Debbie and Philip were wonderful too and i would have no hesitation at all in recommending Pilrig House to anyone. The house is stunning the setting peaceful restful and yet close to the town centre and the docks area. An extremely enjoyable break and one we would hope to repeat at some time. |

| On arriving at Pilrig House, we were greeted by Debbie who then showed us around the lovely garden apartment which was spotless. Debbie and Phillip were not intrusive and let us get on with our holiday and when we did see Debbie or Phillip, they asked how our holiday was going and whether we needed anything which was very good of them. In fact, one day, my wife was not well and Debbie even left a few items outside the door to make my wife's night comfortable which we really appreciated. The apartment itself was very nice and quiet. Some days we would sit and just watch the squirrels in the garden from the sitting room (lovely). As for the amenities in the apartment itself, Debbie had catered for every possible need, it had everything. The location was ideal. A very quiet area with just a few minutes walk to the bus stop. All in all, it was a home from home and would not hesitate in staying at Pilrig again. Thank you Debbie and Phillip. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay at Pilrig. |

| Our first visit to Edinburgh was amazing and rich in history. The visit was complimented with our relaxing stay at the Pilrig House. We stayed in the garden room and immediately felt at home. The apartment was clean and inviting and full of amentities (i.e. DVDs, books, complimentary tea and coffee, chocolates and scotch whiskey). The house is located in a park where we were able to enjoy it in comfort with our 9 month old daughter. Easy access to the transit system ensured a seamless trip to downtown Edinburgh and Leith. Debbie and Phillip were extremely helpful with their extensive knowledge of Edinburgh and area. We would definitely stay here again. |

One of the highlights of our first trip to Scotland was discovering Pilrig House.
The accommodations are exquisite and welcoming, as are hosts Philip and
Debbie Martin. Staying at Pilrig House, located in a beautiful park well within
walking distance of the centre of Edinburgh, and close to the sea, gave us the
chance to explore the city from an extraordinary vantage point. Yet quite apart
from the impeccably appointed apartment, the most unforgettable aspect of
our stay was the genuine helpfulness that Philip and Debbie Martin offered.
Their warm welcome is not matched anywhere else.

Internally the property was very well appointed with many personal touches which made us feel very welcome. Debbie and Philip were the perfect hosts, helpful and considerate. We enjoyed sunny weather during our stay and tea in the garden overlooking the park was a joy. The guest membership of the Scottish Malt Whisky Society, provided for your stay was a real bonus and most appreciated.

1) from the friendly but unintrusive greeting to the friendly but unintrusive
farewell, Debbie was the best of hosts - helpful, informative, responsive -
there when you needed her - not there when you wanted privacy ... and just
plain friendly
2) much thought and care has gone in to providing a warm and cozy
ambience, with all the modern conveniences travellers expect, but without
compromising the architectural heritage, integrity, or "homeliness" of the
property
3) location was ideal - three minutes walk to local stores, pubs, and
restaurants - setting is also beautiful, from the space and cover provided by
the well-tended garden, to the outlook from the rooms across the city to
Arthur's Seat
4) best = the house and the host; least = motion sensor on bathroom
extractor fan (but is there a better way?) |

| Our 5 night stay in Edinburgh at Pilrig House was the highlight of our two week vacation in the UK, especially in terms of creature comforts. The pretty Garden Apartment was impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. It was also very, very thoughtfully equipped with practically everything you could need or want, including a bag of ice, a container of milk, cookies, tea, coffee, chocolates and whiskey! The owners go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, though never intrusive. Debbie offered to take me to the store to get cereal, etc. within 5 minutes of my arrival (she was heading there anyway). Phillip drove me to the city centre the next morning (we happened to be leaving at the same time)and gave me a mini-tour of Holyrood Park. For us, big bonuses were the well-stocked bookcase and the specialized notebooks, which included lots of Edinburgh-relevant literature, two helpful videos on Edinburgh and practically every guidebook published on Edinburgh and Scotland, plus maps, brochures, and menus. Debbie's restaurant suggestions included dinner at the Shore, in Leith, which would never have occurred to us, and we ended up eating at wonderful restaurants there twice. Phillip mentioned the village of Duddingston and a exhibit at the Royal College of Surgeons that would not have otherwise occurred to us either. The location is lovely, despite a half-hour walk to the Royal Mile (lots of buses as an alternative). We would definitely stay here again on another trip to Scotland. Deserves its 4 star rating. |

The Pilrig House is an oasis of history, beauty and comfort adjacent to the vibrant city of Edinburgh.
Located on a park just outside of the city?s bustle, our stay was magnificent from the aspect of this property's location, modern day appointments and convenience.
Proprietors Debbie and Philip are keen at ensuring your stay is memorable. They offer and maintain an immaculate property, ensure it is well stocked with amenities and information about their lovely city and country. They make themselves available as much or as little as you require helping you to acclimate to the area quickly, identify your interests and make suggestions and recommendations to make your vacation special. They are invaluable resources.
After busy days of site seeing or shopping the Pilrig House was our home. Make sure you take the time to enjoy it?s offerings and especially watch out for your neighbors the squirrels and foxes as they scamper about the gardens in early morning or at dusk.
Our stay at Pilrig House Garden Apartment gave us the exact experience we were looking for in our Scottish vacation. We had a marvelous time in a wonderful land mainly because of the Pilrig House?s outstanding accommodations and Debbie and Philip's hospitality.

would without a doubt return to Pilrig House- perfect place for
either short stay- even better for extended stay- make yourself
right at home! We can't wait to go back and explore more of the city

We had the best time at Pilrig House and in Edinburgh. We appreciate the Martin's hospitality and the attention that was put into the smallest details to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.
We loved the tour that Deb's husband gave us as we saw many things you would never see on a regular tour, including some spectacular estate gardens!
At Deb's encouragement, we got to know the bus system and really had a great oppotunity to rug shoulders with true Scotsman!
She left us a delicious fruit basket and delicious candy that were a plus in the morning and at the end of the day.
We were close to a convenience store when we wanted a quick ice cream.
The view into the park was sweet - ask Deb how she met her husband there. The garden that is shared with some of the owners is a delightful place to sit and read on a sunny day.
we had a wonderful time, much to the credit of our host and hostess at Pilrig House. Thank you so much! |

If you want to truly experience Scottish hospitality stay at Pilrig House. My Aunt and I stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment looking out over the park and it was more than we expected and had everything we needed. It's much roomier than any hotel, it's quiet in a very peaceful setting, very clean, and luxuriously furnished. We loved the heated towels in the bathroom. Pilrig is even better than the pictures you see on the rental websites which is hard to believe.
The ambiance of the home and its setting, and the service from the Martins is 5 star. Clearly every attention to detail is very important to them. There were lots of personal touches that we appreciated. For example, our kitchen was stocked with staples we would need for our first meal (milk, toast). There was a fresh fruit bowl on the dining table and chocolates for our enjoyment. We so looked forward to the decanter of Scotch each evening. Our apartment had CDs, videos, books and maps for our enjoyment and use.
The Martins were available to drive us to the grocery and give us a highlight tour of the city. They are so kind and welcoming but not intrusive. Their knowledge of the history of the area was informative and entertaining. They helped us prioritize the things we wanted to see during our stay in Edinburgh so we made the best use of our time.
We arrived at Pilrig by foot from the train station which is an interesting and effortless half hour walk. The buses were easy to use and very convenient to Pilrig too.
When my Aunt and I reminisce about our trip we both comment that Pilrig was the best place we have ever stayed and we vow to return on our next UK adventure.
Don't pass up an opportunity to stay at Pilrig House. |

We found the location to be perfect: we walked across the park (backyard!) to the bus stop and easily got to all the places we wanted to visit, we walked down to the shore in the Leith District, the other direction, to some wonderful pubs and restaurants, and we enjoyed just 'staying home'.
