All the apartments at Torre Mar are nicely appointed and feature full kitchens with an open concept living/dining/kitchen area offering WiFi, flat screen cable TV, and A/C. The baths are finished with slate and granite. This apartment has a sleeping nook fitted with a Queen bed.

All of our apartments are nicely appointed. They offer a much more spacious accommodation than a hotel room. Each has a full kitchen complete with cooking utensils, living and dining area, and private bath. You may select from one of the two bedroom apartments or the Penthouse studio suite. The two bedroom apartments are fitted with one King bed and two double beds. The Penthouse has one Queen bed and a single sleeper sofa.
There is WiFi throughout the building. You will stay comfortable in the tropics, all the apartments are air conditioned. After a day of exploring the enchanted islands you can relax and enjoy DVDs on the flat screen TV in your island home away from home.

Short Version:
This was our first trip to South america and this was the best introduction! We highly recommend Torre Mar.
Long Version:
We (family of four) stayed here, in a two bedroom apartment for a week before our Galapagos cruise. This apartment was perfect for us, we greatly preferred it to staying in a hotel. It is a short walk to the harbor, restaurants, beautiful Tortuga Bay etc. (or taxi's are only $1 to anywhere in town).
We felt totally safe & secure staying here, and had all the comforts of home. The apartment is perfectly clean & we always had hot water right away. The wifi, TV, & air conditioning, although not necessary, all worked fine. The apartment has a private balcony, and the shared terrace on the top floor is great for a barbeque, relaxing, meeting the neighbors, & has a great panoramic view of the town. There is a laundry facility onsite, but on Donna's recommendation, we had our laundry done for $6.50 (one weeks worth of laundry for family of 4), which was a treat.
The apartment alone is great, and the owners make the experience even better. I would have saved myself a lot of research time, if I had begun by booking this place. Donna & John are a great resource for everything in Galapagos (activities, cruises, day trips etc.).
Donna emails an information package when you book. She arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport, and even though we had a last minute change in our flight time, one quick email to her, & we still had a driver. He stopped to show us some of the sites on the way to Torre Mar, which was a bonus.
Donna & John are gracious hosts. When we arrived, we went over our cruise itinerary with them & they gave us recommendations for things to do, that were not included on our cruise. They arranged two snorkeling day trips for us that were both highlights of our trip. They also gave us recommendations of excellent places to eat, and buy groceries etc. We enjoyed the food at the restaurants so much, that we used the well equipped kitchen less than we thought we would.
We are very happy we stayed here in addition to our cruise. It gave us a chance to meet some warm, friendly people, and experience the local culture. It also gave us more freedom to experience some of the Galapagos Islands at our own pace, rather than the cruise's regimented schedule. This place is also ideal for a land based vacation, as it is central to many of the attractions, and Donna & John can help you make arrangements (if you wish) according to your interests and budget.
Hopefully, we will be back to see the islands we missed, and we will definitely stay here again, only longer next time.

Awesome vacation rental convenient to everything!

My family stayed at Torre Mar for 18 days this past June and loved every minute of it! All of the amenities of home (wifi, large TV, air conditioning, large space, etc.) and best of all - a rooftop view of the beautiful port on one side and the highlands on the other. We felt right at home and Donna, John and Donovan could not have made us feel more welcome! We plan to return very soon. Staying at Torre Mar and then doing "day trips" around the islands is the very best way to see Galapagos Islands . . . .

This apartment was just perfect for me. I was traveling alone, so didn't require a lot of room, yet it is very spacious. Price is reasonable, internet access, local cell phone, 5th/top floor, keyed entry to the building. Apartment has its own patio and the view is spectacular. The owners - John & Donna are very friendly and helpful. They provided me with all necessary information. Let me put it this way: when I'll travel to Santa Cruz again - Tore Mar would me my first choice.

Donna and John (D&J;) do a nice job with this place. Before arriving they sent us alot of information on the island and pretrip necessities. They arranged a driver to pick us up from the airport and escort us every step of the way to our rental. This was $40. (side note, if you are ok by your self, there will be cabs there picking up fares and it is only $15 anywhere you want to go). D&J; offered excellent advice on things to do, see, and where to eat. They also invited us to a BBQ.
The penthouse had the perfect amount of room for us. Cozy tv area (couchs not for sleeping), kitchen big enough to make some nice dinners, table for 2, large closet, nice firm bed. Large bathroom, shower only. The balcony was the deal sealer. Very large and facing the ocean and the heart of town. The only negative was the only furniture on the balcony where two patio chairs and a small wooden table.
Torre mar is only a few blocks from the pier and main road for restaurants. Its also close to a small street they close at night and the restaurants set up tables in the street.
Laundry room is next to the building and icluded in the rental.
Warning - If you have difficulties with stairs, this is not the place for you. The penthouse is 6 flights up. -

I am late writing this review, but my feedback remains the same:
My Husband and I stayed at Torre Mar for two weeks in November 2011. We stayed in the two bedroom apartment on the second floor, which was a great size for two to four people and very comfortable.
The apartment contained everything you could have asked for from the over sized, very comfortable king bed, flat screen TV, DVD, AC in every room, fully equipped kitchen, on site laundry, walk in shower,furniture was all good quality and new, plus a very Eco-friendly environment.
The roof top patio is available for guests to use. There you will find a deluxe BBQ, very comfortable patio furniture and the most amazing panoramic view of Puerto ayora.
We enjoyed the location very much, as we were in walking distance to the main streets and the center of town. We bought our groceries from the local supermarkets, and patronized the local empanada ladies almost every evening on our return back to the apartment.
We liked the freedom this land based vacation allowed us. Our agenda was never too full or hurried and we enjoyed the Galapagos Islands at our leisure.
Donna and John are wonderful hosts: they are down-to-earth and great fun to be around.
We did not feel like guests, we felt like friends. Donovan, their 4 year old son was also a joy to see daily. Such a sweet , clever boy!! We really miss him!!
Donna and John have great knowledge of the islands,tours, restaurants, and dive sites. We found them extremely helpful.
Our two weeks were great and we had a very wonderful experience in the Galapagos.
We are seasoned travelers and would have no hesitation in recommending Torre Mar to everyone we know.

My husband, 26 yr old son and I stayed at Torre Mar December 4-10, 2011. Our 2 bedroom apartment was spacious and clean. Everything was very modern and deluxe. The master bed was king sized, unusual in Latin america, and a real treat for tall people. When we reserved the apartment, Donna, the owner, emailed us 16 pages chock full of everything you need to know for a successful vacation in the Galapagos. Travel documents, insurance, airport transfers, packing list, restaurants, spas, laundry, descriptions of activities, hikes, beaches, other islands, etc. Donna was very helpful in orienting us in Puerto ayora. We would highly recommend Torre Mar!

We were received entirely as expected with someone waiting for us in the appartment. It was very clean, very well looked after and comfortable as described. Close to the port, where most of the action is, and with cheap amd earthy restaurants nearby. Pleased with the stay.

We stayed at Torre Mar from May 10 to May 18, 2011. We had a great stay! All the comforts of home: lots of space, clean and secure, good beds and pillows, full kitchen (but we never cooked), TV (but we didn't watch), AC (we only used one day).
Owner John Garate met us when we arrived. He's super! Lots of helpful advice; he knows just about everyone and everything going on in Puerto ayora. Ask John where to eat and for sight-seeing recommendations.
We easily walked to restaurants, shops in the dock area, and to the trail to Tortuga Bay from the Torre Mar. We had breakfast twice at a little pastry shop nearby. We also walked to the Charles Darwin Research Station, a little further away, but took a taxi ride ($1) back as it's uphill to Torre Mar.
There isn't much traffic in Puerto ayora, but we did hear cars going by when we had windows open (which we prefer to aC). Ask for top floor apartment if this will bother you.
On our first walk back from the beach at Tortuga Bay (Go there! We saw a baby shark and lots of turtles. Good kayaking spot.) we talked with a young woman who had moved to the Galapagos just over a year earlier. When we told her where we were staying she said she had checked out the rental possibilites in Puerto ayora: we had made the right choice. We agree!

We used this villa as a home base for our land- based travels around the Galapagos for my husband and I and our 3 kids, ages 10,8,4. Not only was the place affordable as well as clean and pretty and stocked with everything we needed (including washer/dryer, bottled water, TV/DVD, wifi that actually worked, and a beautiful rooftop patio), but Jon lives one floor up and was available upon arrival to answer all of our questions and help connect us with resources for all of our travel needs. What's more, when we had some trouble with one of our boat rides, Jon made some calls (to his sister - his whole family works on the island) and changed our return boat tickets to a different/better boat (without additional charge) for the return. We couldn't have been more grateful for our time here and for the help and service we received when we needed it.

Torre Mar was a very reasonably priced option for seeing the Galapagos islands. Although a little on the fringes of Puerto ayora, taxis were readily available for $1 a trip--to town, to beaches, to the Darwin Research Center.
Donna provides a wealth of information for pre-planning your trip and John was available for advice on sightseeing options and recommendations.
The apartment was extremely comfortable and clean. The view from the terrace roof was awesome!
We have already recommended this property to others. We felt fortunate to be able to rent Torre Mar as our home base for a dramatic vacation and travel experience!
