PhiladelphiaBeautiful Villa - but beach and construction an issue
Left on 04/07/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Let me start with the good news. Pelican Vista is a truly beautiful home, with high end finishings, a magnificent pool with a swim up bar, a terrific outdoor kitchen under a thatch palapa, a great whole house audio system, and an upstairs deck just perfect for watching the sun go down with a cold drink.
A little more honesty about what is going on in the immediate neighborhood, however, would have been appreciated prior to my arrival. When we arrived we were greeted at the door by a very helpful agent who showed us the house. When I asked about the "150 steps to the beach" he told me that unfortunately the road to the beach was blocked by the storm that washed out the beach, but we only have to walk around the construction site to get to the far end of the beach. Oh. Wait. What? Having three pieces of bad news in one sentence is never a nice way to start a vacation. To sum up, the beach access behind the house is blocked, the beach near the house no longer exists, and there is a large multi unit complex under construction across the street.
As it turned out, while walking a quarter of a mile and going down a trash filled path is annoying when you thought you were renting a beach home, it does get you to a truly beautiful beach, and once there you can forget the difficulty. The construction was not much of an eyesore, but sleeping in became impossible by Monday morning. The crew began banging and bringing in trucks at 7:30 the first three mornings. When I complained on Wednesday to the manager that we were told construction didn't start until 8:00, she told us she would speak to them. The rest of the week they started at 6:45...
Those issues aside, we did have a great week. The house was beautiful, the area is very tropical, and the restaurants are high end and interesting. People on the island, including the house management, were very friendly. A fishing expedition caught a huge number of fish for dinner, and is highly recommended.
In short, this house is recommended, but a more honest web site would have been much appreciated.
