Guest Reviews for Moon Shadow's Hide Out #939

The journey IS the destination - part 1
At the end of Jan, SoCal was hit by 4 storms in one week. We had this cabin rented from BBV for a Fri and Sat night stay. After assessing the severity of the storm and realizing that it will be chaotic to try to make it up there for the weekend, we called on Thur to see if we could move our vacation to another weekend. We were told that we couldn't do that. The best she could do for us was move it up or back a day. We called Fri to move it back a day bc we knew we couldn't get up there trying to drive through the storm. Against our better judgment, we decided to make the trip on Sat bc we didn't want to lose our money. Our drive up there should have only taken 2-3 hrs max. At the 7th hr into the drive, we heard that they may be only letting residents up the mtn. We called again to ask what was going to happen if we couldn't get up and they told us that we could just postpone it to another day. The company recently changed it's policy because of the storm situation. We already spent half the day driving so we continued our trek. They opened the roads to everyone and we reached there after 12 hrs. We checked in and drove up to the cabin. The road the cabin was on had not been correctly plowed so we could not drive up it. We called BBV to tell them about the situation and they said they'd reimburse us for a hotel room if we couldn't get to the cabin. After getting stuck in the snow there we called them again to get more details about the hotel reimbursement but they were closed and their 24 hour emergency person didn't know anything about it. We called hotels and couldn't find any available. We decided to park wherever we could, walk up the road with our luggage & shovel snow to make a pathway to the front door of the cabin. At 11:30pm at night I was shoveling 4ft deep snow with a shovel borrowed from a neighbor. BBV said they were supposed to plow the road and a pathway to the front door, but never did it. memorable vacation
This cozy cabin was perfect for my family vacation. Located on the edge of town, it was a quite with a beautiful view of the woods/mountains. The cabin was just the right size, small enough to be cozy and personal but big enough to not feel cramped. We comfortably fit a party of 5 people. If your going during winter the cabin has a great heating system that will keep you warm and toasty. kitchen was fully loaded, didn't need to bring anything except for food of course. BigBearVacations was quick easy to work with. The only thing that I could complain about really had nothing to do with the cabin itself was the fact that trash needed to be taken to a dump site in town. The trash issue was to keep bears from coming into neighborhoods so cant really complain. More...

Great location, had everything we needed
We stayed for 3 nights after Thanksgiving for a quick getaway with our 3
small children. The cabin was perfect four our needs. The loft space has 2
beds, which was more than enough for our 2, 5, and 8 year old boys. They
loved it up there, although it did get quite hot up there when we had the
fire running downstairs. The main bedroom downstairs was comfortable
too, but was colder at night (use a second blanket).
The plastic mattress cover didn't squeak as much as other people said it
would. I slept comfortably, and I am a light sleeper.
The kitchen had everything we needed, but we found ourselves eating out
most of the time because we were too lazy to cook. The cabin is about 10
mins from supermarkets and restaurants, so we found it ideally located. In
fact, I think we were better off on the north side of the lake in this cabin,
and away from the noise and bustle of the main town area.
From the cabin you can walk north to the end of the street and off into the
forest/hill area, which we really enjoyed. Very peaceful and scenic.
We had trouble with one of the locks on the front door; it required some
jiggling to get the lock to open, and they gave us the wrong key to unlock
the padlock for the jacuzzi. So make sure you arrive early enough to check
everything in case you need to run down to the main office to get the right
keys, etc, before they close.
They sell firewood at the main office, but you can get it much cheaper at
the supermarket, so don't feel compelled to buy that if they offer it to you
upon check in.
There were some gruesome/explicit stories in the cabin visitors logbook
about the exploits of previous guests which were disturbing to my Christian
sensibilities, so don't read it, it might put you off getting into the jacuzzi.
Maybe they were fake entries, but it was enough to make us feel
uncomfortable.
The price was good for the quality; everything decent up there is expensive.
We will stay there again. More...

Great getaway
The Cabin was perfect for a group of four. My friends and I fell in love with the decorations and how cozy the cabin is. We hope to return to the same Cabin on December 2010. I definitely recommend it, it was a wonderful experience! More...
