Description

Happy Vale, located in the heart of the Mourne Mountains, has two luxury cottages Bearnagh and Meelbeg separated by a courtyard. A walking equipment/bike store/heated drying room is provided. The cottages have been designed to suit families, walking groups, mountain bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts who want a warm cosy base with mountain walking from the door.

Situated on a hill farm close to Happy Valley in the Mourne Mountains. Happy Vale with a mountain stream running past is a smaller version of Happy Valley.

Bearnagh Cottage has a stunning spacious live in kitchen/sun room with granite fireplace and wood burning stove. Outside, a massive picnic table is perfect for groups eating outdoors while enjoying the sound of the stream babbling past. A car port is provided.

Three bedrooms sleeping up to seven guests:

• Bedroom one – sleeps two, king size bed with en suite bathroom, TV.

• Bedroom two – sleeps three, double bed and a single bed, TV.

• Bedroom three – sleeps two, bunk beds.

Luxury bathroom with separate shower and bath.

Happy Vale is a showcase for environmentally friendly systems: ground source heat pump linked to under floor heating, wood burning stove, solar hot water, solar PV electricity, grey water system from our mountain spring for flushing toilets, external sockets for charging electric vehicles. All these features allow you to enjoy four star luxury while minimising your impact on the environment.

Guests can enjoy the sound of the stream running past or can relax on one of the 4 leather sofas about the log burning stove.

With under floor heating throughout (even in the bike store/drying room) guests can look forward to a warm cosy base at any time of year. Situated just a few miles from Tollymore and Castlewellan forest parks this provides an ideal holiday base.

“Perfect cosy beautiful”

We had a wonderful two night stay. Two adults and 3 kids. Gerry is a fab host (thanks Gerry!). I would highly recommend staying here and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“Ideal Christmas cottage”

Bearnagh Cottage is very spacious, well-equipped and comfortable. We’re a family of six adults, plus a very elderly relative who visited for lunch on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so accessibility was of primary importance. Underfloor heating, the wood-burning stove and four big, comfy sofas made for a relaxed stay. The huge dining table was an asset, as most houses for six have a table to fit just six - if not for covid, other friends and family would have been dropping in. We had very bad weather but the location of the cottage is stunning, with fantastic walking and cycling opportunities all around - we’ll be back to enjoy them. Gerry is an excellent host, so helpful and accommodating. His well-maintained property suited us perfectly.

“A great place to stay”

We had a family break and loved every minute. Gerry (the owner) was most helpful and accommodating, the kitchen and living area was very spacious and charming, the entire cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped and as the weather was glorious we enjoyed eating at the large outdoor picnic table in idyllic surroundings. A happy time and a great place to stay, would thoroughly recommend.
