Gas! Gas! Gas! |

Positive - A beautiful location, a charming home and chalet, great hot tub and deck, BBQ and so on. We phoned up on an impulse driving up from San Digo, explained our requirements and price points and the agent was very helpful to place us in a great location which overall we loved.
Lots of towels, blankets and comfy sofas to relax on after a long drive / hike / bike trail.
Negative - There was a very powerful smell of gas coming from the cooker which even though we checked all pilot lights were on, still made us very wary of switching on the lights (not all the light bulbs were working either, a very simple thing to check when service takes place on check out of previous guests). Almost overpowering stench of gas in the morning so we had the windows open all the time, great in Summer, bad in winter.
The bed needs service...

| I went to this cabin to get away, and it is isolated as i had hoped. It is in a nice location and was perfectly comfortable in terms of furniture and bedding. There are very few lights in the place so reading at night is virtually inmpossible without moving the lights around. The big downside for me was that I found the cabin in need of basic maintenance (things such as most of the lights don't work I think because the bulbs seem to be out, the locks on the front door stick badly and i needed to call to have them opened, the gas stove leaks leaving a smell of gas in the unit so you have to leave all the windows open, many of the dishes were dirty (probably a result of having people do their own), and some of the lights on the porch are out, the vertical blinds no longer open and close and turn correctly. All of these things are easily corrected and would make a weekend stay for someone who does not want to go buy light bulbs that much more pleasant. I certainly was not interested in washing all the dishes just to make sure the ones I needed were clean. Maybe it is because of the usual clientele, but I found all the attention being put on parking restrictions, room occupancy restrictions, taking out your own trash, doing your own dishes and all the fines attendant thereto to be irritating. I wish as much attention were paid to making sure the lights work and the dishes are clean. As a result of the above, I spent very little time there when i would have stayed in the entire time. |

| Big Bear Vacations is one af few companies in Big Bear that boast a 24 hour maintenance staff to respond to issues such as lights door lock etc. Extra light bulbs are stocked under the kitchen sink for guest convenience. Older gas stoves utilize a pilot system this does leave a slight gas odor behind, however, there is no issues with gas leakage. Parking occupancy, trash etc. are part of the City of Big Bear Lake ordinances that regulate the large economy of vacation rentals and weekend tourism. All of these issues are out side of Big Bear Vacations control. |

Big Bear Vacation Check-In was quick and helpful. We were able to get our keys in a timely fashion, received helpful information, and found the cabin easily. The house was adequate, a little outdated, but had most of the essentials. (It was missing a can opener, wine glasses, matches, and kitchen towels/potholders)
The cabin is in a beautiful neighborhood within a short walk to the lake. My husband and I enjoyed walking our dog through the neighborhood in the evenings. The backyard was great for our large dog to play in without worry of her escaping (the fencing was great). The back patio was nice for relaxing, grilling, and taking a dip in the Hot Tub. |

| At least once a year, I try to get away to Big Bear to enjoy some solitude in the beauty of the forest where I can read by a toasty fire and relax in a hot tub - and this little treasure had it all! Even my pups were welcome and they really enjoyed the expansive yard, filled with all kinds of interesting things to smell & even a playful squirrel. The location was perfect - only minutes away from the village, where I love to shop, eat, and take in a movie. And in addition to all of that, I also found the office staff to be extremely friendly, accommodating, responsive and just all around helpful. I plan to return to this specific cabin again and again ? it was just wonderful and met all my needs. P.S. I had two small hick-ups during my stay , one with a light that went out and the other with a flu that decided to close on it?s own - and both times a handy-man was at my doorstep within minutes to remedy the situation! I highly recommend Big Bear vacations and this particular little slice of heaven. |

Nice Cabin But Needs Some Repair |
Reviewed by: Farah Khalid from Sherman Oaks, CA
Reviewed on: 05/21/2009 for their stay in 05/2009

This cabin was really great except for some major issues that could
easily be fixed. The living room area was huge as was the deck and
back yard. I brought my dog up with me to enjoy the back yard but
we found out that the fence was broken, and obviously so. It
looked like someone had backed into it and then taken off, leaving
a big gap where my dog could escape out of. It also looked like
someone had tried a half-assed repair when what is really needed
is a new fence.
There were three of us who stayed here and unfortunately, the
"sofabed" is hardly something that could be used. Besides the fact
that is was broken-- my friend sat on it and fell through, the
mattress felt more like a bed of nails than anything else. My poor
friend opted for sleeping on the couch--- which is not what we
rented a 3 occupancy cabin for.
The management was very nice and told us that if we had
complained they would have upgraded us to another cabin. I had
two issues with this-- 1) We arrived at 11pm, it was too dark to see
the fence, and by the time we realized the sofa bed situation, it was
1am and we had already unpacked all our food--- we only had one
full day there so we didn't want to spend that day repacking our
food and moving to another cabin.
2) As a rental company, they need to make sure the cabin is in
working order before renting it. The gate is clearly visible from the
street and should have been fixed before renting out to someone.
Our other issue was there was no hot water in the shower-- it was
luke warm. But, we were in a cabin so we just dealt with it and
made the best of what we had.
Basically, a great cabin IF they fix the gate, get a NEW sofa bed, and
fix the hot water in the shower. Otherwise, prepare to rough it. |

Great cabin and wonderful neighborhood. We got lucky and happened to be there for one of the biggest snowstorms of the year! It made for a very romantic Valentine?s day weekend and we can?t wait to return. Just keep in mind a couple of important facts. First you are going to the mountains, and second you are going to the mountains! So be prepared! I read so many reviews that bickered about, slopes, ice & cold weather, hello? You are not going to the St Regis.
Now that I am done ranting, I have to say this cabin was worth every penny. We were located barely a block to the lake. The cabin was warm (bring firewood), cozy and comfortable. Also the proximity to town was great. This cabin has a big backyard and its very dog friendly. Our 2 labs loved every second. The spa hit the spot after a long day of playing in the snow. FYI someone complained in an earlier thread that the spa cover was heavy and covered with snow, again! You are in the mountains so you will have to work a little, but the little effort required is well worth it. FYI In the winter make sure to bring extra blankets and pillows just for extra comfort. Bottom line for the price this place is well worth it and we will definitely return again.
If you are coming from LA or OC in the winter be sure to take the back way via lucernceville 15N to 18. It adds about 45 minutes of distance but subtracts hours of sitting on the 330/18. We left OC on Friday night at 4pm and arrived in big bear @7:30pm. While I was checking in I heard people stating 5-6 hours to drive up the front, in fact I heard the receptionist state to someone ?Well you better turn around and go the back way? as the 330/18 has closed due to the storm. The good part is its only about 30 mintues of mountain driving the rest is on a flat freeway in the desert. Don?t forget your chains?.Drive Slow and for the love of god turn on your headlights on mountain roads in the daytime.

| This is a really nice cabin. We loved the hot tub and the wood burning stove was a nice touch. The only problem we had was that the sofa bed was broken so we used the sofa bed's mattress on the floor, which was extremely uncomfortable (springs in the back). If you plan on sleeping more than one couple bring an air mattress! The stove in the kitchen has problems lighting too but it you turn the burner up all the way and strike a match you're good to go. |

The jacuzzi was a real treat even on a cold winter's night. The kitchen was very functional for the size. We had fun cooking for Thanksgiving and BBQ-ing on the deck! This house was a joke.
Virtually no dishes or silverware in house. We were there in middle of snowstorm and had to wait hours for someone to come and bring us glasses/silverware.
Kitchen very ill equipped. If you're going to stay at this place, bring everything you need in the kitchen, because this place had virtually nothing.
Rented movies but couldn't watch them because DVD player didn't work.
Most of the heaters in the house didn't work.
There are multiple leaks in walls and roof. In the middle of the night, in the upstairs bedroom, I had snow falling on my head.
Unbelievable!!!
Had a great Jacuzzi, but lid was broken and weighed a ton!!! It was a lot of fun, standing up in spa, dripping wet in a driving snow storm w/2 other guys trying to haul the lid up from behind the spa, where it falls when you open it.
Lucky one of didn't wrench our backs.
The main office is a joke. Told them I would not make reservation w/o guarantee of early check-in, late check-out. When I got there, they told me they never do that. Had to have major discussion w/front desk and mgr in order to resolve the issue.
Customer service sucks at this place.
This place is a disaster. I would never rent anything from them ever again.
NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
