Further details

Our Background:

In 2010 Riad Laksiba enjoyed an entire restoration, in "Old Palace" style; (in keeping with the UNESCO World Heritage status) whilst being filmed for House Hunters International; an American TV Show dedicated to owners buying abroad.

September 2010 the TV show was rolled out to a Global Network of some 97 Million homes. Now; regular repeats!

October 2010 we elected to "open the doors" of our special Riad home for guests to enjoy and sample the immediate community that has given so much pleasure. Amazingly our first guests came from as far away as Canada and Azerbaijan. The TV show "struck a chord" to many travellers visiting Europe who felt a budget trip to Marrakech could be squeezed in.

Today: We have hosted guests from all over the Globe.... but mainly British. Some booked onto Yoga Retreats, some renting Riad Laksiba Exclusively for family and friends, others just a room for a night whilst passing through.

A little Riad; Just 5 en-suited bedrooms, ideal for Exclusive Use or Individual Rooms, a ground floor patio with Splash Pool, a Roof Terrace for sunbathing and plenty of nooks and crannies for a little quiet space in the shade. Free wi-fi for keeping contact back home and a maid, manager and guardian to look after you during your stay.

Come and visit us and discover the community, culture and mystique that is Marrakech. Don't just be a tourist.... come and experience Morocco whilst at Riad Laksiba.

Suitability

A RIAD is a Moroccan house with an internal patio/courtyard or garden. Riad Laksiba has an internal patio with a SPLASH POOL. Riad's have roof terraces. Riad Laksiba has superb views of the snow capped Mighty Atlas Mountains (in the winter season). You also look across the treetops of the Royal Agdal gardens, the Kasbah Mosque, Mohamed VI (the current King) Palace, Hassan II's Place, the Badi Palace. Riad Laksiba is located in the Royal quarter (the Kasbah) a short stroll from the Saadian Tombs, Royal Palaces and Gardens and the Main Square (d'Jemaa el fna).

Further details indoors

The English Owner has done an utterly successful restoration of his Marrakech Medina Riad, his architectural concepts, design & build subtly resonate throughout Riad Laksiba. Blending creams and beige, terracotta, cedar wood, plaster effects (tadelakt) all of which sympathetically harmonise without attempting a bold-statement. “Old Palace”, style, is a tall order for any designer and very hard to achieve, or at least, pass-off as authentic.

Riad Laksiba feels centuries old.
Riad Laksiba looks, feels and is... totally authentic…
Beautiful hand carved arches and columns, in sable-de-la-mer and tadelakt, influenced by the Kasbah Mosque and the Saadian Tombs. Solid Cedarwood doors and windows with hand carved Berber motifs. Quiet salon areas outside four of the five en-suite bedrooms to give guests quite individual space to enjoy sumptuous breakfasts, mint tea, discuss the world, keep in touch through the Riad's free wifi or relax and read one of the many books and novels scattered around.

Well appointed, un-fussy, bedrooms with polished cream plaster walls, terracotta floors, ethnic rugs; all enjoying the modern comfort of Air-conditioning and en-suite wet-room, good pressure, showers. All beds have been hand carved specifically for Riad Laksiba, twin beds in each room – pushed together to make doubles when required, with firm mattresses and hand weaved stripy covers in cream, beige and chocolate.

The Splash Pool on the ground floor courtyard offers a respite from the heat of the day and acts as a natural climatisation to the common areas.

Further details outdoors

The south facing roof terrace has sun lounger’s and also an essential, summertime, cold water shower and great “chill out” furnishings for shisha-pipe star gazing in the evenings. During the winter the terrace boasts excellent views of the Mighty snow-capped Atlas Mountains.
The Staff prepare freshly made breakfast; served, to the table, at a time that suits the guest; Freshly squeezed orange juice, pancakes, crepes, strawberry preserve, wild honey, fresh baked bread, natural yogurt, fresh fruit, English tea, coffee or mint tea if you prefer.

Riad Laksiba sits in a small cul-de-sac, Derb Kadi; with a stable opposite housing six beautifully kept horses and two Caleche’s (horse drawn carriages) to serve tourists. Street life in Derb Kadi consists of children playing and locals going about their day to day lives. The street, in itself, offers a fascinating insight into Moroccan life; all neighbours are very welcoming and enjoy interaction with Riad Laksiba and its guests.

Located in the Royal Kasbah district of the Medina (the first Citadel of the Sultans of Morocco) and very easy to find; one would struggle to rival its location. Simon explains: “A Marrakech location choice is always going to be a compromise. If you locate close to the main square (Jemaa el Fna) then it’s constant pulse, especially at night, may well become tiresome. A location within the Souks then you may struggle to find your way within the labyrinth, find it somewhat intimidating after dark and taxis may not be able to drop you to the door. I took all of these considerations on-board when house hunting and buying my house in Marrakesh. The Kasbah quartier was the most expensive, per square meter, but did offer wide streets, good street lighting, easy parking & vehicle access. Moreover as we are surrounded by Royal Palaces, including the current monarchs, Mohammed VI, and Royal Gardens; the level of security in the Kasbah is better than the rest of the Medina and the state investment in the Kasbah’s continual renovation initiatives, currently: Kasbah Mosque & Saadian Tombs area & the public gardens opposite Riad Laksiba’s medina entrance Bab Ksiba totally justified this extra spend. If it gives me confidence then it will do the same for my family, friends and guests”.

Location:
The Kasbah district is the Royal Quartier; the 1st Citadel of the Sultans of Morocco: Behind us the "Royal Agdal Gardens and the Ourika Valley beyond", to the front "The Saadian Tombs" where past Sultans are buried, the Kasbah Mosque then the Jemaa el Fna and world famous Souks; to the side the Palace of Hassan II and the other side the Palace of Mohamed VI (the current King) with the Koutoubia Mosque beyond (the centre of Marrakesh). Thus the streets are cleaner, well illuminated, people politer and the whole area better policed; all of which adds to the great enjoyment of the wandering traveller. The street food in the Kasbah is excellent and the fruit and veg Berber Market in the Kasbah receives troops of Guided visitors and locals alike, from across the Medina of Marrakech, on a daily basis. Indeed we buy our Bread and Oranges from the Berber Market each day.
