Guest Reviews for Dutton-Waller Cottage c 1938

Fabulous time at Dutton-Waller
We could not have been more pleased. We felt as though we were staying at a friends home, not at a rental house. Every amenity you can imagine and very neat and clean. We loved all the beautiful decorations and never wanted to leave. Plenty of nice places to eat within walking and biking distance. Had breakfast almost every morning at The Breakfast Club and dinners at A.J.'s. Both excellent. Will return next fall if at all possible. Even though it was October we had 2 days nice enough to swim. How to make the summer last through October.
The cottage was worth the trip all by itself. Lovely but not too formal, with
everything I could wish for to make my stay relaxing and comfortable. The
sleeping porch is a miracle of soothing calm. I never wanted to leave.
However, I did go out every day because the weather was perfect, hot,
humid Georgia weather - just like summer, really, and the beach was easy
to get to on my rented bike. I didn't even get into my car for 5 days.
Swimming every day.
Everyone at Mermaid Cottages was friendly, helpful, and professional. I felt
completely at ease asking questions. I will definitely be returning and
wouldn't even think of calling anyone else to help with my next stay on
Tybee.
What I liked the best: the sleeping porch.
What I liked the least: the downstairs bedroom was a little musty. I never
turned on the AC in that room and I'm sure it would have cleared it up right
away.

Perfect Stay at Dutton-Waller!
Dutton-Waller was the perfect place for our Labor Day week celebration. You will want for nothing when you arrive. I think the cottage is one of the most beautiful on the whole island. I really loved the downstairs bedroom. My husband and I felt more like we had the house to ourselves when we were down there. I'll just warn you that the downstairs bathroom does not have A/C, and it did get quite hot, but since we showered early each day it wasn't an issue. (Obviously this isn't a problem except in the summer.) The entire cottage is homey and comfortable. The porches are wonderful! We cooked a lot of meals at "home", and everything we needed was provided in the kitchen. It was very relaxing to sit out back on the screened in porch and just enjoy. If you like to walk, getting to the main beach is only about 5 blocks away. There is a great, quiet, unused beach on the back river about 3 blocks from the house. You can watch the kayakers back there too. We ate a few times at AJ's, which is just down the street from the cottage. Very close! Great at sunset. We rented bikes for a few days, which was SO nice. They delivered and picked up for us, which was convenient. The first couple of days we went were considered high season/holiday, and Tybee was extremely crowded. On day 3 EVERYONE disappeared and the island/beach was ours. They even had water bowls filled and waiting for our dogs when we arrived. They really enjoyed the fenced in yard. There is also a gate upstairs so that you can keep them from going downstairs. That made me feel much more relaxed about taking them. We walked/drove by a bunch of other rental properties and NONE of them was nicer than Dutton-Waller. Even the other Mermaid Cottages didn't seem to compare... at least from the outside. :) We'll be back soon. Thanks Mermaids!

Nice location to explore Tybee & Savannah
I rented the Dutton-Waller Cottage for a week in early May. It is a bungalo with many of its original features still in tact. I enjoyed the quiet of th neighborhood and walking access to the town and beach. It was just what I was looking for. The set up had everything we needed for the week. Air conditioning was appreciated as it did get warm a few days! More...
