A very nice place |

We stayed in August 2009. The Iron Horse was very nice. We stayed because they had a swimming pool. When we arrived, the temperatures were in the 60's, which is not ideal swimming weather. Much to my surprise, the swimming pool was heated to at least the mid to high 80 degree mark. Swimming in the 85 degree water temperature was fantastic. I cannot think of anything that Iron Horse could have done to improve the stay.
However, our unit did not have air conditioning, which required the windows and sliding door to be opened because the unit was sort of warm. There is train station a mile or so away that is very busy throughout the night. The trains come through a tunnel built into the mountain blaring their train whistle that woke me up at least twice every night. Even when I closed the windows, the train whisle still woke me up. I don't blame this on Iron Horse at all. I would stay there again, but I would bring ear plugs the next time to avoid being woke up twice a night by the train. I know understand why they call the place the "Iron Horse". |

We had a great time. The resort is extremely wonderful, comfortable, homey rooms. The staff is well-trained and friendly. The overall experience was fantastic. They are set up to handle huge family reunions or small business meetings.
The pool and hot tub were a huge hit.
Given the opportunity we definitley will go back and stay longer. I give the resort an A+++ |

Too cheap for customer comfort |

OK, lets face it, most people check in on a Friday and leave on a Sunday. The
people at the Iron Fist resort have figured out a way to screw the people who
are kind enough to stay at their facility. When I checked in , I was told ( and
even shown a written schedule) that the cleaning schedule put the
housekeeping staff in my room on Friday and Sunday.....and if I wanted to
have my room cleaned on Saturday I'd have to pay an EXTRA 35.00 dollars!!
Otherwise, if I wanted clean towels I could come back to the front desk and
pick them up.
I travel about 100 days per year, and have never run across such a blatant
disregard for hotel customer comfort as this, not even in budget motels have I
been so shabbily treated.
I will never stay at the Iron Fist , ever again. Too cheap is too cheap, and if
I wanted cheap I'd have gone to Pueblo and not Winter Park, Colorado |

Manager Response: August 10, 2009 |
| We make every attempt to have our guests feel like they are at home when they stay with us and feel that a daily visit to your condo would be intrusive. Our housekeeping staff operates on an every two day clean; the second night of your stay you would receive a tidy, and the fourth night of your stay you would receive a full clean. At the front desk we offer additional cleans if you require more housekeeping. |

Why I won't be back to Iron Horse |

We have been coming to the Iron Horse for years to both ski and enjoy a summer get-away. Up to this past trip, we have had excellent service, a clean and comfortable room and over-all an enjoyable-relaxing experience. This past trip changed all of this.
We come up to ski Winter Park for the annual end-of-season "Spring Splash", it's an annual trip the family takes every year and we have in the past come up with friends and their family's. We have also recommended that we stay at the Iron Horse and everyone always has a good time and when they plan a trip to Winter Park, usually go back to the Iron Horse.
This past April, we had one those spring storms that dumps a ton of snow (great for skiing) and can play havoc with getting up the hill from the Denver metro area. This storm didn't disappoint and we were unable to make it up for our first night's stay. They closed the highway I-70 and Berthoud Pass, which gets you to Winter Park. There is alternate route, but due to the ccnditions, I was certainly not going to jepordize my families safety and spend hours on the road in blizzard conditions (would you?). I called and let them know what was happening and of course they (the staff) were fully aware of the road closures and deterioating road conditions. The policy is pay-up-front for your stay (which is standard operating policy for resorts). I have no problem with this, but I also think that acts of god, which in this case the weather, they should be a bit flexible in handling these types of circumstances. I was told if you don't make it, you loose and still would be charged for the night you missed. Now, here is the rub, instead of offering me some options (I didn't necessarily want a refund), the attitude from the staff was, you don't make it, tough you loose. They could have did a few things that would have left a better taste in mouth, i.e., up-graded our accommodations (the place was empty), offer us a night in the summer... They elected to do nothing... |
