The nitgh life is good you wouldn't have to leave the royal mile which is where the apartment is situated saves on taxis. There is plenty of bars and loads of places to eat. The apartment itself is lovely and big. The bed is so comfortable you wouldn't want to get out of it. I really enjoyed my stay and will be back next year. |

From beginning to end, renting the St. Giles on the Royal MIle was a wonderful
experience. Glen was very helpful in arranging the visit and Dave was helpful
also as our contact person when we arrived and very accommodating when we
had an early departure. The home was perfect for my husband and me as we
like to do some of our own cooking. The location and view from the apartment
were perfect and added to our great memories of a wonderful visit in
Edinburgh. In fact, everything was as it was described in the information that
we received. The steps leading up to the apartment were many, but we
enjoyed the good exercise. We traveled thousands of miles to visit Edinburgh
and it was so gratifying to see the apartment as it was pictured and described.
Thank you to all for an unforgettable visit to Edinburgh. |

| Staying right on the Royal Mile in this self-catering flat was one of our best decisions of the trip. The location just can't be beat. You're literally a minute walk up to Edinburgh Castle and right in the heart of everything else. The flat itself was lovely - small, but more than adequate for two people. The views from the living room were beautiful and we loved coming "home" after walking all day. Waking up to fresh coffe (complimentary) and standing in the windows as the sun rose looking out on the Royal Mile was just perfect. If there had to be a negative, it would be all the stairs... but you can't have great views and such a brilliant location without having to use the stairs?! (Granted, we were also carrying 60lb. rucksacks on our backs up the three flights, so we weren't excited about them.) Both gentlemen who helped us "check in / out" were lovely to deal with and gave good restaurant recommendations. We're totally pleased with our experience at this location and with FlipKey and look forward to using their services again. |

This apartment has it all. It's centrally located and you can watch the festivities from the livingroom windows without having to mingle with the throngs, if you don't want to.
The bedroom is cozy, and the kitchen functional, also with a great view.
The four flights of stairs kept me fit.
Don't expect peace and quiet, but it's a great location not only inspite of the noise but because of it. |

Warm, helpful and efficient service. Great location, walked everywhere, lovely light and city views from 3rd floor, not noisy even with Fringe events outside. Clean, basic slightly worn unpretentious furnishings and decor created a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Crisp white sheets and plentiful towels.
Common stairwell peeling paint and grimy, no elevator, good for the thighs though! Area at head of bed(old fireplace)dirty, used for storing paint cans, and 3rd door of cupboard revealed filthy heater. |

The bathroom shower was okay after we figured out how it worked with the electric heater. The best part was the living room view from the 3rd floor overlooking old St. Giles Cathedral and the Royal Mile. We would not recommend it for persons with walking problems or handicaps since the only way to reach the unit is to climb 3 flights of stairs (a total of 66 steps). |

The location is perfect and we definitely intend booking the property again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. As mentioned in some other reviews, the stairs accessing the flat wouldn't be suitable for all, but hey, you wouldn't get the terrific views if you weren't that high up!! |

We (two adults) had a fabulous three nights at 6 St. Giles. The living
room windows are huge, filling the main room with light, and we
were blown away by the view of St. Giles Cathedral right outside.
Look up the street the other way and there's Edinburgh Castle.
You can't get much more central than this. The location was perfect
for exploring the Royal Mile as well as Princes Street and the
surrounding areas.
It was nice to have a kitchen and, although it took a little figuring
out, the washing machine did a good load of laundry for us. The
shower was nice and hot, the bed comfortable. We didn't have any
noise issues. Not that we watched a lot of television, but cable
reception was a little spotty at times.
The only way to get such a view is to climb quite a few stairs, so if
you are not easily mobile, you might want to find something closer
to the ground. |

How lovely to have the faint sound of bagpipes during various times of the day from the street corner. With St. Giles just across the street, it made our visit to such a wonderful and historical city of Edinburgh even more meaningful. If you like to experience something other than the hotel routine, give this a try. The fellow who helped us with our luggage and during the stay could not have been more gracious! Travelling up on the train we were apprehensive about relying on hooking up with a stranger on the street to get our keys. No need to worry, all went well and we very soon took charge of our little apartment. I could hardly tear myself away from the view of St Giles and the Castle approach, imagining all the famous events that had happened there. We ate all our meals overlooking that view and had a wonderful time feeling part of the city in a way we haven't had in an hotel or a modern apartment block.
You need to be prepared for the physical challenge of climbing the stairs to the third floor. They proved a fine warm-up for the steep slopes around the Royal Mile and the walk to Arthur's Seat.
We have since recommended the apartment and the firm to other friends and family - they were all very happy. |

We have stayed in a number of different self-catering apartments in Edinburgh and this is definitely the best one we have stayed in and was very good value compared to others in similar location we had looked at before booking. We had a thoroughly enjoyable 5 night stay. The apartment is really well located for the railway station, restaurants, pubs, tourist attractions, which are all walkable. Our favoutite place to eat was a wine bar on Cockburn St. The lovely big windows in the large lounge let in lots of light and sun and you can watch the world go by if you don't fancy going out. Although the non-stop piper on the nearby corner can get a bit much if you have the windows open! Walking up and down the 3 flight of stairs can be viewed as good exercise - who needs a lift, eh?!! The bedroom is a good size and the double bed is very comfortable. However, don't think the apartment would really be suitable for 4 people as using the sofa bed would limit your use of the lounge unless you were all happy to go to bed at the same time. The position of the bathroom position, with borrowed light from the kitchen is a bit odd, but the bathroom itself with over-bath shower is fine.
We were greeted by a friendly and helpful person. All in all a really good apartment for couples. We would highly recommend it and would certainly book it again. |

This flat is very well presented throughout. It has fantastic, huge, southfacing windows on 2 walls of the sitting room, looking out onto The Royal Mile, although you are 3 storeys up, so if you sit down you get blue sky and roof tops. The High Kirk is directly opposite and nicely lit at night. Being 70 steps up from the street didn't bother me, and the height meant less noise from the street, although I could still hear the bagpiper clearly as he played from 5-7pm every night just below.
The location is perfect - mostly pedestrianised so little traffic noise. 5 minutes walk from the castle and Princes Street, and 15 minutes from Holyrood Palace and thence into what feels like countryside with the Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat.
The flat is well-maintained and I couldn't hear the neighbours. There is a washing machine that also tumble-dries your clothes. All the rooms are well-proportioned with high ceilings and period features.
If you don't mind bag pipes and lots of steps this is definitely the place for you. Just bring a rucksack to get your shopping home from the supermarket! |

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the apartment on St Giles. Couldn't have asked for a better location - we walked to everything we wanted to see (castle, Holyrood Park, shopping). We didn't actually spend much time in the apartment itself, but its location proved great for a quick bathroom break or to drop off purchases before continuing on to see more sites. The cons to the apartment were:
1) Arranging for key pick-up. I tried to make arrangements with our contact a week in advance, but was told that I needed to call him on the day of check-in, approximately one-hour before our arrival - he would not be able to arrange a meeting time before this. We were arriving in Edinburgh by rental car and called, as instructed, 1 hour before our estimated arrival. We were told that we would either need to arrive at the apartment in no more than an hour or would have to wait until much later in the afternoon to receive the key. Being as we needed to return our rental car and would not have any where else to store our luggage, this caused our final hour of driving into Edinburgh to be quite rushed and stressed. In the end, we arrived in time, but it would have been nice to know what time we needed to arrive a little earlier - it would have been no problem for us to plan an earlier departure for Edinburgh had we known.
2) We were left one roll of toilet paper meant to last 3 people for 3 days - it would have been nice to have a back-up roll.
3) Convertible sofa-bed in the living room was horribly uncomfortable. You should think twice if you are planning to use this.
4) The weekend night-life made for very noisy nights. We're heavy sleepers, so this didn't bother us much, but do consider that this apartment's extremely desirable location means you'll hear all of the bar patrons late into the night. |

Manager Response: May 31, 2009 |
| Entry to apartments is from 14:00 onwards simply to allow preparation time between previous guests departing at 10 am. If a guest requests early access, as was the case in this situation, Dave Stewart the person responsible for "meet and greets" will not actually know if this is a possible scenario until that actual day but will always endeavour to make it happen. In this situation guests are asked to still follow the instruction in the formal confirmation to telephone 1 hour prior to actual arrival (as there can be travel disruptions this prevents guests and Dave Stewart having to wait around unnecessarily at apartments) and then he will be in an excellent position to say if early entry can be obtained. When this guest telephoned he informed them early entry was possible but if they could not make it within the next hour they would have to wait until he had done another "meet and greet" elsewhere. As it turned they did make it and get earlier access to the apartment than the standard 14:00. Perhaps there was some confusion over the situation with early access ? I totally agree that sofa beds are no substitute for a real bed and I would always suggest to potential guests to consider two bedroom apartments before a 1 bedroom + sofa bed, if extra sleeping arrangements are required. St Giles is a very central city apartment and is equipped with secondary glazing in the lounge and bedroom to reduce noise pollution to nearly zero, perhaps one of the secondary glazing units had been inadvertently left open during the night ? Anyway glad to read these were minor irritations and overall the guest had a wonderful stay and I hope to see them back one day. |

Walking is very much recommended to really get to feel like you're part of the city and the people. It's been two years and I still see it all so vividly and have the greatest memories. There were only two tiny drawbacks: the apartment is on the third floor (no elevator), and the sofa needed to be replaced because it had no support in the cushions, but the beauty of the historic building, the cleanliness of the apartment, the view from the apartment, and the location all made it worth the exercise provided by the three flights of stairs. And the contact person and owner were absolutely wonderful to work with through the entire process, answering dozens of questions, understanding when our luggage didn't arrive at the airport and we had no idea what to do so we called them. I wish all our international trips were this wonderful and perfect. We hope to go back sometime, and this is where I'll want to stay. Highly recommended. |

Fantasic! A thoroughly enjoyable w/end in a wet and windy Edinburgh.
Found the accommodation, met by Dave who led us up a number of steps to our flat. Views out over the Royal Mile, with home comforts thrown in!
We had a brilliant time, busy days then back to the comfort of the flat before out again. Great little
coffee shop at the foot of the stairs serving lovely breakfasts.
Can't recommend Edinburgh highly enough for a w/end break and ditto for our accommodation. |

We have rented many vacation apartments in Europe, and this was one of the best. It was well equipped, and very comfortable. The location is in the middle of everything you want to see, and it is fun to people watch from the view in the apartment.
The stairs is the one downside. While they didn't ruin our stay, and gave us some good exercise, they did surprise us a little. The Apartment was advertised as a 3th floor apartment. Since we are familar with Europe, we knew this was an American 4th floor, and there would be 3 flights of stairs. Not all people know this however. Also, since the ceilings are high, each flight was more like 1and 1/2 flights. |
