1-bedroom condo in February and couldn't have been happier. The condo is furnished in an attractive island-style. The kitchen is very well appointed. The bed is comfortable and the shower is great. But the best feature by far is definitely the view of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai and surroundings. I could sit on the lanai and stare at that view for hours! Very relaxing and peaceful!
We rented from Joyce at Incredible Journey Travel. She always responded quickly to my calls & emails and she was fun to work with. She also helped us with a rental car for the island at a much better price than we found anywhere online.
Hanalei Bay Resort has very attractive landscaped grounds, a large main pool with a waterfall & natural rock spa and a smaller second pool. We liked the location of this condo in the 7000 building - it is very quiet, since it's located away from the parking lot, main pool and tennis courts. It's near the smaller second pool, which we enjoyed. There is also a big "outdoor kitchen" next to the smaller pool with gas grills, stove, fridge, etc... The pathway to the building from the parking lot is a bit steep, but the resort has golf-cart service to take you right to your door if you don't feel like walking. The resort sits on a hill overlooking the bay, and it is a long, steep walk to the beach - but again, you can call for a golf-cart to take you up or down whenever you want. The beach is one of the most beautiful places on earth, with everchanging views of the bay, the mountains, surfers, etc - located right next to St. Regis Hotel's beach.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommed Incredible Journey Travel, Hanalei Bay Resort and this condo to everyone. We love the condo & the resort and hope to return again soon! -

Our first trip to Kauai and hopefully not the last! Hanalei Bay Resort was exactly what we were looking for! The grounds are beautiful, the pool is outstanding, the staff was nice and helpful! Our unit was very comfortable with everything you could possible need and unbelievable views. The only thing I could suggest to make it better would be for the trees and undergrowth on the bluff to be cut back to allow for even better views of the water! Oh! another thing...you must be in good shape if you want to walk to the beach! The walk down is beautifull! but the walk back up is tough! We were told there once was a phone by the beach that you could use to call for a golf cart to come and get you, but we didn't see one! Also the walk up the hill from the unit is steep, but you can call from your unit for a golf cart if you need it, we chose to walk for the excercise! At lunch every day there are hamburgers, bar-b-que, etc available cooked to order by the pool and it was delicious and affordable! !! We even enjoyed the rooster crowing in the morning!!! ( It had been years since I woke up to that sound!) We named him Henry! : ) Warning: Chickens are everywhere on the island!! I think the locals see them as a nuciance, but we actually enjoyed seeing them!
I have always said Maui was my favorite Island , but now I'm not sure...I think I need to go back to Kauai again before I can decide : )
I would definetly recommend this Resort and this unit!
The Island of Kauai is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, it's quaint villages and exotic scenery are second to none! There is no way to really describe it's raw ,natural , untouched beauty! You simply have to see it with your own eyes! I can't wait to go back!!! -

Saint Paul, MinnesotaHanalei Bay Resort Condo with Lovely Lanai and View of Ocean
Left on 01/10/2011 for a stay in January 2011
We've stayed at Hanalei Bay Resort over 4 times. This condo is well-appointed, nicely decorated, and has a lovely lanai and view of Hanalei Bay mountain range and ocean. Joyce, the owner, does a great job of communicating and is very caring about the people who stay in her condo. On the down side, this is a first-floor unit that has a water/mold issue that needs to be addressed by the owner. When we arrived the first thing that I had to do was re-wash all of the bed linens and towels as they were very musty smelling. The fan vent in the bathroom is covered in mold; as was the shower curtain and a starfish that hangs in the bathroom. The condo overall smells very strongly of mold; as do the carpets and sofas. We kept the lanai doors open at all times when we were at the condo and we burned incense to reduce the musty smell. I would still recommend this condo, as the lanai and view is lovely and the owner is very helpful. But, if you are allergic to mold, then you would absolutely not want to rent this condo.

Aloha Kate,
Actually there are no mold issues in our condo - you stayed just prior to a torrential rain (over 22 inches in one day) and when it rains this hard in the tropics and the tradewinds don't blow (as they stop blowing until after it rains) the air gets stagnant. You were correct in keeping the doors open and the plantation shutters as this will get a cross breeze going.
However, if there was a problem with the cleaning I could have rectified this immediately if you contacted me. This is the first I heard about any issues.
My cleaner would have come immediately and put fresh linens on the beds, and replaced towels.
I advise all my guests upon arrival to contact me if there are ANY issues so that their well deserved vacation is a success not a downer. The last thing I ever want to hear is that any of my clients had to clean the condo/private home/cottage they are staying in so that they are comfortable.
Again, our condo does NOT have a mold issue - it is the mustiness of being in the tropics and the major rain storm that affected so many locals and guests of Kauai for about a one month period of time.
Thank you for still rating our condo and property high - we do try our best to make it paradise for all who come to visit!

Huntington, NYHanalei Bay Resort - the basis of a great Kauai Vacation !
Left on 08/22/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Kauai is the most incredible island - period. While there - zip line, helicopter, sunset cruise the Napali coast . . . but create a great base by staying at the very reasonable but 4 star Hanalei Bay resort. We had a view of the famous Bali Hai "mountain" (from South Pacific) from every room in our two unit oasis ! Just phenomenal. Best vacation anyone could dream of. Get to know "your owner" - this increases the value of the experience for you both. In our case - "Joyce's Vacation Instructions" were worth the price of the rental !
