Vacation Rental Description
If you are looking for a weekend getaway, or a soul-refreshing trip to the Asheville, NC area, this is the spot for you! Located just 20 minutes from downtown Asheville, the cabin is situated on more than three very private and serene acres. The front 'yard' is the Ivy River, a great swimming hole and home to wildlife such as heron, beaver, river otter, and soft shell turtle. The forest is a naturalist's dream with pitcher plant, trillium, hepatica, and pipsissewa to name only a few! Across the river is a rock cliff which is home to rhododendron and mountain laurel. And the night sky lights up with stars as there is no light pollution! Sitting on the bend of the river, Rocky River Cabin is cozy and private with no viewable neighbors. Get warm in front of the woodstove, or listen to the music of the river from the deck or interior. There is even a sandy beach area by the water which will delight younger visitors! If you do find that you'd like to venture out, the best of the Blue Ridge Mountains is only minutes away. Everything from mining for gems, to hiking, to festivals, and the Appalachian Trail can be realized within minutes.

The description of the cabinon the website does not honestly reflect the conditions found at the cabin.
On the surface the cabin appeared to be clean, but overall the cleaning staff missed the mark. The cabin would best be described as a little rundown. The linens offered were old and threadbare. No soap in the shower and very limited kitchen cookware. We had no firewood, but staff was able to provide the wood the next day. The website (at the time of my reservation) stated local channels only. When we arrived there was no TV service. Also there is no telephone service. Making an emergency call cannot be done. Cell service is only available halfway back to the main road. The road in is steep and gravel only. These are items that should be disclosed on the website. Unfortunately the great river view did not make up for the lack of amenities in the cabin. We will not be renting again. |

We rented Rocky River around Christmas, '07 and called Carolina Mornings first thing when we planned to return to the area, this time staying two weeks in summer. A mile off the paved road, down a steep hill, nestled near a small creek, this one-bedroom (plus a loft) offers an isolated cabin in the woods, 16 miles from downtown Asheville. The tiny kitchen is well appointed (for a get away cabin). The outdoor charcoal grill on the deck was also great for entertaining guests. The air conditioner was welcome but unnecessary during our visit.
This comfortable cabin is rustic but neat, clean and a home away from home for us and two large dogs who romped in the creek, sunned on the deck and enjoyed the trip as much as we did. |
