Washington, DCEscape it all, and with great company

As first time B&Bers;, we could not have dreamed of a more wonderful introduction to this style of travel! We stayed at Dulce Villa for three nights in early March, and are already planning to go back. Shawn and D'Arcy are thoughtful, caring and lively hosts, as well as great cooks and very knowledgeable of the local area. They brought us to the best restaurants, took us out dancing, and made delicious nachos and fresh juices.
Truthfully, we didn't stray much from the house as the pool is exquisitely situated between the house and the ocean (the pictures barely do it justice), the weather was perfect for our entire stay, and we were looking for a calm, relaxing escape. In addition, I highly recommend the tandem massage(another first!). The nearby surfing is great, and going into the small beach town of Tunco is lots of fun. You do need a car to get around (ie Shawn and D'Arcy drive you, or take a taxi, or rent a car) and the hotel is about an hour from the hotel.
Completely unrelated to Dulce Villa, but important to note: For travelers from Europe (and perhaps other places as well, but for sure not the United States) your passport must be valid at least 6 months past the date of your return from El Salvador. Unfortunately, one member of our party was turned away because her Swiss passport was going to expire this coming July (we were travelling in March), and the airline (Taca) refused to allow her on the plane. She missed out on a truly wonderful vacation! -

This year I decided to vacation on the beach and learn how to surf! My hosts picked me up at the airport and I was greeted with a smile and a hug and I felt so safe and cared for right off the start. As we drove the short distance to the B & B, they explained many cultural things and pointed out many interesting places and things to see and do. I was pleasantly surprised at how close their property was from the International airport.
My luxurious room had sliding glass doors that opened to a large covered deck and mosaic tiled pool. During the course of my stay, I enjoyed waking up to the smell of delicious homemade breakfasts. I looked forward to taking my culinary delight to one of the many outdoor sitting areas. Each area had a breathtaking view of the Ocean.Their home is positioned to view both the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
My busy, overbooked and stressful lifestyle was transformed into a time of relaxing, reflecting and regrouping.
The lower deck and sitting area was surrounded with beautiful coconut palm trees. There was a refreshing breeze gently flowing. I was able to let the sounds and smells of the ocean fill my senses as I enjoyed a seaside massage.
One of the best parts for me was the cheerful personal concern for my comfort. The hospitality and kindness extended to me was one of my most memorable traveling experiences.
I plan on gathering some friends to join me next year and include them in my return trip to this amazing "five star," B&B;. -

Our stay at Dolce Villa was such a memorable, relaxing time. Owners Shawn and D'Arcy Burke's top priority is that you have the best experience possible. We enjoyed seaside massages and facials that were amazingly relaxing. The setting couldn't be more suited for the R&R we all seem to so desperately need. The food was fantastic made with local fresh produce and our request for vegetarian meals was fully and deliciously accommodated. While the accommodations are top notch, there is a wonderful, "kick off your shoes," feel. If you'd rather experience more of the surrounding culture the Burkes offer a number of tours to round out your experience. There is also excellent surfing nearby. Thank you Shawn and D'Arcy for such a great time!

We were looking for the perfect getaway for ourselves and our daughter serving in the Peace Corps in Honduras. We found it in Dulce Villa! The sound of the ocean crashing against the rocks lulled us to sleep each night and was the perfect background music while we received organic facials and massages. The pool and terraces were pure paradise. There are lots of different seating options and levels so we could each find the perfect place to curl up and read a book or just nap in the sun. We awoke each morning to an amazing breakfast - pecan pancakes, plato tipico and incredible crepes. Shaun and D"Arcy made us feel like treasured friends and showed us the best El Salvador has to offer. They drove us to Juayua for the gastronomic fair and to ataco for great shopping. We loved watching the boats come onto the pier at Malecon and the ceviche was the best we have ever had. Our favorite meal was Shaun's nachos served at the table in the pool. Not even a crumb was left behind! The pictures cannot do it justice. You will leave feeling refreshed, pampered and blessed. We can't wait to go back!

My wife & I just traveled to this El Salvador/La Leona Beach B&B; expecting a nice place to stay based on the information we found presented online. When we got there, it was more like a 5-star/diamond resort! We were totally blown away by the stunningly beautiful location and accomodations that no previous description or photograph we saw adequately captured.
It is just like the old cliche..."You've got to see it to believe it!" We stayed a week and wished we could have stayed at least a month!
The owner/managers, Shawn and D'Arcy Burke, are real pro's in the hospitality business, they have a God given gift!
To complement the incredibly warm and sunny weather, fantastic sparkling ocean beach front location, immaculately clean, spacious and comfortable house, incredible pool, patio and grounds, we had in these two hosts, a treasure of friendly, knowledgeble, and experienced service and assistance.
They pampered us, provided for all our needs, and showed us a great time! They provided transportation to and from the airport, created wonderfully relaxing time at their house-resort, fixed wonderful meals (Shawn's nacho's are to die for), and took us around to some of the best outside dining, shopping, and attractions in the area. They knew so many of the locals it was if they were famous. We felt very secure and warmly welcome wherever we went.
Words and pictures will not do this experience justice, you will just have to find out for yourself.

Wow! Nothing can describe the three days we spent here. The ocean view and sounds of it crashing against the rocks below where amazing! This place is truly a gift from God Himself. After 10 days of hard work we were pampered like royalty. The swimming pool was relaxing and the food delicious especially the nachos served for lunch. Our daughter wanted to visit volcanoes and places in El Salvador but after a few minutes stated that this was where we should stay. In three days we never left the view of the ocean.
I would warn anyone of playing a certain card game. Let me just say that the owner is very competitive and usually wins. Actually the hosts were fantastic! The sharing of many life stories made us feel like we were family.
I would highly recommend this B&B; and hope to revisit it next year. -

Pura Vida is a Spanish phrase that literally means, "Pure Life". To me, this phrase sums up my experience at Dulce Villa because, during my time there, I was able to relax, forget all my worries, and enjoy life in its purest and most beautiful sense.
I thought I would want to travel around and see volcanoes and mountains, but as soon as we walked outside and saw the amazing view of the Pacific Ocean, I knew my parents and I were not going to leave. This little spot os truly a glimpse of heaven on earth.
We enjoyed wonderful massages and facials while listening to the waves crash against the shore. D'Arcy and Shawn cooked gourmet meals for us and became sort of like family. They were so welcoming and hospitable, we even cried as we had to say goodbye.
If you love the ocean and being pampered, I would highly suggest Dulce Villa. This was one of the best and most relaxing vacations of my life! -

Our stay at Dulce Villa was overwhelmingly beautiful, the owners make you feel like you are visiting a friend and not just a guest of theirs. I had the most relaxing massage on the terrace overlooking the ocean. The view was spectacular! While poolside, we got to see blue whales swimming in the ocean. Our stay was so enjoyable I wanted to stay longer. At night, we slept with the windows open enjoying the sounds of the ocean and a constant cool breeze. The weather was perfect every day!
I really fell in love with this place and the people. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates beauty and cleanliness. This was a great experience. -

Dulce Villa was everything I hoped for and more. If you're looking for a vacation in a tropical setting, this has it, and so much more. The hosts were fabulous, as was the food. The home is far enough away as to be "isolated" yet close enough to the city and other wonderful features of El Salvador.
