Description from owner

Description

Oak Cottage is a Deluxe Cottage situated in a quiet woodland setting which overlooks a private lochan.

Oak Cottage has a Gold Grading with Green Tourism and is situated just over 2 miles from the pretty village of Killin. Killin itself is a traditional Highland village and centres on the spectacular Falls of Dochart, here the river tumbles and cascades over the rocks before flowing into Loch Tay. The village sits on the very edge of Stirlingshire's border with Perthshire and benefits from being part of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

Inside you will experience all the comforts of Oak with its log burner, under floor heating throughout and cosy wooden floor. Fully fitted kitchen including electric cooker and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine and tumble drier. This leads to an open plan dining and living area. Oak Cottage has digital Freeview TV, DVD player, CD, radio and a selection of DVD's and books. Oak has WiFi. Furnished in a contemporary modern style and equipped to a high standard with one double bed and one double bed with single bed over. Bathroom with bath and shower over and heated towel rail. Towels and all bed linen are included. Also included are indoor and outdoor drying areas.

The outside private garden area has outdoor furniture, locking bike store and is an ideal place to sit and relax and reflect on the day's activities and watch the wildlife. Parking for 2 cars.

The property would make an ideal base for exploring this part of Scotland. Offering something no matter what your chosen outdoor pursuits are from the extreme water sports at Aberfeldy and Loch Tay to the more relaxed pace of life whilst enjoying a walk through the outstanding local woodlands and forest paths, or perhaps Glen Lyon often referred to as Scotland's longest and loneliest glen. For the more agile perhaps hill walking on one of the local Munros, or mountain biking through the forests at Killin and over the Glen Ogle Viaduct and onwards to Balquidder, the route being a highlight of the National Cycle Network of Scotland. Maps of the local area walks, mountain biking and hills around Oak Cottage can be found inside.

Killin itself is home to an interesting selection of small shops, cafes and restaurants, and the Killin Outdoor Centre and Mountain shop, a popular place for visitors as it has canoes, mountain bikes and walking equipment all for hire. Killin has a fantastic 9 hole golf course, clubs can be hired. For those interested in the historical aspects of the area information can be found in Oak Cottage. The Scottish Crannog Centre at Kenmore on Loch Tay is well worth a visit. A Crannog was a type of ancient loch dwelling found throughout Scotland and Ireland, and the centre has an authentic reconstruction of one, along with many interesting artefacts just 10 miles from Killin.

Fishing is extremely popular in the local area. The River Tay, Scotland's longest river flows through the heart of Perthshire and is renowned as one of the world's best salmon rivers and attracts anglers from all over. In the area there are various well stocked, trout fisheries and hill lochs. A good source of information about fishing in the area is the Fish Tay website, this excellent website is full of information about areas to fish, the permits required can be bought in the local paper shop.

The mountains and moors of Perthshire are abundant with wildlife, the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve being a particular popular place to visit. Owned by the National Trust for Scotland the Reserve situated not far from Killin it is home to a diverse range of wildlife and during the summer months Ranger staff offer a programme of guided walks for visitors of all ages.

“Convenient seclusion”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2021

Oak Cottage is in a lovely, quiet and secluded natural setting. Yet the main road (Crianlarich to Killin, and Lochearnhead) is easily reached down a short private track. It's a great base to explore from, or simply sit on the sofa and watch the many wild birds visit the well positioned feeders. Everything works (a feature not to be under estimated) and almost everything you need, apart from your meals, is to be found in one or other of the cupboards. The "welcome pack" was very, well, welcome! How good to find milk and fruit juice in the fridge, waiting for me when I arrived. Teabags and coffee too, and some shortbread to go with them. The cottage is also well stocked with useful information, including very helpful local items which the owners have taken the trouble to assemble.

Response from the owner It was our second stay at Oak Cottage and we are pleased that the high quality of the accommodation has been fully maintained from the first visit! The house is simply very well equipped, very clean, very well maintained. The location in the middle of nature is of course a dream, almost every day from the window you could watch animals, deer, foxes, birds ... The hard work of the landlords, the welcome gifts with the homemade soap, etc., is also remarkable not even to list everything. The contact with the landlords is also very pleasant. Last but not least, I have to emphasize again how much I like it that the key is deposited so that one is free at the time of arrival. That minimizes the stress of travel considerably! We say thank you very much, it was a wonderful two weeks at Oak Cottage! Thank you SO much for this lovely review. It is kind of you to take the time to make such nice comments. Kind wishes.
