Description from the owner
A wonderful villa that is right on a beautiful beach. You walk out of the brightly colored villa, to the patio where you are served your meals, down 2 steps to the private pool, and 2 steps to a sandy beach with a palapa and 3 hammocks. What can be better than that? Gilberto and Rosa will spoil you with great food and drinks. We are located in the secure, gated community of Punta del Burro that is located halfway between La Cruz and Punta de Mita and about 30 min. from Puerto Vallarta. You will be met at the airport by Gilberto and the Suburban is yours to drive. The home is 4 bedrooms/4 1/2 baths and is perfect for couples or families.

A "one of a kind" property...
This was our second trip to Casa de las abuelas..and it will not be our last!
Amazing property..private pool is steps away from beach. The house is charming with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 private baths.
Rosa and Gilberto cook and clean, and are a lovely couple.
My idea of a vacation..no cooking...no cleaning!
Plus you get a car to drive and explore...
Best vacation spot...Run don't walk to rent this Casa...
Paradise in Mexico - what more could you ask for?
Case de Las abuelas the most amazing vacation - so much more than we expected. Much nicer than the crowded town of Puerto Vallarta, much more beautiful and relaxing, and only 30 minutes north of the main town.
The 4 bedroom 5 bath home comes with a suburban and a wonderful couple, Rosa & Gilberto, who will attend to every need. They arrive each morning and leave after dinner cleanup. You will hardly know they are there unless you need them! All meals are cooked by Rosa, but Gilberto will help cut up vegetables, etc. Gilberto attends to the fresh margaritas (or whatever you'd like) at the outside bar area, the barbecue, serves and cleans up. We'd sit under the outside palapa chatting, enjoying drinks, fresh guacamole and salsa prepared by Rosa.
After breakfast Rosa cleans all rooms, and Gilberto cleans the grounds, pool, etc. They disappear for a few hours to pick up our grocery requests for dinner, and are back about 4 or 5 to start preparing drinks, appetizers and dinner, whatever we have requested. There's a menu of choices to browse through, things like fish tacos, enchiladas, grilled chicken - but they're just suggestions. For example, one night we asked for half shrimp and half chicken enchiladas, another night barbecued fish and vegetables. They are quick to learn anything you request, even if it's not their standard mthod of cooking (such as grilled fish tacos instead of fried)! Oftentimes, there's the lovely scent of beans slow boiling on the stove with fresh herbs during the day as they are cleaning or shopping. One night we made some brownies, which Rosa and Gilberto had never experienced. We gave them a half dozen squares to take home to their kids, and as the ladies left for our after dinner powerwalk around the community we noticed Rosa really enjoying the brownies in the car right before they left. We were hoping she actually got some home for her kids :-)
The flight from OC, Calif is just 2.5 hours and direct, perfect. Gilberto met our group of 7 at the airport. We found him right away in his baseball cap (as owner Kathy Young had described). He drove us to a large grocery store about 15 minutes later and Gilberto asked us what fruit we'd like for breakfast, if we wanted beer or wine - well, we went a bit crazy and bought a load of great vegetables and fruits, fresh limes for margaritas, and whatever else looked enticing. Rosa and Gilberto had shopped earlier and had all the makings for fresh guacamole, fresh margaritas made with bags and bags of limes (yum), fish tacos, etc. The house is another 15 minutes north of the grocery store.
The men were content to read and play cards, a little frisbie, a little paddleboarding, and sometimes joined us for walks on the beach. The women played! We paddleboarded in front of the house (call adam or Veronica Finer at PacificPaddle.net, they will bring the boards right to the house, or pick you up and take you to their boat for a trip out to Tres Marias and a paddleboard trip around the island!).
We are runners and exercise enthusiasts, so we ran the streets of this small gated community each morning. The streets are cobblestone, so a little tricky at first but we maneuvered around with no problem and found some great hills to run. The guards at the gate into the community would lower and raise the chain each time we passed by - sometimes several times, then we'd do lunges in the sand and ab work on our mats. Then we took a shower and had a margarita - ha ha! We were the crazy exercise women that walked the streets introducing ourselves to all the neighbors.
The neighborhood seems to be composed of almost 100% U.S. residents, many owners live there full time. It is very safe and friendly community, doors unlocked and often left open to the fresh air day and night. Rudolfo is the nighttime shore guard that walks up and down the shoreline in front of the homes making sure all is well. We happened upon him our first night there, or rather we stumbled upon him. 4 ladies with a few too many fresh lime margaritas giggling like teenagers walking the beach. He was very friendly and warned us in Spanglish about the sharp rocks ahead.
By the way, mosquitoes love me, but I did not get one bite the entire week! A real plus for this vacation. The pool is cold but refreshing, the view is amazing, you will want to take Rosa and Gilberto home with you! I definitely give Casa de Las abuelas 5+ stars and look forward to returning very, very soon!

Great location for family
Our family of 8 adults and 3 children had an extended rendez-vous at Casa de las abuelas (House of the Grandmother) during the Christmas Week 2010. The common rooms, outdoor dining, beautifully landscaped grounds, and beach were great for us all, while the four bedrooms provided wonderful retreats so that each couple had its own space. The cook and caretaker took great care of us...the food and margaritas were great. The house comes with a van so that gave us some flexibility to explore the area, but be careful -- it is very easy just to kick back and never leave the compound and not experience the little towns along the coast or the larger city of Puerto Vallarta. We have given it a low rating for value, since we rented the property during the high season of Christmas Week and it was expensive. However, having a central place for our geographic far-flung family to get together for Christmas made us dig deep and pay the price. The only annoying part of the arrangement was to leave a tip for the caretaker and cook...$10/person/day was expected. So if it is expected, why not just roll it into the rental cost. Although we were told in advance about this arrangement, it did put a damper on the last night as we all were trying to come up with enough cash to cover that expectation plus reimbursement the wonderful husband/wife team for their expenses buying the ingredients for the food/drinks.
Response from Kathy Young - 02/15/2011
I just want to respond to the review. I am so happy that this group enjoyed their trip to Casa de las Abuelas. I'm sorry that they thought that $10 was expected. I suggest in my letter to the renters that the tip be $6 to $10 a guest, not just a flat $10. I don't include it because if the staff didn't do their normal great job, the people could tip less or whatever they want. Thanks, Kathy Young
