We have stayed at the Islander many times over the past 20 years. It had been three years since we were there last and unfortunately, it may very well be our last. Years ago, when our boys were younger, we came every year and found the staff to be quite friendly and accommodating. This time we it to be a much different experience. We could not check into our room until 5:00 p.m and had to be checked out by 10:00 a.m.! We requested a late check out but only received 90 minutes later. When asked if anyone was checking into our room, we were told no, 10:00 is policy.

To no fault of the condo, the beach is very sad. Years ago the beachfront was larger. Now you can barely walk along the beach and forget about sitting peacefully - the small crowded beach is pretty awful. We plan to stay down the beach closer to The Back Porch. We have found a condo that has a much larger beachfront and we hope to find that "homey" front desk we use to know in Destin years ago.

I booked the vacation based off the information from the internet. I did not know what to expect. When we arrived and checked in there were no added surprises in cost. After checking in and going to the room, we found the room was very clean. The room had all of your basic household needs. The view from the balcony was just as expected or better. Wow!! We were very pleased with the accomadations at The Islander- so much so that we are already planning our return trip next summer with several of our friends and family!
We loved watching the boats and water activities and even an occasional dolphin or two from our balcony each morning into the evening.
The unit was also had a very well equipped kitchen which is great for those who love to cook and create special romantic meals to enjoy out n the balcony as you watch the sun set!!
The Family Fun package was a big hit - the tickets to the Track and Water park gave the teenagers something to do when not at the beach.
The location of this property was very convienant to anything you wanted or needed! We would definately refer this property to anyone looking for a place to enjoy the beautiful Emerald Waters of Destin Florida!!
