Description from the manager

Hale Nana Kohola is a 4,500 sq.ft. architectural masterpiece on the beach in beautiful Puako. Guests can delight in kayaking and snorkeling only steps away in pristine clear coral reefs where Humpback whales come to breed from January to April, and the sea turtles reside year round. Great care was taken with the landscape, creating a beautiful palm tree oasis including a hammock stretched between two palms on the ocean side. This home is one of the few in Puako with a sandy beach right in front.

This home offers 2 master suites, 2 guest bedrooms with their own baths, a media room, and an open living room, dining room and gourmet kitchen...Read more

Beautiful house and great setting. Very helpful staff. We especially liked the ocean toys. Our only critique is that the pool was frigid cold. The pool was much colder then the ocean. I would suggest giving an option for heating the pool. We would have gladly paid for heating it. - Larry M., Utah, USA

Working with the individuals at Luxury Retreats was good - they were professional and responsive initially. The list of activities to choose from was comprehensive and they found us a great chef. The Villa we rented needs to be updated - with a few minor changes it could be a beautiful place - but at the moment it looks a little old and tired. Also the pool was not heated and was extremely cold and unusable - get that you go to Hawaii to swim but can\'t because one of the features is not turned on. We tried to get this fixed and after a few days the owner agreed to only turn on the pool for 8 hours a day but this was not enough to bring the pool to a reasonable given how cold the pool was to start with. Calls on this topic to our representative were not returned - sad to say. Also one of the circuit breakers in one of the bedrooms kept breakers - they were still trying to fix it on the last day. The house was well equipped - however not having the pool was a master problem for us. - Carol W., California, USA

Our Stay at Hale Nana Kohola

Left on 03/02/2011 for a stay in January 2011

Our 3rd year at our favorite place was again the most relaxing wonderful family time. The spectacular views of the ocean are breathtaking, as are the whales we observed breaching and slapping the water. On the water, we kayaked and paddle boarded with the mantarays, school of spinner dolphins and within close proximity of the whales. Sunsets on the beach were a nightly ritual. Truly a family home, with every amenity you can think of, we enjoyed a wonderful family holiday. The beauty of Pu\'ako is it\'s peaceful setting, stepping back to how old Hawaii must have been, while enjoying a luxury home where all that you\'d need or want is provided.

Our stay at Hale Nana Kohola

the Jenny's have thought of everything! From the espresso maker to the kayaks, great beach towels to all Big Island guide books, the media room to outdoor dining, we discovered that this beautiful home was set up to satisfy just about any needs or desires. We enjoyed the pool including so many bathing birds that joined us, the ocean, the sea turtles, the magnificent views at each level of the home, sleeping with the sounds of the sea with walls open in the master suite, cooking in the state of the art kitchen, the palms and the glorious sunsets (shared with equally awestruck neighbors)and we could go on and on. We had a delightful stay in this beautiful home. We will definitely return!

Poor lighting for reading and uncomfortable seating in main room, these are important to me.

Could use central air in the main living space to set off heat from appliances while cooking.
