Somebody knew what they were doing when she furnished this cottage! From the airy screen porch with its cushioned lounges in the shade, perfect for people watching, to the light & bright rooms and kitchen, this cottage is ready for every vacation need. The kitchen & bathrooms are clean & bright, the bedrooms have extra blankets & big pillows & roomy closets, the laundry room has hooks EVERYWHERE! so everybody can hang up their suit & towel & toiletry bag, and novels of every taste are waiting for a quiet moment. We walked to the beach, we walked to Vinnie's, we walked to the ice cream place.... Loved it! Two suggestions: if you're short & an early riser like me, move the small red lamp to the kitchen,'cuz the ceiling light string is too high to reach to make coffee in the dark. And move a rug to the back door for when you come in from the outdoor shower, or else there will be a sandy mess all over the floor.

My sister and I learned about Mermaid Cottages through a magazine article which we had read. We immediately decided that we had to go to Tybee and stay at one. We looked at every cottage before making up our mind to book Little Fish. We wanted something that reminded us of our days at the beach as children and Little Fish seemed like just the place. When we turned down Lovell Avenue, we knew that we had come to the right place. It was even more perfect than we could have imagined. We have never stayed in a rental which provided so much. The kitchen had everything that we could have possibly needed. We found nothing missing. And what a great selection of books and games! The cottage was spotless. We had no need to request service because everything was there. We spent many wonderful moments sitting on the screened in front porch. The walk to the beach was just perfect - just down a block and over the dunes. We were also within walking distance of great places to eat - breakfast, lunch and dinner. And when we wanted to eat in, the grocery store was no more than a block away. We will definitely return. I could not imagine staying in any other cottage. We loved it!

We had a great time staying at Little Fish. Mermaid Cottages was very professional and we enjoyed the services. The house was great- nice and open and the family loved the big screened in front porch. We sat out there many nights. We had forgot our high chair for our son and the owner of the house brought one out to the house that very day- awesome service. Our only complaints were that the floors were dirty when we got there and I had a small child that was crawling so that was a little unpleasant, the other was that there was only one TV in the cottage. We had several rainy days and it would have been great if there had been another television in the Master Bedroom or the back room to watch. Other than that, we loved the house- it had everything we needed- even sand toys for the kids and it was close to everything. Grocery store, restaurants, the pier. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to many more vacation on Tybee!

thank you for staying with us! We tell all our guests- when you arrive- if there is anything at all that you need or if anything isn't 100% correct- please call us immediately and we'll bring over what you need. Same with things like the floor- we are always happy to re send our housekeepers over to the cottages if anything isnt exactly how it should be. We look forward to welcoming you back to Tybee soon!

great location. service good. house needed some minor things; like , front door lock wouldn't engage(it would lock, but you could push on it and it would open) several of the doors had issues.
it is a stretch of the imagination to call the house pet friendly, when you have a local resident that complains about an incident of barking.
a little over-priced, I have rented nicer places on Tybee for the same price or less
overall good experience, don't know if I would rent it again for a week again , maybe a weekend.

I rented the Little Fish Cottage for several days as my daughter was getting married on the beach at Tybee. My daughter, some of her bridesmaids, myself, and even her doggie stayed for 3 nights. The cottage was charming and just the right size for the 6 of us. It was clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. It was nearby to the beach and our reception site and local restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay there.

This was our first trip to Tybee, so we had no idea what to expect. We were delighted with Little Fish Cottage - it had everything we needed. I, personally, fell in love with the character and charm of the cottage. The furnishings were quaint and comfortable.
The cottage was far enough off the beaten path to be private, yet close enough that we could walk or bike to the beach, shopping and restraunts.
The Mermaid Cottages staff was very helpful and responsive to my questions when we booked our vacation.
All in all, we loved our vacation and hope to return next year.

The only thing I would change would be the back walkway from the outside shower. With it being small stones, we were always tracking them into the cottage on our wet feet. I would recommend a large paver stone walkway to eliminate this problem.

Three of us girls spent a wonderful week on Tybee Island. Little Fish cottage was everything, and more, that we expected it would be. We found it stocked with everything that we needed and very clean. The location to the beach, restaurants and grocery store was ideal while still being quiet and peaceful. We rented bikes from Tim's Beach Gear (Little Fish's owner, as it turned out)and had a wonderful time riding around the island admiring all the beautiful little cottages and the marsh. I highly recommend renting bikes from Tim; he delivers them right to your door.

Diane at Mermaid Cottages made the whole renting experience a smooth one. I would recommend Mermaid Cottages to anybody interested in renting a place on Tybee Island and we can't wait to return. It was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing vacations that we have ever had. Oh, and meeting Billy Ray Cyrus was just icing on the cake!!

We were looking for a place for my wife and me plus 4 kids (9-16) to stay comfortably. Little Fish, with bedrooms and two daybeds, accomplished this wonderfully. The 3BR designation is a little misleading. It should be noted that one daybed is on the converted front porch (now the front room), while the other daybed is on the converted back porch. The property is very close to: "downtown" Tybee (3 blocks), the beach (<2 blocks), and to the grocery store (2 blocks). All of this in a generally quiet, traffic-free neighborhood. The property was in good shape, and everything promised was there and more! The kitchen was fully stocked (appliances, glasses, plates, blender, microwave, serving pieces, measuring cups, pans, etc.), with some cleaning supplies I didn't expect to find. There was even a good array of spices! The framed local recipes were a nice touch. The washer & dryer were full-sized front-loaders, and there was even plenty of detergent for our multiple loads.
My wife found a new favorite author amongst the books to read, and the kids enjoyed the TV/DVD and the games.
The beds were firm yet comfortable.
We used the provided sling-style beach chairs, sand castle buckets, and frisbee on our trips to the beach. The outdoor shower helped to keep the place clean.

The reservation process, including confirmation emails and telephone calls, was excellent.
We could not have asked for a better trip nor a nicer place to stay. We'll be back!

We love Tybee Island and we love using Mermaid. This cottage, while in a great location...could use some improvements. The blender in the pictures does not work, bring your own. The gate for the dog area is not reliable, bring a dog line. It is true, we killed three roaches while there for 3 days. Finally, at 10:10a on checkout day we had a very rude cleaning lady enter the cottage and begin to strip the beds while we were still getting dressed. There was no misunderstanding about the time however she has 6 hours to clean the place (check-in 4p) and all we asked was for 10 minutes of privacy to get dressed and leave for our 6 hour drive home. We will be back next year but will stay at the place we enjoyed last year.
pin Manager Response: September 04, 2008
Thank you for your comments. We have repaired the dog fence in the back yard and dogs are now secure in the back. I'm sorry if our housekeeping team member was rude to you. On days when we have turns overs, we truly need to get into the home as close to your check out time as possible. She certainly should have given you the privacy you need to finish dressing and we are sorry for that.... however as we continue to work to improve on the cleaning of all our homes, we have a very extensive list of things the housekeepers have to do to clean the home and it does take the full time. We do give our housekeepers a lunch break but we do clean for the entire time. However- please remember- for days when we don't have check in's, we are always happy to offer a late check out to help you enjoy the beach a little longer. Again, very sorry about the rush of our housekeeper to get the cottage ready.

PS- should ANY of our guests find something in the home not working, we will immediately work to replace or repair the item. We have in all our homes not only a sheet on the refrigerator with the phone numbers of three of our team mates to call to resolove any problem. this is in addition to my name and phone number. Blenders are an essential part of enjoying the beach and if I had know yours what not working, we would have had a new one there within the hour... so to all our guests- please, please, please let us know while you're here to we can resolove any problem you are experiencing. We can't fix the problem if we don't know about what's wrong....

The Mermaid Cottage is really cute and has a lot of charm. Our vacation would have been better if there had actually been 3 separate bedrooms. Instead there were 2 bedrooms. What was supposed to be the 3rd bedroom was actually extra space across the back of the house. Everyone had to walk through this space to get the 2nd bath, the laundry room and the back yard. No privacy for the 3rd bedroom. I was also under the impression that the fenced back yard was around the back door. Not so. We had to leash the dogs, walk them to the fenced area, unleash them and then stand in front of the gate which did not close solidly to keep the dogs from getting out. In the middle of the night, this was not good. When we first got there, I put the dogs in the fenced area and proceeded to sit down in a chair by the umbrella table and immediately fell to the ground. I tore my pants and bruised my arm. All four chairs were rusted completely through at the hinges.

We adapted to the situation, but were not as comfortable as had hoped we would be on vacation.

The Little Fish cottage is pretty much how it is described on the website. We found it very convenient to everything and a short walk to the beach. Nicely decorated and well stocked too. I loved the washer/dryer which was very helpful after a long afternoon at the beach.

Unfortunately though, there were some issues. First of all, our dog (not a very big dog) was able to jump the small gate in the backyard dog pen. In addition, there were no chairs that went with the table outside so we couldn't enjoy the backyard patio.

However, the real issue for us were the cockroaches and palmetto bugs. During our one week stay we killed about 10. One even landed on my husband's elbow when we were in bed sleeping. Needless to say we didn't get a full nights rest during our entire trip. We did make sure that all the food was picked up before going to bed, including the dogs dishes, but that didn't seem to prevent them from visiting.

I did call early on during the week to complain to Mermaid Cottages and I was told that it was normal to see them with the Palm trees overhead. That's fine...but, even we found the amount of visitors excessive. We would have been okay with one or two...but not 10. Maybe there should be some warning about it on the website before you plunk down all of that money.

If we did go again and stayed at Little Fish I would contact Mermaid Cottages to find out if it had been sprayed recently for insects.

It's too bad, because the cottage itself was very charming and everything would have been GREAT had it not been for the bugs.

pin Manager Response: August 14, 2008
We always appreciate honest feedback from our guests. I did share this with this guest but want to share this with everyone who reads this review. Bugs- We hate them but they are a fact of life for a coastal community in the south in the middle of a hot , dry summer. We spray ALL our cottages on a monthly basis for these bug visitors as well as spray for Fleas weekly. The challenge is with the palmetto bugs ( or those large flying "cockroaches" )is they can come in from the outside in the tiniest of cracks. Little Fish Cottage is an old charming cottage built in the 1930's and there are cracks where bugs can come in. 10 bugs was excessive and we did go over and spray and bomb as soon as these guests left, but we had also experienced an long dry period without rain which seems to bring more bugs in side.

We have also replaced the back yard chairs and fixed the gate.

Please call or email Diane if you'd like to discuss any more concerns about the bugs at any of our homes. 912 786 5918 or diane@mermaidcottages.com
