| I loved everything about the Enlisted Men's Mess Hall. Mermaid Cottages are so charming and still reasonably priced. I liked the quiet location of the Mess Hall, the large screened in porch, the barbecue grill and supplies, even beach chairs and a beach umbrella by the door! It felt just like home - no, it was much better. Thank You!!! |

| This was our second stay with the Mermaid Cottages, and at the Mess Hall! We love this cottage and feel like we are coming home every time we return. Our last trip was our honeymoon, and this trip was a family one with my grandmother. We always feel so welcomed by Diane and the rest of the Mermaid staff! They always make our trip a wonderful experience with their suggestions about local places to eat, things to see, and places to go! This trip was no different, and we cannot wait to return to make more Mermaid memories on Tybee! |

My husband and I stayed here in July; I love anything old and "antique-y" so this was perfect. High ceilings, wide painted porch, picket fence - you get the idea... The kitchen area and appliances are wonderfully new, though, as was the router for wireless internet access (although, I'm pleased to say we didn't use it). If you have a lot to carry, driving or biking to the beach would be easier than walking, but for the hearty a walk is feasible. We liked that we were away from all the shops. Close enough in a car, if that's your thing. We chose not to go into Savannah, but other friends did several times - about a 25 minute drive.
We ate in most of the time, but did try Sundae Cafe for lunch on the recommendation of one of the shop keepers. Loved it! We wish we'd had dinner there, too.
It was a restful week for us.

We have stayed in beach and vacation houses from Maine to Florida (and in
Europe), and the Enlisted Men's Mess Hall on Tybee Island will always rank
among the very, very best. The house itself, is so charming and welcoming,
full of warm touches that make for a comfortable, yet completely free-
spirited and casual atmosphere. There are breezy curtains and cozy quilts,
thick towels and pretty dishes, bright, spacious rooms, a little yard, and a
wrap-around screened porch where I could have rocked away another few
months of happy hours reading and bird-watching. The house was very
clean, with excellent AC and ceiling fans everywhere keep things cool; all
appliances, TVs, lighting, washer and dryer, etc. worked just fine. The
location of the Mess Hall is ideal--in a quiet, residential neighborhood, a
short walk to a wide beach (or very short drive, with no trouble parking, if a
lot of beach gear is involved) down peaceful roads.
Perhaps the very best thing about the Mess Hall, though, is that is is part of
Diane Kaufman's Mermaid Cottages. Diane is, simply, an outstanding
hostess/businesswoman. Every correspondence and phone call was
answered promptly, with useful information, and with the utmost
friendliness. Diane's business is truly customer-oriented--this you can tell
from the care she has put into her Tybee houses and from the attention she
gives to her renters. Again, we are experienced travelers who encounter all
kinds of people in the hospitality industry, many of them as conscientious
and personable as we all strive to be in our professional lives, but few as
genuinely warm, hospitable, and engaged as Diane.
We would not hesitate for a moment to rent any of the Mermaid Cottages;
in fact, we hope it won't be too long before we are once again on a comfy
couch or porch or wicker rocking chair in one of these superb homes.

We enjoyed our Tybee vacation, managing to avoid Ms. Cyrus and the movie makers. We did enjoy riding bikes past the church they were building for the movie. Fun to see the other Mermaid Cottages as we rode around the Island, too. The pace was slow, and the beach was perfect. We meant to spend a day in Savannah, but we never made it! Next time...
We recommend walking down to The Sugar Shack (easy 5 minute walk)for a coffee to go and walking on the beach early in the morning. Easy to walk all the way to the South Beach area and back "home", with fishermen and runners/walkers greeting us. Fun to watch the big ships coming in to Savannah and to see dolphins every day! We had one rainy morning, so we made a pot of coffee and sat on the screened-in porch, ceiling fan running, and read books. Heaven.
I really liked turning my 2 teenage girls loose to walk to the beach (they packed a lunch every day), ride bikes all over, and do a little shopping "downtown". Exploring the Fort was fun. The North Beach location was perfect for us.
The lay out of the cottage was excellent. The kitchen was good, everything was clean, having the halfbath for the girls was perfect. We used the hose to de-sand ourselves, but an outdoor shower would have been appreciated and used.
Our ONLY complaint: time for new mattresses. The Queen bed could use a center support, also, as my husband and I kept rolling to the middle. Standing at the foot of the bed, the V shape is very obvious. One of the twin beds was fine (of course, that child can sleep ANYWHERE), but the one nearest the bath was not comfortable. I know, I sound like Goldilocks. With the attention to detail and the excellent service we were shown, I'm sure this will be remedied, and we look forward to a return trip, with another Mermaid Cottage. Thank you so much for your help, it was just what we were needing. |

The Enlisted Men's Hall was a perfect place to stay. My son said it was just like home, which is a great compliment for a rental property. It was very convenient to the beach and getting around and definitely, bring the bikes! Savannah was a nice day trip but very hot and crowded so the beach was a relaxing place to retreat to after that long day.
I was very pleased with our cottage and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique place to stay. We will definitely be back but may check out another Mermaid property just out of curiousity.
Thanks for everything, Diane and Barb.

We loved the location: Tybee's signature lighthouse and excellent North beach are within a short walk from the Hall. It is a duplex with permanent residents living in the other unit. They were quiet as mice. The wraparound screen porch offered a wonderful view of the beautiful beach homes and condos in the sleepy neighborhood, as well as a view of the wonderful eucalyptus tree that dominates the yard.
The amenities include a full kitchen, which we put to good use - there are many places on Tybee to purchase fresh caught shrimp and other tasty seafood. (Hint: check the bucket in the IGA for a great deal!)
The house was clean and the beds unusually soft and covered with pillows.
If you're looking for a quiet getaway at a completely furnished home, the Hall would be a great choice. |

The Enlisted Men's Mess Hall is a cute, quiet and enchanting little cottage. We stayed there from Sunday to Friday and enjoyed it very much. The beach is only a 5 minute walk away which was also very convenient. The only issue we had was when it became very hot we had trouble with the airconditioning. There are trouble shooting suggestings in the cottage manual but it was a bit complicated and we didn't want any potential problems with possible condensation. Other than that it is the perfect cottage for a family of 4, especially since there are 2 bathrooms. We highly recommend it.

| We stayed for a week with our toddler daughter and enjoyed the nearby playgrounds and beach. Mermaid Cottages were very accommodating with the issues that came up (needed space heater because was quite cold at night and needed mop because floors not clean - dog hair, sand, etc. - when we arrived). Also, no DVD player though review of house said there'd be one. I will say that any shortcomings were quickly remedied. Highly recommend AJ's Dockside and enjoyed proximity to Savannah. Very quiet street. |

Met Sue at the dog park on Tybee and she made a quick phonecall to Dianne, the owner of Mermaid Cottages. The cottege we rented for the night was the cutest vacation rental we have ever had and such a treasure! We stayed a second night because we just could not leave! Beautiful bedrooms with squishy beds and a cozy kitchen with all appliances...we made cookies that night. The cottage has a picket fenced yard for a dog and is just off the ocean and a park. We will be back soon and thank you so much for a memorable New Year at Mermaid Cottages! |

My boyfriend and I love Tybee Island, and staying on the North end in a Mermaid Cottage was a great choice from the very beginning! Diane was very helpful and made the entire process a breeze.
The house was exactly as described and had just about everything you could need on-hand to make a nice dinner and just relax for a few days! The bed in the master bedroom was so incredibly comfortable (just part of the reason why I chose this cottage!), and the ceiling fans throughout the house really kept the temperature pleasant. The master bathroom's shower is a little tricky because of the shape of the tub. The screened-in porch was soooo nice to enjoy the cool, breezy Tybee nights! We didn't take any pets with us, but I noticed there were some goodies there for dogs, and I thought that was a nice touch.
I'd definitely recommend the EMMH and Tybee to anyone looking for a great little getaway that's reasonably priced and in a great location...very close to the beach and the lighthouse! Make sure to check out the sunset on the north end of the island by the lighthouse...unforgettable! |

| This is a very sweet rental. Perfect for a couple on a romantic weekend. The Master bedroom is soothing and very comfortable. The bedding and mattress appear to be new and are perfectly comfortable. Walking the winding streets on the way to the beach makes it feel like summer vacations from a long time ago. My mother found sitting on the cozy screened porch to be her favorite spot to read, the fact that it smelled of eucalyptus from the tree out front was a welcomed bonus. The second sleeping room has a door to the outside in it, so I would not recommend it for young children. And the public living spaces are very small. The cabinets were reasonably stocked with basic essentials so you dont find yourself needing to run out for coffee filters. All in all, this was an enjoyable cottage. |

We were looking for a long weekend getaway close to Savannah and searched Hilton Head and Tybee Island for cottages/small vacation homes by broadcast email.
Mermaid Properties were first to reply with three options, accurate descriptions and good photos. We made a selection and then heard from the Dianne K that we may want to consider an alternative that just became available - The Mess Hall
It was cute, clean, comfortable, quiet and just what we needed. Close to the beaches, great verandah, cool AC. Just bring some beach towels and a cooler and you're ready for Tybee beaching.
Great folks, good communications. We'd definitely go back. |
