The exceptional and atypical atmosphere of this apartment is mainly due both to its layout and the location of the old Renaissance house on top of which the holiday home of the White Stork is built.

Perched atop the old rampart of 1291 - but accessible by a wide and comfortable staircase built to modern standards - this apartment offers a unique charm, romantic and unusual. The roof structure rises to more than 5 meters above the living space which opens to the four cardinal points. A large window bay connects the sitting and dining areas to a covered terrace of 12 m2 facing south, in front of the roofs of the old medieval village of Riquewihr.

Another window of the lounge opens to the east. Beyond the church tower, gables and roofs of the village, you can see the Schoenenbourg vineyards and the nearby village of Zellenberg. On clear days the view extends beyond the plain of Alsace and the river Rhine to the small volcanic hills of Kaiserstuhl Germany (excellent vineyard, just 45 minutes drive from Riquewihr) and to the mountains of the german Black Forest!

On the other side, to the west, the dining area, kitchen and bedroom are overlooking the famous Thieves Tower at the corner of the rampart. The hillside vineyards of the Schoenenbourg hill give way to forests and mountains of the Vosges ...

Finally, to the north, the windows of the bedroom are overlooking the impressive rampart of 1291 and offer exceptional views of the vineyards of Schoenenbourg! At harvest time, you'll take a ringside seat to harvesting the precious grapes, and throughout the year, you can follow the meticulous work of the winemaker.

Getting around

If you fly in for a longer stay we recommend you rent a car. For a short stay you may arrive by train in Colmar and from there take a bus or a taxi. We can arrange a taxi with an English speaking driver. Riquewihr is a very practical base to visit all Alsace, the Vosges mountains, the Black Forest in Germany and nearby Switzerland. We also can arrange electro-bikes for rent.

Our house manager will greet you upon arrival and show you the apartment. She will give you her mobile phone number and will be available for you for any request during your stay (daytime 09:00-11:00 and 15:00-18:30). Upon arrival you will receive a personal file with suggestions and practical info about what to do and what to see in the area.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.
