The first room was quite musty...but
We originally registered and got one room, on our print-out. Upon arrival we were placed in a different room, no problem. Except this room was VERY musty smelling, like a wet footlocker. We opened the windows for 20 minutes with strong winds blowing thru, but made little dent in odor. Front desk worked came up and after walking thru, wrinkled her nose and said, "You're right...this is smelly..." She was able to move us down about 3 rooms and this one was acceptible, odor wise.
These units can be quite worn, depending on the owner, I guess. I suppose you're not here for the room, but the view and the location. Pretty clean. In all honesty we are very picky people, so take it for what its worth.
The beach is tiny, meaning the distance from the waters edge to the sea wall is only 30-35 ft. And most of it was taken up by the cabana(?) boy/man renting chairs and umbrellas. He sets up each morning and takes up most of the postage sized Islanders beach. That kinda bothered me, with three little kids....all these empty chairs/umbrellas waiting hours for a renter, yet taking up space from my family...well were visitors, so I guess suck it up.
Also on the beach, fishermen would come by and place PVC pipes in the sand, cast way out in the surf, stick their fishing pole in the PVC pipe and walk away...for HOURS. Here you are walking the small beach with chairs/umbrellas taking up an inordinate amount of space and then some random fishermen leave poles right where the kids want to play in the surf...with fishing lines and presumably large hooks out there somewhere in the surf. Wierd. A local told us this is FLA law and they are allowed to do this...kinda sucks though.
We went to near-by Henderson State Park and Beach. VERY NICE and well worth the short drive. Want to sit on the beach? Go here! Beautiful, wide beach and atleast in April, MUCH less crowded than the narrow beach by the condos.
Bottomline - nice view/location/price. Prob will return. More...
