Vacation Rental Description
In 1912 Charles R. Crane, of Chicago and Woods Hole, asked the preeminent Madison Wisconsin architectural firm of Purcell, Feick & Elmslie to build for his daughter and son-in-law a summer bungalow on a piece of his Woods Hole property known as Juniper Point. Purcell took the notes of his meeting with Crane to his partner George Grant Elmslie who drew up designs for three houses. Crane, to his credit, chose the boldest of the three with the proviso that the house be made ready for a family wedding to be held six months hence. On the last day of September 1912, according to William Gray Purcell’s diary, “the Bradley’s walked up to a home that looked as if it had always stood on the site, and found within a complete establishment ready to live in to the last detail”. Today it is considered one of the great homes of the United States, and the finest still existing residential work of Purcell & Elmslie. The Airplane House. The Owner Says ... "The home is occasionally leased during the spring summer and fall for personal retreats, family vacations, seminars and small scientific or other gatherings. "
