Vermilion, CanadaStunning ocean view, peaceful paradise

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa del Graff. It was everything we were looking for while staying in the Puerto angel area. Set in a secure quiet community, the house is comfortable and appealing in design. Having been to Huatulco before, we were looking forward to the consistent sun and warm temperatures. Casa del Graff is equipped with several fans which keep the air flowing nicely through the house and we only used the a/c for a short time in the evening before going to bed. The shade from the palapa on the second floor deck was lovely and made for a relaxing place to sit and watch the whales go by. The Mina bay is beautiful and a short walk from the house down to the beach. Coming back up takes care of your workout for the day. The pool is close as well and offers a great place to hang out. Staff at Mina were excellent, super friendly and helpful. Fresh produce and supplies were close by in Puerto angel and we also found several excellent restaurants in the nearby towns. Overall a wonderful experience and we can't wait to go back!

Casa del Graff – The views here are spectacular, the place is quite clean, and the price is quite reasonable. And Mariano, the gatekeeper and caretaker, is a most pleasant and helpful guy.
But there are also a couple of issues that caused us to leave mid-stay (we had booked a week, along with another couple; our friends stayed, more tolerant of what to us were fatal flaws).
First, it should be said that we were there in May which, we learned, is the hottest month of the year on the Oaxacan coast. The house is situated such that the morning sun streams mercilessly into the large, sliding glass doors (two sets on the bottom floor, one on the top). The house only has two small air-conditioners, one in each bedroom—but none in the public space (the living/dining room and kitchen). Even with the curtains drawn (blocking the wonderful view) and bedspreads thrown over the curtain rods to double the curtains, the heat gain from the greenhouse effect makes the house (except for the bedrooms) almost uninhabitable in the daytime. Literally, the temperature in those rooms reached 90 degrees each day (there’s a thermometer there to verify it). Also, the bedrooms are quite unequal. Upstairs, the master bedroom, with its bath, occupies the full floor and has the view. The small, downstairs bedroom has only a small window on the side.
The second problem is the location. The road up to the house’s cliff-top perch is as steep as any driveway you are ever likely to encounter. Without a rental car, which we lacked, you must walk down that very steep hill to the gate, then up another fairly steep hill, to get to the road (a 10-15 minute rugged hike, unless you are truly athletic), where you then can wait for a taxi or collectivo or walk another 15 minutes or so into Puerto angel—an interesting, working fishing village, with several restaurants and modest hotels, but not much of a beach or resort town. Nearer the house, there is a small, very secluded beach (La Mina) at the foot of the hill (with no services) and another nicer, more public beach (Estacahuite) with a daytime restaurant, about half way to Puerto angel. A rental car would be a great asset here. The nice beaches are a bit further west—at Zipolite, San augustinillo and Mazunte.
The entire development in which Casa del Graff sits is a bit “odd.” Though it is still under development, it also seems, curiously, already in decline. The “infinity pool,” for example, lacked a foot or so of water being full to its “infinity” capacity—and though there are a toilet and shower adjacent to it, neither functioned. Also when we arrived, the wifi that we had been promised (and that was essential to my wife’s work) was not functioning. The router is actually in the house next door, which had lost power a few days before and which was not restored until the third day of our visit. Perhaps such things are better maintained in the high season. -

My wife and i and the opportunity to enjoy casa del graff for six weeks, the house is equipped with everything that you have in your own less the cold weather. The view off the ocean and morning sunrises are hard to put into words the beauty we experienced when we were there. We found the gated community complete with pool enjoyable for peace and relaxation and no worrys of strangers intruding. All though you could call a cab or walk to the main road to take a collectivo we found renting a car a nice way to explore the area and to go into town for supplies. The other people renting in the community were great to get together with and good times were had and friendships formed. Dale communicated occasionally via computer to make sure everytthing was ok which was a nice touch. Wireless internet was available however it was a hit or miss to get connected and would suggest to use the ones in the village for they are inexpensive and you do not have to lug your computer from home. Hats off to Dale and Joan for letting us share their home in paradise

The house overlooks the ocean and with a breathtaking sunrise each morning how can you not fall in love with the place.Casa del Graff is very clean and comfortable. With it's many patios the vistas are stunning. The house comes with all the amenities that you could need. The house is located just outside the small fishing village of Puerto angel. Town has two beaches and many restaurants.you can walk to town or take a taxi from the house. Mina Del angel has 24 hr security and a large infinity pool and patio to enjoy the fabulous views and incredible weather. Playa de Mina is just minutes from the gate house down a gravel path. The swimming and snorkelling are wonderful. If you are there on a Monday be sure to check out the market in Pochutla it is an experience that that you won't soon forget. There are numerous attractions minutes from the house. The turtle sanctuary at Mazunte is quite interesting and you' ll find the best guacamole at Palapa de Mazunte located right on the beach. With the many beaches in the area you will always have some where to go and many things to see. We travelled to Mexico with our two sons 15 and 14 and they had an incredible time. Each day was better than the next. It made leaving all the more difficult. Dale made the planning of our trip effortless. He answered all our questions and was eager with help and suggestions to make our stay a memorable one.If you are looking for a vacation that offers relaxation, incredible views, wonderful food, and friendly and heartwarming people look no further than Casa Del Graff. You won't regret it
