      We loved the room!

Left on 03/13/2013 for a stay in March 2013

My Fiance and i stayed here for 6 nights. It has such a beautiful view of the mountains and pool area!...the pull out sofa bed wasn't very comfortable but we knew that was a possibility. Next time we'll pay a little extra for the real thing. Besides that, it was a cozy condo. It has the small kitchen area with just about everything you need to cook small meals. It was clean and did i mention the view? breathtaking! ...also a nice little balcony with small table and chairs to enjoy. Its not the most updated room but i would say the view alone makes up for that. The grounds are clean and the green plants and flowers and trees are beautiful. The staff are very friendly as well. and the beach is just a golf cart/walk away... i would stay here again!

Balcony view, over looking the pool area.

Also, their is a little market area near for groceries, shopping, post office, some places to eat and gas station. convenient area. The Hanalei area is awesome and about 10min away...Kaypso is where we frequented. Bartender Will was especially cool.

      Fantastic!

Left on 03/07/2013 for a stay in January 2013

This was a perfect place for my husband and I to stay. He could walk to the surf every morning and I could sit at the beautiful pool. There are plenty of fun thing to do on Kauai and we did a lot of them. Lot's of hikes including Waimea Canyon, Sleeping Giant Mtn, Kulau Ridge and Powerline Walk and of course the NaPali Trail. One of the most fun things we did was a helicopter ride. We did Jack Harker, the one with no doors, it was great.
The people at the resort were very nice and helpful. From the ladies at the front desk to the women who cleaned and the guys who drove the golf carts, I was always treated well.
The unit was clean and well kept, only missing a colander (for people who cook) and maybe a dust pan for the broom. Otherwise, it was great.

      Comfortable and convenient

Left on 08/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012

I had a very pleasant stay at the Hanalei Bay Resort, especially after roughing it in the mountains. The view from my balcony over the gardens, the pool, and the distant mountains was beautiful. The room itself was efficient and comfortable, with a large bathroom area and kitchen and open living space during the day. The sofa bed was tolerable. It would have been nice to have a kettle in the kitchen, but otherwise is was reasonably well-equipped. You can walk down to a nice beach shared with the St. Regis, it is very convenient to services at the Princeville Centre, including a nice grocery store, gas station, and surprisingly, a hot yoga studio which saved me after long hikes along the Kalalau Trail. I could explore the north shore to the west, heading to Tunnels or the farmers' market, or head over to anini Beach, Kilauea to the bird sanctuary or for the biggest wrap I've ever eaten at the fish market. Staff were friendly, laundry machines were very inexpensive, and I was happy for the free internet access in the very pleasant, open air lobby. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my accommodation.

Old Dog in a Fantastic Location

Left on 05/31/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Perched on the soaring cliffs overlooking the Hanalei bay, the HBR used to be the place to stay. While the pool is wonderful, the tennis courts abundant, and the breezes cool, this resort has seen better days. What we found were rooms that were run down and in need of refreshing, a restaurant that had been closed for over a year (soon to reopen, they say), no lounge or bar, no access to any dinning near by (except for the St Regis which was very expensive) and limited activity resources. On the plus side, a short 10 minute walk down the hill puts one at a lovely sandy beach shared with the St Regis next door (whose recliners you are forbidden from using), the hotel grounds are wonderful, and there are some units with fantastic views - be sure you get one of those.

      Great Location

Left on 04/05/2011 for a stay in January 2011

The grounds were well maintained. The walk to the beach was a big plus. The rooms needed a bit more cleaning. The toilet in one bathroom was rocking and needed tightening to the floor.

5 star property, 2 star room

Left on 10/20/2010 for a stay in October 2010

Hanalei Bay Resort is the best resort in terms of property one could imagine! The pool and grounds are beautiful beyond belief. The beach (which was not talked much about in the reviews) is private and very good. We enjoyed it as much as as the more public beaches in every way.
The room, however, was dated. The barstools and coffee table were falling apart and needed my screwdriver to help them out. The master bedroom toilet was not seated well and rocked every time someone sat on it. The lighting was poor in every room (except the bathroom). The doors had a full inch of space below them, which would allow bugs, even mice to enter if they wanted.
It would take such a small amount to make the room as nice as the property. It was a shame it was not. We would stay at the property in a heartbeat--but not if the room was the same as 1207-1208.
