Vacation Rental Description
Enjoy being right in the middle of the forest with babbling brooks, nature trails, ponds, wooden playgrounds for the kids, beautiful night skies, basketball, hiking, fishing, tennis, or just some ice cream from the local General Store. At Fox Den, there is plenty of room to sleep at least 6 adults and, of course, pets are always welcome. There is also enough to keep everyone in the house happily busy throughout your stay. Guests can enjoy a cup of tea in the gazebo overlooking Wolf Laurel and the surrounding mountains, and cook on the charcoal grill on the large porch. Inside, enjoy one of our many movies on DVD, video, or on cable TV, roast marshmallows and make 'smores in the oversized stone fireplace, out-bluff your friends with our full poker set or throw some darts on our professional board, play one of many board games or try one of 20 games on the Nintendo game console. Keep the kids busy with our kid-sized game table, which easily converts from a foosball table to a mini pool table (with backgammon, checkers, and chess capabilities as well). Outside, keep an eye out for deer that frequent the woods, hike to the top of Big Bald Mountain to get one of the most spectacular views on the east coast, or hike the private Nature Trail or even the Appalachian Trail just up the hill. The kids can go exploring down the many mountain creeks or play on the playground made from real logs, and the entire group can enjoy taking a dip in the heated pool May-Aug. Resort amenities vary based on the season and weather. Fox Den might offer enough activities to keep you busy, but guests can easily travel into Asheville for a change of scene and to check out the music and local shops. Or contact the local adventure company for guided mountain biking, river rafting, and horseback riding trips. While visiting Fox Den, stargaze at a sky you can't even imagine a“ and enjoy a rustic mountain feel while not exactly roughing it. Four-wheel drive is recommended during inclement weather. Hiking on Site: 1) 1.3 miles up the mountain (on Wolf Laurel Rd) is the entrance to the well maintained 2 mile Nature Trail. This eventually hooks up with the Appalachain Trail. 2) If you take Wolf Laurel Rd all the way to the top then left on Big Bald Rd, that takes you (on dirt roads) to the highest point (and best views) in the area. The Appalachian Trail also runs right across the top of Big Bald Mountain. The rental rate entitles guests to one free admission per paid night at the following local attractions: Rock 'n' Water whitewater rafting, Lake Lure Tours, Golf at Reems Creek, Asheville Historic Trolley Tours, and Asheville's Fun Depot

We spent three relaxing days at Fox Den in early August 2009. The home was
clean and ready when we arrived and the directions for getting there were
clear and easy to follow. Fox Den is nestled up in the tall pines which was a
welcome relief from the hot Texas summer. The four of us were very
comfortable with Fox Den's rustic furnishings - my daughter especially
enjoyed the bed in the loft and the dartboard! We didn't get a chance to try
the Wolfe Laurel pool - we spent our limited time in Asheville and on the
nearby Appalachian Trail - but it looked inviting; perhaps if it had been open
past 7pm we could have enjoyed a quick dip. |

Overall, we had a great weekend at Fox Den. The house has a beautiful porch, comfortable furniture, a full kitchen and all the appliances you'd need.
Tips for a successful visit:
1) Drivers of sedans or other small passenger cars -- be advised that the driveway has a steep grade and may scratch or dent trim. The bumper of our Matrix was a casualty, no matter how slow or carefully we descended.
2) Fox Den is far from most restaurants. The general store is your only option, so prepare in advance to cook in or eat while in Asheville or other. |

Maybe good for dog owners |

The area outside of the house was beautiful, however, the house smelled like dogs. I guess I should have expected that knowing it was "pet friendly." Not much sunlight coming in so it was a little dark & dreary, and cold.
We also did not appreciate a phone call at 8 or 9am (the first morning we were there) from the property manager telling us a dryer repair man needed to come out to fix the dryer that day. Ugh, not what we wanted to deal with after arriving late the night before (and hoping to sleep in). |

We really loved the home and its location. Very comfortable and cozy--a
FANTASTIC place for our two 10 year olds--they loved the loft. computer, tv
and games (perfect after a long day of sightseeing or hiking)! Nice pond down
the drive and close to great hiking, although we couldn't seem to find where
the picture with the vista view was taken... we will definitely be back very
soon! |

It had all the comforts of home and none of the headaches. The location was centralized for us to get all the sightseeing in that we wanted to do. | We had a wonderful stay in Fox Den Cabin. We brought a Christmas Tree, baked cookies, roasted a turkey, and enjoyed the fire. We were fortunate enough to get a dusting of snow the day after Christmas. The view was breathtaking. We enjoyed, snow tubing, visits to Ashville, and dinner at the Wolf Laurel Ski Lodge while we were there. Deer crossed in front of our cabin just about every morning. All in all, it was a very scenic and relaxing vacation. |

| We are the proud owners of the Fox Den Cabin. I think the reason we get such a great response from our guests is that we use the cabin ourselves throughout the year on vacation just like our guests! And just like our guests, we want a clean, safe, fun place where Mom and Dad can relax, the kids can play inside and out, and Rover can mark his territory. Ha! Every time we go, we enjoy the same things that our guests can: the great hikes, 'smores by the fireplace, the great views, and some solace in the quiet woods! And even though I've been to the local General Store a hundred times, I always look forward to going back! |
