The Cherry tree house Queenstown
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand
Additional Location Information
The Cherry Tree House sits on a plateau 40m above the Shotover river. Beyond the river and to the north the main view is the coronet ski field 10 kms 15 minutes away.
Trelawn has a sheltered micro climate due to the Queenstown hill being the southern boundary to the property. Most guests will take a photo of the house with the huge big mountain back drop behind.
A large lawn and garden offers many places to sit and relax. The Gazebo and Jacuzzi are popular places to relax in the evening, there is a stereo in the gazebo.
A 5 minute drive will have you back in Queenstown, or if you drive across the river and head to Arrowtown 3 minutes north you will find one of New Zealands best restaurants, this being the "Gantleys" restaurant.
Trelawn Place is surrounded on 3 sides by the Shotover river, see our photos of the location. Originally this location was a gold mining claim. You can see the old miners cottage on the site, as well as the old diggings that the Chinese miners did. You are free to walk our two corgi dogs around the hill side to see the larger gold mining area, called the Sugar Loaf.
The large rose garden is used for weddings and a helicopter pad is used for whisking newly weds away for their mountain photos. Occasionally guests can be picked up from Trelawn by Helicopter for a scenic flight to Milford Sound.
The garden has featured in several NZ house and garden magazines over the years. Being keen gardeners you will see lots of colour in the hillside garden behind the house from early spring to late autumn.
The Shotover river was famous for the amount of gold that was extracted from it. Nowadays it is well know for its Jet boats. You can watch them for free from the Cherry tree house. Again look at our photos.
Nery and Michael have been hosting guests since 1978, along with this, they have enjoyed traveling to most places. With this experience they enjoy helping people with their exploration of the southern regions of the South Island.
