Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in March 2013
The owner of this villa, Furio Valbonesi, is a long time resident of the Islands, who knows everyone in the area. He is a great chef who once owned a restaurant. Furio also built and sold a resort hotel on Santa Cruz. He is a world traveler, a great "raconteur," and a perfect host. Furio is very valuable as an advisor for the best tours to take while there and he can also arrange and provide any tours you'd like.
The villa is beautiful and fully appointed with a comfortable living room and large dining area. It is equipped with a large and complete kitchen. There are four double rooms, two on the second floor and two in a separate garden building. We had breakfast each morning outdoors under the sheltered patio outside the entrance to the first floor of the villa. The villa sleeps ten with a bunk bed on the second floor. And of course, the beautiful there's the infinity pool and convenient jacuzzi featured on the website.
The location is perfect for a group. Ten minutes away from the "hustle and bustle" of Puerto ayora by water taxi you'll find the beautiful and restful Galapagos Ocean Front Villa. Your stay at Furio's villa will be like a "party" in the Garden of Eden!

Toronto"something special"
Left on 03/25/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Words would fail to do justice to the experience we had at Furio's villa.. But in the spirit of "reviewing" to acknowledge this amazing man and his lovely home, here are the best words I have. Furios villa is perfect. My family (husband, 2 kids aged 3 and 2) and I stayed in this lovely home for 5 days. During our time there,Furio went above and beyond the terms of our contract to make us welcome, comfortable and our trip memorable. Not only did we get to sample his good home cooking, but we also got the "inside track" on how to truly experience the Galapagos from a man who Is truly passionate about his adopted home. The lady who cleaned the house daily did a great job and all of the recommendations Furio gave to us including the tours he arranged for us were exactly tailored to deliver for our family's needs ( remember 2 kids under 3). Returning "home" after a day spent exploring Santa fe island to an intimate and refreshing dip in the pool with my family is one of those prized moments forever etched in my memory. "Uncle Furio" as my kids began to call him quickly became a favorite to my boys and even gave us parents, a night off to go out on the town as he babysat them. The location of the house tucked away but yet really easily accessible to the main part of town by water taxi, was perfect. Water pressure was great in the shower, Furios coffee every morning, a very nice and unexpected touch. I would go back in a heartbeat. I likely left a little piece of my heart there.. Truly, this home made all the difference and turned a lifelong dream to see the Galapagos into a truly exquisite and memorable experience. Furio, our home here is Toronto will always have a place for you. Thank you for bring truly something special.

This review is late as I have been in mourning since leaving this magical Villa and too sad thinking of others enjoying the unique mystical wonder of this land and delightful habitation...not to mention the immense pleasure of meeting the erudite, talented and humorous owner, Furio Valbonesi...an elegant Italian who cares for everyones needs and truly extends the hand of friendship with expertise. Renting this house was the best decision I made for the four well-travelled Europeans in my party. We are unanimous in our praise for the beauty, the joy-inspiring atmosphere and true closeness to an endless variety of exquisite creatures. It is exceptional in this over 'civilized' world to find both the place and the person to formulate the perfect escape.

Furio is an exceptional host! We loved our stay here and he made us feel at home, the mansion is located perfect close to town and just a water taxi ride away. I would definitely recommend staying here instead of your usual hotel stay and is much more affordable than any hotel in town compared to the amenities you receive and the great hospitality by Furio! Definitely visiting again and will be staying here.

Moscow, IDMy magical Wedding at the Ocean Villa
Left on 11/19/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Our stay at Furio's Ocean Villa was magical! We went down with a large group of friends to celebrate our wedding ceremony and honeymoon. Furio not only played wedding planner, but also chef, event coordinator, tour guide, and especially, family. When we first arrived to the Villa, I must say that the pictures do not do it justice. It's located in Shark Bay, which is quiet and tranquil, and really felt like a private getaway all for us. The house itself is immaculate and ornate, and it felt like a little bit of Italy in the middle of the Galapagos. As a host, he is very gracious, and made sure that we felt at home. It really felt like staying with family-and I am happy to say that Furio is definitely part of our family now.
The wedding was amazing! Furio like the caring father who really wanted to make sure that everything went just the way we wanted it. Dinner and dancing followed the ceremony, where I was able to get some great shots of Furio and I tearing up the dance floor on the patio. It was magical and so much fun!
As for the rest of the trip, Furio was amazing! It was like staying with a local celebrity. Everyone seemed to know him, and he always knew where to get the best deals, or where the best food and shopping were! He made sure that all of our trips taken care of ahead of time, but was sure to get us to the right location to meet up with our guides. The trips that he booked were great! The boats were beautiful, and the food was great! Furio is great about booking trips ahead of time, but also about finding last minute deals. However, the trips you book in advance are much nicer, and worth the extra money.
At the end of it all, it was one of the best trips we've ever had. I couldn't have asked for a better host or a better place to stay. The next time we visit, it will be first to see Furio, and then to see the Galapagos. I don't think our trip would have been the same without him. He is truly part of our family now, and always will be.

Absolutely an Excellent Host well beyond our expectations. This is not a 5 Star Hotel, but easily an 8!!! Furio catered to every need and ensured the trip was perfect in every way. I travel significantly and this was Home for nearly two weeks, and I mean home. Comfort and privacy and also home like gathering place, beautiful outside area, and easy access to town. Furio, and hence his Villa, really made the trip special and easily ranks top marks with some of the places we visited. Furio ensured on every one that we were delivered to the starting point and came back with a once in a lifetime memory.
Bottom Line: This was as comfortable as just being at home in the room and yet having incredible service, personal cooking, balcony views, pool, relaxation points and all.
Definitely an OMG experience. -

We had such a fantastic trip to Galapagos. It was made even better by our host Furio Valbonesi. His home is beautiful and the views are amazing. We woke up to marine iguanas on his dock, sea lions, and blue boobies and frigate birds everywhere. Dr. Valbonesi arranged all our tours, which were beyond words...truly incredible! He also cooked homemade pizzas for us and helped arrange a birthday cake and celebration for our 6 year old daughter. We are a family of 6 and felt completely comfortable in his home. We often took his kayak out to see sea turtles in the bay. Dr. Valbonesi will help as much or as little as you like. I highly recommend that he is consulted in all aspects because his information and suggestion were invaluable to us! A perfect trip! We cannot thank Dr. Valbonesi enough!!!

floridaThe Place to Stay in the Galapagos!
Left on 07/15/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Our journey to the Galapagos began with a spectacular 5 day cruise but from the moment of our arrival at Furios spacious, stunningly beautiful Italian villa, we knew our trip would just keep getting better. Furio was a wonderful host who made us feel at home. When we arrived in Baltra, he had arranged for the transfer to Puerto ayora and then his Villa (conveniently) just minutes away from the Port. He accompanied us to the market and helped us select local food, fruit, and fish. Whether by foot, on the short 15 minute path to his villa, or by water taxi to his dock, the views were spectacular all around the Villa. The short path leads to Playa de las alemanes (3 minutes from the Villa -- and my 9 year old and husband's favorite beach) was easy to visit daily. We also enjoyed the true "infinity pool" overlooking the sea lions, marine iguanas, and from where we watched dozens of Blue Footed Boobies dive for fish alongside Pelicans and other beautiful birds. The kids (14, 12, 9), my in-laws (68, 75) , husband, and I were all smiles at and around Furio's villa. The location was perfect --it was near the town where we could pick up wine for dinner, but offered privacy from the many tourists and was a 1 minute walk to the begging of Las Griegas which is a major tourist attraction in Santa Cruz. Just behind the villa, we took a short 30 minute excursion to Las Grietas, a volcanic formed crevice with crystal clear (brackish water) that provided for swimming and snorkeling. Our short 20-30 minute trips around Furio's bay were always filled with endless sightings of sea turtles, sea lions, white tip reef sharks, spotted eagle rays, blue footed boobies, marine iguanas, Darwin's finches, mockingbirds, tigeretas, lava gulls, pelicans, and more. We took several day and half day trips, primarily arranged with assistance and advice from Furio, to Tortuga Bay, Darwin's Center, the Lava Caverns, Las Grietas, La Playa de los alemanes and the wet lands which were all a short distance from his house where we saw Giant land tortoises, etc. The best part of the trip, and the primary reason we will return is Furio -- he is a sweetheart fo a man, multilingual, and an fabulous Italian chef. In the 30 years he has called the Galapagos "home", it is clear that he has become extraordinarily knowledgeable about the islands and their people; it only takes a minute walk down the street with Furio to realize he is a "local celebrity" who has brough a beautiful piece of Italy to the Galapagos. And, he and that beautiful villa are the primary reasons we will be returning to Furio's on our next journey to the Galapagos.

Furio went out of his way many times to make us feel at home in his wonderful house and grounds. He was a wealth of knowledge about what to do and where to go in the Galapagos Islands, and assisted us often in setting up transportation. The villa was very comfortable and full of interesting paintings and artifacts. The villa was great, but Furio's presence was what really made the stay outstanding.

We loved this place!!! But the best part was Furio, the owner. He is an amazing man who knows everyone and can arrange anything you can dream up. He knows where to shop, what to see and what to do and who to do it with. His style and graciousness spills over into the design and comfort in this wonderful home. The Villa is close enough to town to accommodate all of your needs, and just far enough away to provide the serenity we needed. The meals were wonderful and there is maid service everyday. You definatly get more than you pay for. Thank You, Furio, you and your home made our stay in the Galapagoes perfect.

The views are beautiful. We enjoyed the pool everyday. It is hard to find a rental with a pool in Puerto ayora, and you definitely won't find a pool with this kind of view. The wildlife just comes up to meet you. We saw iguanas, manta rays, pelicans, boobies and sea turtles all while hanging over the negative edge of the pool.
The rooms are all very large. The kitchen is truly a chefs kitchen. Furio made sure we had everything we needed, he stayed and cooked Italian food for us and made our stay so much fun. The Villa has many artifacts from Italy as well as the islands. It is truly a remarkable place! -

Me, my husband and our 11 year old son stayed in this wonderful house for 8 days. Furio the owner is an incredible person. If you are as lucky as we were, Furio will cook for you. Every morning started with delicious coffee, fresh fruit juice, fresh fruit, eggs and toast. The best breakfast offered on Santa Cruz! We ate on tours for lunch, and then coming home from tours Furio would serve unbelievable Italian dinners. Gorgeous table set with lots of variation in gourmet dishes and great Vegetarian options for our son. Furio also booked our day tours to islands such as North Seymour to go diving and Isabella that had 'out of this world' snorkeling. Furio knows everything...best dive shop, great local artists...he spoiled us rotten. The house has great bedrooms with air conditioning, nice bathrooms, plenty of space to unpack. The pool in the front of the house is perfect to play in after a tour or for a day off. Furio's house is safe, clean, friendly, and unique. Furio's house is
10 minutes by water taxi to Santa Cruz which keeps it incredible private. We were also able to get our laundry done by Furio's assistant. Not only did we enjoy exploring the Galapagos Islands in comfort, we made a great friendship with Furio.

In the outdoors you have many things to enjoy: swimming pool (excellent for kids), jacuzzi, sauna, barbecue, you also could make your own bread in a millenary stone oven, and enjoy many water sports like: kayak, sailboat, windsurf, sodiac, etc.
The house is surounded by a endemic mangrove and in the front has its own pier.

I can't say enough about our experience at Furio's guesthouse in Porta ayora, Santa Cruz. We were a large family of 10 so being able to stay together was ideal. His home was clean and extremely comfortable. Each bedroom had an ensuite bathroom that was large and beautiful. The bedrooms were also equipped with air conditioning units which made for comfortable sleeps on hot nights. Furio stayed on the property in an adjacent building so was available to us when we needed him but provided us with privacy as well. He was on hand for fetching water taxis for early morning departures and provided us with every necessary detail needed to book our day trips to the other islands. We also hired him to cook breakfasts and dinners for us. He was an exceptional cook (he is Italian after all) and accommodated our varied tastes. I would highly recommend this option as the day trips are quite tiring and I couldn't imagine wanting to plan a meal and cook every night. We purchased some of our own groceries and went to the fish market (a must see - sea lions and pelicans enjoying the discarded guts) so Furio was happy to use what we purchased for our meals. It was easier most days having him plan and purchase the groceries however. We ate out in town one evening and invited Furio and his lovely daughter along with us as we so enjoyed thier company. I think we were unusually lucky as we arrived at a time when Furio's teenage daughter was staying with him. She was absolutely lovely and was incredibly kind to our children who immediately fell in love with her. All in all, Furio was the perfect host and I would highly recommend his home. Best of all, his dog Tornado is a gentle friend. .

Our large family of ten rented Furio's lovely house for 9 days and had an incredible time. He looked after our every need and our children had a lot of fun in the pool every night after the excursions. We got along so well with he and his daughter Lavina that we invited them to our one dinner in town.
We paid a little extra and had them cook for us which was an excellent decision as Furio (an Italian) is an amazing chef. The home has three bedrooms and a set of bunkbeds for the children. Additionally, there is a cabin that sleeps 2 more with their own bathroom. The house was clean and well decorated. It was really nice coming back every day and being together.
Furio arranged all our trips and as a former guide himself, did an excellent job ensuring we had a memorable experience. The only two requests we would make to him would be to consider an a/C unit for the 3rd floor and to have a working clothes dryer as the humidity and periodic rain made it impossible to get clothes dry.
Great experience all around! -

This trip to the Galapagos was on my husband's "most wanted" list. Having seen photos since childhood the dream of finally booking it came true this past March, 2010. It was more than we had ever expected. Our accomodations were idyllic,...sitting on a private, bay of water where sea turtles, blue-footed boobies and marine iquana were within visual reach each day. An incredible outdoor swimming pool was such a fresh relief at the end of our great exploring days. We saw so many species of animals including ...Seals, Galapagos Turtles, Shark, and Tropical Fish galore! A short path from the home we stayed in allows one to catch one of many different tour boats going to one of the many, islands of the chain.
