We really enjoyed our stay at the Surf Puppy - it's the perfect place for a couple - near the beach, near the shops and restaurants, and just perfect inside. Clean, comfortable, just a great place to stay. We really enjoyed the screened in porch, as well as the very comfortable bedroom. Highly recommend, would definitely stay again.

We were so impressed with the appearance of the property the minute we arrived. It is so cute and so close to the beach! The house was immaculate and was stocked with just about anything we could think of (or wouldn't have thought of!). Bed was super comfy, outdoor shower fabulous (it's located under a grove of giant palm trees!) and kitchen tiny but fun to use. The cheerful decoration of the cottage made staying in fun as well.
The only trouble we had was with a door lock and the problem was addressed within five minutes of my call to Mermaid offices with a knock at the door from the gentleman from maintenance.
We could not believe our luck with location. This house is just around the corner from restaurants and an awesome ice cream and snowcone shop. It was also a super easy walk to the beach.
We plan to return next summer for sure.

My wife and I had a wonderful wedding and honeymoon stay at the Surf Puppy. The cottage was cozy and nicely furnished, especially for the two of us and our two dogs. Extra amenities like the deck furniture, beach furniture and toys, tea and (small) flat screen tv added to the stay. The decor is very cute and colorful. The administrative staff was very helpful and booked an extra night for us happily at the last minute. Most importantly, the beach is only a two minute walk away, as is a great little restaurant called Sting Rays. My only complaint is that the outdoor shower was full of spiders and skeeters, but that's just Tybee. We would definitely stay at the Surf Puppy again.

The Surf Puppy was a great place to spend a honeymoon, all the conveniences of home, and an outdoor shower! It was very relaxing, close enough to the beach to easily carry the necessities out, close to a grocery store, close to restaurants and bars, a nice yard to hang out in (although the bugs will bite). I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back again.

Can't wait for June 2010!! I have already rented the Surf Puppy and will do this every year to celebrate my wedding anniversary. My husband and I got married on the island we thought we were going to have a beautiful wedding but it was beyond everything we had planned and I truly believe it was because of staying at the Surf Puppy. It is sometimes hard to be away from home but as soon as we made it to the cottage we felt very comfortable. It is very cozy and Diane is incredible!! One day we were lost trying to get to Savannah I called Diane and I found out that when she spoke to me she was literally in her Dentist chair!!most folks would not have answered the phone but she did and she gave us the directions we needed to get to the courthouse to get our wedding license!! I now have a second home the surf puppy and for a week every year I will say that I live on Tybee Island!!!!!! We are hooked!!

Our favorite things were bike riding, beautiful beach and warm ocean waters.

Surf Puppy was adorable. Very comfortable and a fun and place to stay. Great location.

A second tv in the bedroom and more channels on the tv's would be nice.

Worst thing.....Mosquitos!!!!!

The Surf Puppy is the perfect cottage, comfortable, clean, beautifully decorated. My husband would have preferred more cable TV channels and a Tv in the bedroom are the only things we'd change. Location is perfect, walk to beach, I would walk to Stingray's in the evening and bring home a mess of crawfish and a mango margarita to go! The neighborhood is quiet, yet close enough to walk to nightspots. I highly recommend both the Surf Puppy and Tybee Island, we are definately coming back.

The Surf Puppy is such a cute place to stay. Like some reviewers have said, it is small, but it makes up for it in charm. We met the housekeeping staff (who live across the street) and they were super friendly. The beach is 2 blocks away which was such a short walk. We rented at the end of April and it was perfect. We felt like we had the whole beach/island to ourselves. There were very few tourists during this time of year. Our young boys had a blast exploring everything. Thanks Dianne and the staff of the Surf Puppy! We had a great trip!

My wife and I rented the Surf Puppy for our honeymoom. We could not have made a better choice! While playing with our two dogs in the yard the first night, I found a four-leaf clover. This was on a Sunday and the island was getting geared up for the St. Pat's day festivities on Saturday and our wedding bands have an inscription that is in Gaelic. So with all of that in our favor, how could things possibly have gone wrong! Later in the week, I found another four leaf clover and yes a five leaf also. We left that one there in the house and hope that it will bring the same great stay to all other guests as it did for us!

Thank you we will most certainly be back.

We enjoyed the whole experience; even the tornado siren @ 3:10 AM., and were very grateful for the response instructions in the notebook.

Folks in town were friendly. Food was good. The beach was lovely. Hope to come back.

I absolutely love the Surf Puppy by Mermaid Cottages! My new husband and I stayed there for our Honeymoon. We were married on the Pier on Tybee Beach on Jan 10th and stayed at the Surf Puppy! We were even able to bring our furbaby Abby! We could have stayed at a hotel or condo, but nothing could compare to staying in one of these cottages. Diane went out of her way to make our stay wonderful! The decor, quietness of the neighborhood, and all of the amenities gave it such a homey feel! I even love the fenced in yard! Honestly if we did not have a mortgage where we are, I would want to move here!
I loved sitting on the screened in porch every evening. You can here the ocean! It was so peaceful!

Thanks so much and we look forward to visiting again!

What a wonderful time we had on our vacation in Tybee. The cottage was perfect and we were lucky enough to visit and meet the ladies at Seaside Sisters and see some of Jane Coslicks stuff. The cottage made me feel like I was at a home away from home and its was just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach as promised. We rented bikes from Tims Beach Gear and we were very impressed on the overall pleasant and friendly atmosphere of the Tybee residents. Tybee is definitely not a cliche tourist trap more like a paradise away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I would recommend a visit here if you want a very relaxing vacation. The people at Mermaid cottages helped me tremendously while I booked the reservation (thanks Diane) and also helped us while we were there. Our family will be back to Tybee and we will defintely be booking with Mermaid Cottages.

Surf Puppy is a great cottage. This was the first time we had spent any time at the beach not in a hotel. My kids cannot wait to go back next year. It was two blocks from the beach. It was an easy walk my five year old did it with no complants. It has a nice fenced in yard. The kids could safely play in. We also rented bikes. Which was fun for the whole family. It was very nice and relaxing. The best part was the outside shower and washer and dryer. We never brought sand in the house and had fresh beach towels every day.

Pros: Not a bad walk to the beach and pier. Good location to bicycle. Great fenced pet-yard! Hot/Cold outdoor shower! Interesting locally-generated art. Secluded porch. Washer and Dryer (see cons).

Cons: Tiny bathroom nook. Odd layout of bedroom to bathroom. Needs better cleaning before check-in (dead bugs, grime on floor). Odd furniture and should be better suited for regular cleaning. No scenic view. Clothes washer and dryer cause high heat and humidity in bedroom and sweat-wet floors. No dihwasher. Bedroom furniture beyond "weathered." No closet. Only one sparse sheet set.

As always, we welcome honest feedback from all our guests. Our cottages are "tybee quirky" and we don't profess to be anything other then what we are- the little unique cottages with funny layouts that no one else loved enough to restore- so we did! The cottages are also priced very affordably so everyone can come and enjoy the beach and bring their pets. We are very clearon the website that the cottages do not have a view- again which is why we're able to offer such great prices. Our furniture is "shabby chic" and is a style that not everyone loves- but it's what we love about our cottages. We do appreciate the suggestion about the cleaniess and have addressed this with our housekeepers. thank you again for your comments and feedback!
