A delightful oasis that didn't cost the earth |

A spacious and comfortable apartment, with everything necessary for a family vacation. The apartment has two bedrooms, one with a king size and one with a queen size bed (so two couples might end up arguing over that!) as well as two children's beds on a mezzanine floor. The kitchen is fully equipped, there are beach towels for the guests' use and the owners - I assume - have also left a number of pieces of snorkelling equipment for kids in the cupboards. The included wireless internet was fast and with no interruptions during our week there.
We loved it and felt it was great value.
The resort is also well-equipped: we didn't get to the fitness centre, the pool is pleasant if small and, since there are stern warnings about boisterous behaviour, not particularly kid friendly but then there is a whole ocean out there 15 minutes walk further along where they can mess as much as they like!
The island as a whole is fantastic and full of things to do and see: though if molten lava is your thing then Hilo is probably a better location (or you can take a helicopter tour of course).
On the down side the local shops are less than good value - particularly the supermarkets - and activities on the island are often very expensive: we could easily have paid out the same as one week's rental every day to do all the things we wanted to. Going to Kona and shopping around can save a lot (snorkel rental at Waikoloa Beach u$s 7 an HOUR or u$s 28 per day, in Kona it was u$s 2 a DAY or u$s 10 a week). Still, you can find everything you need within a few minutes walk if you are prepared to pay.
The nearby Waikoloa Hilton Resort Hotel should be seen, with its monorail and dolphin lagoon, even if using any of its facilities is again very dear. Though if you are prepared to sit through a two hour presentation they are looking for investors and tempting you with free gifts. |

We had a very nice time here. Abbey called the week before we arrived to change us to this unit, as the one we originally rented was in a complex that was going to be having tile work all week long. When we arrived, the tile guys were just finishing up on our building, indeed moving to the other building the following day...
It was so nice to be able to cook and eat right there, with a beautiful view.
the only downside was an incredibly creaky faux-bamboo bedframe. Just turning over at night woke both of us up every time. Also, apparently, the first cokie-frog to find the Fairway Villas had set up shop outside our window, so noise at night was a bit of a problem.
All in all, a lovely stay. |

The place was clean. I was told it had a sleeper couch. When we got there all that was there was a very uncomfortable couch that was very warn out. it had tears in it and was filthy.
I could not even sit on the couch because of the condition and dirtiness.
The pool was great. Slept well, but would not recommend the rental unless new couch.

The bedding for Waikoloa Fairway Villas I33 is a King in the master bedroom, Queen in the 2nd bedroom, and two twin beds in the loft bedroom. There is a sleeper sofa in the livingroom, but this sofa is seldom used for sleeping since this unit's occupancy limit is 6 persons, and the King, Queen and two twin beds is appropriate for most parties.
Comfort is important, and the owner of this unit will be replacing this sofa, along with a new recliner in the livingroom, and a new livingroom coffee table later this week. |

Attractive condo |

This is an attractive condo in a complex with lovely well maintained grounds and an excellent pool.
The location close to the beach and shops is excellent.
For the most part it is quite quiet there.
This particular unit needs some maintenance. The living room furniture is worn out and
extremely uncomfortable.
The frig required repairs while we were there. It sounded like a jet engine all one night which did not allow sleeping.
The ice machine appears to be rusting inside. A very nice repair man came and fixed the problem.
The sinks in the master bathroom both get stuck in place if you pull the stoppers up.
The dryer takes an extremely long time to dry anything especially towels.
I really like this complex but will be careful to enquire for details about the unit I rent before I come again.
I found the Abbey vacation staff very helpful and courteous.
Thank you. |

Fairway Villas are great; Abbey Rental is not customer service |

Last minute, we decided to go to Waikoloa. We have a timeshare at Waikoloa Beach, but not at this time, so we looked into a rental property. I rented the unit from Abbey Rentals. The unit was wonderful. Well appointed, clean, and very inviting, plus exactly as advertised. The pool area at Fairway Villas is small, but nice. My only complaint is with Abbey Rentals.
At first, they were smug, but workable. Then, when I mentioned that I had 50 people coming in 2007 for a wedding and would like to offer a bulk-discount deal to them for accomodations, Abbey balked about 5%. In the end, I recommended other places to our guests and sent them to the Waikoloa Beach Hilton, the Bay Club, and the VRBO.com website. Our guests paid much less than they would have from Abbey and many rented at Fairway and other great places in Waikoloa Beach. My advice: Shop Around. Abbey is high priced and their service isn't worth it. |

This guest seems to be mistaking customer service for price discounts. Our business practice is to do well by all we work with, guests, owners, and the complexes we rent units within.
Though potentially renting a large number of units might at first blush appear to deserve larger discounts, the units in question are not owned by our firm. They are owned by individual owners, so from an owner of one of these units perspective, a very large discount would not be appropriate since while our company may be requested to do a larger deal, they as owners have to pay the unit's mortgage. We place our unit owner's interests before our own.
The Fairway Villas AOAO has made it very clear to us that large groups, certainly one of 50 persons, is not desired at their complex. The Homeowners association at the Fairway Villas feel that large groups take over the pool, and spoil the enjoyment of others.
So knowing that this was not a desirable location for this larger group, we did convey this information to this guest, and explained the reason that we could not offer a larger discount.
While we are sorry that these explanations did not meet with this guest's approval. We did take care of this guest's interests, since they would have had issues during their stay with the Fairway Villa authorities had they had a larger group. We made the right decision for the owners of these units, and acted as requested by the Fairway Villas Complex. Upon review of this matter, we do believe the best interests of all involved were served including this guest. |
