Relax and unwind in this fabulous single-storey luxury cottage near Scarborough in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Folly Gill stands out with a focus on contemporary attention to detail and luxury living.

Our cottage is situated in the hamlet of Silpho, which is remarkable for its enormous sky and stunning panoramic views across the North York Moors. Yorkshire's Heritage Coast is just a stones throw away (10 minutes by car to Scarborough and 20 minutes to Whitby) and walkers have direct access to some of the most spectacular walking country that Britain has to offer, right from the cottage door. Carefully selected antique and mid-century furniture sits happily with the more contemporary design elements. This is the perfect base for a short break or holiday enjoying the stunning landscapes of the North York Moors and the Heritage Coast or exploring market and fishing towns.

Folly Gill History

Folly Gill forms part of a courtyard conversion of traditional stone farm buildings at North Farm, Silpho; a small hamlet tucked away at the south-eastern corner of the North York Moors National Park. Historically the part of the barn which is now Folly Gill was used variously as a cow byre, stalls and stabling and latterly as a milking parlour and dairy.

The building has been meticulously renovated and converted for use as a luxury romantic holiday escape. Original features such as the stone walls have been restored with lime mortars and original timbers including roof trusses and purlins have been retained wherever possible. The building has been converted using environmentally conscious materials and techniques and is designed to be a comfortable and healthy space with a low carbon footprint. Underfloor-heated polished concrete floors, bespoke kitchen, marble wall tiles, roll top bath and separate rain shower in the luxury bathroom are just a few of the design features which combine to make this a holiday cottage for the 21st Century.

The owners have put their hearts and souls into this unique conversion and their love for contemporary and mid-century design is reflected in every detail. Highlights include the Robert Heritage chairs, the Danish sideboard and the wonderfully comfortable super-king size Auping bed in the enormous bedroom.

Getting around

We live in wonderful walking and cycling country and are on the route for the Tour de Yorkshire. We are in a beautiful, rural setting but the downside is that unless you want to walk or cycle a car is vital.

Interaction with guest

Lorna and Chris live close to Folly Gill and are on hand to provide advice and local tips and recommendations. We provide a warm welcome and like to make sure guests are comfortable. Whilst we are on hand when needed we respect our guests' privacy and will not be forever knocking on the door to ask if everything is okay!

We ask that guests leave our beautiful cottage as they find it. Folly Gill is let for a maximum of two adults. We may accept one infant child (under 12 months) by prior arrangement. Please inform us of any damage or breakages. If appropriate, we will charge the fair and reasonable replacement costs. It is usually just helpful to know that something needs replacing. If the cottage is not left clean and tidy we reserve the right to charge an excess cleaning charge against the damage deposit.
