Amazing place to stay in the centre of Quito

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in February 2013

During our South america trip of five months we also visited Quito, Ecuador. When we were looking for a place to stay on tripadvisor, we came across the Wantara Suites of Wolfgang and andi. From the first moment we looked at their website, we knew: this is the place we are going to stay! Wolfgang got back to us via email immediately and confirmed our stay of 6 nights in the Lagarto suite. Wolfgang kindly arranged an airport transfer for us and Jamie (Canadian) was there to pick us up. From the moment we stepped into the apartment we felt right at home. The suite is beautifully renovated (Andi has been mentioned in an interior design magazine because of the house!) and even had a fire place! The kitchen was fully equipped, the bed was super-comfy, the bathroom had an amazing shower and the terrace was just amazing. It is located in the historic centre of Quito, just a few minutes walking from the sights in the old town. There are a few little shops in the same street where one can buy necessary things, a bigger supermarket is 10 minutes walking away. They also offer laundry service twice a week. We even spent an entire day in the apartment, surfing the web (free wifi), chilling on the terrace and in front of the fire place in the evening.
So, the nicest place to stay in the centre. But what makes it even better is Wolfgang and andi. They are extremely helpful in arranging things and giving hints and tips what to do in Quito and around. From there we went to Mindo (Cloud Forrest) by bus for one night and to Otavalo for just one day to do some shopping on the market. Wolfgang knows a few taxi drivers that can take you to the correct bus terminal in Quito (there is more than one terminal).
All in all, this place is a paradise in the centre of Quito. We highly recommend the Wantara Suites and will for sure come back during our next trip to Ecuador.

Un Paraíso en pleno Centro Histórico de Quito

Left on 05/14/2013 for a stay in April 2013

A comfortable and well located Home-away-from-home

Left on 04/27/2013 for a stay in April 2013

From the moment I was picked up at the airport by the English-speaking driver till the morning I had to leave, I was treated with dignity and courtesy. The owner, Wolfgang, who is tri-lingual, was very friendly, helpful and a joy to visit with.
The garden grounds are beautiful, the suite had all the amenities, including provisions for breakfast the first morning, the bed was luxurious, and the location, in the historical district, is a short walk to the La Ronda restaurant and shop area. I felt safe and secure at all times. I would recommend Wantara Suites to anyone visiting Quito. Very pleasant!

a home - nicer than home

Left on 04/26/2013 for a stay in April 2013

I sooo enjoyed my stay at Wantara in april 2013!!! It became a home away from home. I had a spacious room with office area and separate kitchen in the middle of Wolfgang and andy's most adorable paradise garden - in the heart of old town Quito! I never lit the fire in my room - it was warm enough -but liked the idea...

All in all I would never even consider a boring hotel room for a future stay in Quito. Wheter on a business or a tourist trip, I'd always choose Wantara Suites... the owners make you feel at home in Quito, they offer personal advice as well as cell phones with local numbers ... this is definitely my 'home away from home' if I ever visit Quito again, and I sure recommend a stay to everybody else...btw I have to admid that their matress is much better that my own at home :-(

I have been going to Quito for 12 years and stayed in many different places. This is the only place I will stay from now on. The location is truly stunning. The owner, Andi, is a true artist and has done an absolutely incredible job with the landscaping and decoration. There is also a beautiful view of Quito. The units are amazingly well equipped, with every kind of cooking utensil you could think of. We even grilled on their bbq! There is a wood burning fire in each unit to keep you warm. The suites are very secure, and in easy walking distance to La Ronda. It is also easy to get a taxi into the new town. The internet service is the best I've experienced in Quito and very fast. Wolfgang and andi are truly amazing - Wolfgang even got up at 2.30 in the morning to make sure we could fit all of our luggage into a cab when we were leaving for the airport. Very highly recommended.

Perfect palce to saty - wish we could move in!

Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Not only is the property more beautiful that the pictures depict, the owners, Wolfgang and andi, are fantastic hosts! Wolfgang met us upon arrival and after reviewing some housekeeping info he recommended a place for dinner and drove us the few blocks into the historic center giving us a tour along the way. We stayed in the Estrella suite and I can not say enough good things about La Estrella. The decor is well suited and there is a wood burning fireplace that we put to great use along with the fully stocked kitchen (I didn't want for any unavailable utensil while cooking). Speaking of stocked, Wolfgand had placed some bread, cheese, egg and jam in our fridge so we had something to make for breakfast given our late arrival at night.
As described, the place was cleaned during our stay with the changing of sheets as well. On top of what we expected, Wolfgang gave us a couple maps and a prepaid cell phone. He and andi exceeded all expectations!
We enjoyed Quito, but the highlight of the trip was out stay at Wantara!

Peaceful Oasis in the middle of Quito

Left on 02/24/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We began and ended our 6 week stay in Ecuador at Wantara. We appreciated the help and friendliness of Wolfgang and andi, our hosts. They provided advice on attractions, restaurants, and a driver for tours to Otavalo, Cotocachi, and Cotopaxi that were invaluable. Both of the suites we stayed in (Sol and Tortuga) were comfortable and had well supplied kitchens. We especially enjoyed meeting other travelers in the public garden area and coming back from a long day in Quito to a relaxing haven. The only thing I could have used is a slightly larger bed (personal preference). We would certainly recommend Wantara to anyone visiting Quito, and, in fact, look forward to returning there ourselves when we come back to Ecuador.

Wow Experience - My Own Lovely Casita in Spectacular Seting, Met

Left on 02/22/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Wantara was an outstanding choice for my month in Quito studying Spanish. Welcomed into a community of travelers by two terrific, personable hosts, you take the key to your own lovely accommodations with access to a soothing, beautiful green space and a spectacular view of Quito.

I stayed a month in the Lagarto Suite – a well, designed and furnished 3-level casita that met all of my needs plus those of a good friend who visited for a week.

Best of all is the opportunity to meet other travelers, gain information and possibility spark an enduring friendship. I suspected that finding a quality Spanish School would not be possible for me in Old Town and I was right about that. But the bus ride to Simon Bolivar School in Mariscal was easy and sometimes an adventure (the bus can get crowded so getting on and off requires determination!)

I also met a fellow traveler, Nick, from the UK studying Spanish and we ended up sharing a teacher and having a ball as we conjugated verbs. Nick inspired an evening cookout one night at Wantara - a special memory as people from around the world gathered together in the outside space.

Lovely surroundings are important to me and as a single, mature woman, I wanted opportunities to meet others. From the very beginning Wolfgang was responsive to my email inquiries and was there to welcome me at my midnight arrival. Andi, a force of talent with a fun spirit, delivered a vase of beautiful flowers from the garden one morning.

With maid service twice a week, laundry done on the premises, super mattress and linens and safety as a priority – Wantara delivers an extraordinary experience for those who find it. Plus if you seek a true Quito experience, you’ll want to stay in Old Town.

      Breakfast in the Garden

Left on 01/06/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Wolfgang and andi have created this magical haven within the historic center of Quito. The gardens are beautiful and it's a great place to stay if you want a day to unwind after seeing the city. All rooms are equipped with a kitchen to make your breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you choose. This property is located within walking distance of the historic center (no more than 20 minutes). If you're arriving by bus or plane, it's much easier to have Wolfgang arrange to have a car pick you up (it's more expensive but if you can't give directions in spanish, much easier) instead of taking a taxi. The only reason I'm not rating the property as 'excellent' is because it can be very difficult to find a taxi at night as most taxis aren't in that area and don't really want to go there. Always call a taxi ahead of time.

In Ecuador, Wanta suites is home!

Left on 01/02/2013 for a stay in December 2012

The hospitality of andi and Wolfgang is what makes Wanta Suites a most special place in Ecuador. They are superb hosts, always communicative, and seeking to assure a pleasant stay. All suites are tastefully appointed and clean. We traveled to Mindo, Cuenca, and Manta - yet Wantara was the one and only place that truly felt like "home". We stayed in both the Lagarto and Colibri suites - however we found the Colibri suite to be more conducive to our tastes - with a large porch and more spacious rooms and a direct access to the lovely Wantara garden. The Lagarto, while nice, was next to the street and a bit too busy for our tastes - even though it also can wow you with its charm.

My special thanks to Wolfgang for his fun personality and charm. He is a walking encyclopedia of tourist information on Ecuador.

Wantara is a great place to start your Ecuador experience, or use it as a home base as we did.

Thanks again to Wolfgang and andi.

      Beautiful apartments with brilliant hosts

Left on 11/26/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My girlfriend and I stayed in Wantara for a month while we took a Spanish class in Quito. We were a little bit worried on booking that the place looked too good to be true, but it is even better than it looks in the photos!

We stayed in the Luna suite and it was perfect for our needs. The flat was spotlessly clean, had an amazingly comfy bed, the best shower in South america and a Kitchen with everything you would find at home. The courtyard is a lovely place to relax and have a drink or two whilst looking at the well kept garden.

Furthermore andi and Wolfgang are great hosts, who both greeted us despite our late arrival time and had even stocked the fridge for breakfast on our first day. They are knowledgeable about Quito and Ecuador in general and are always willing to help.

We thoroughly enjoyed our month at Wantara and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful stay in the beautiful Colonial heart of Quito.

      Wantara wonderland

Left on 09/18/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We stayed in the Luna Suite at Wantara for a little over 3 weeks. It was our first stop in South america and we weren't sure what to expect and after our taxi took us to the entrace we were a bit nervous about our selection. However, the doors to Wantara opened and a magical oasis appeared. Andi and Wolfgang greeted us and from there on out we felt at home. The two story suite was emaculate and was furnished with anything we would have wanted. Wifi was great on the property, water was always warm, and there was plenty of clean drinking water on the property. The property was cleaned twice a week and laundry services were provided for $5 a load. The location, albeit, up a small hill, was located in the historic center of the city and a 5 minute walk to Calle de la Ronda. Great location, great people, great apartment. Felt like home and we would highly recommend it.

      Beautiful apartment & Wonderful Hosts

Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Three of us stayed here and we all loved it. Everything from our pickup at the airport to the friendliness of our hosts, Wolfgang and andy and their cat, La-la. The location is a little bit away from the centre of Quito but anyone travelling in Sth america knows how noisy it can be and being a little out of the action means you don't have that constant noise, so it's very quiet here. Also, taxis in Quito are quite cheap ($4 one way to the centre of Quito or ~$2.00 to a major supermarket) plus there's some local corner shops if you need fruit, vegetables, bread etc.

We stayed in the Luxury Estrella suite and the detail of the fittings and furnishings are just great as well as the fireplace. Loved the hot water, the coffee plunger and well, just everything.

We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if we returned to Quito. Thanks to both of you for having us!

      Amazing stay at Wantara

Left on 07/12/2012 for a stay in June 2012

I stayed one month in the Luna Suite. I found Wantara to be a great choice. Andi and Wolfgang are really nice hosts. They speak English, German and Spanish! They are available if you need anything but also you have privacy. The best of both worlds!
The garden is a lovely and serene.
I liked staying in Old Town. Wantara well located as it is just 3 blocks from La Ronda, 4 from Plaza Santa Domingo, 3 from the Trolebus (you can take for 25c and can get to La Mariscal with one easy transfer) and about 6 blocks from a good grocery store. It's on a fairly quiet residential street away from bus fumes and traffic noise. Also, there was safe in my unit.
The kitchen was really well equipped. The apartment was clean and had lots of natural light. The hot water worked really well in the shower. The wifi worked quite well too. I felt safe and secure staying there. I highly recommend!

      Peaceful Suites in Historical Centre

Left on 05/28/2012 for a stay in November 2011

Me and my husband spent 1.5 months in Wantara Suites, and had a delightful stay all the way. Yes, the place is as nice as on the website pictures: the rooms are spacious, very tasteful and fully equipped (you can even make cappuccinos in your kitchen!). Fresh flowers from the peaceful garden will welcome you upon arrival. A cleanup twice a week is included and laundry service is at 5$ a load.
Wantara is situated in the historic city centre, at walking distance from the main tourist attractions there. It also lets you experience the typical Ecuadorian “barrio” life: you will soon know the neighbours, local shops and bakeries.
Security wise the historical centre and the Panecillo area have improved enormously in the last years: during the day and at night when still busy you can walk around freely. At night best take a taxi as everywhere else in the city.
We highly recommend this place and its hospitable and generous owners for prolonged stays in Quito!

No better place for an extended, full-service stay in Quito.

Left on 05/16/2012 for a stay in October 2011

I spent three months in the Lagarto Suite with my wife and 3 month old son. We could not have asked for a better or more accommodating place. Not only do the suites live up to the pictures, but in the case of Lagarto, I would say that the pictures don't do it justice! The suites are all modern and inviting and have been furnished/equipped with great attention to detail. We arrived late on our first night and, although we were also a little resistant to the mandatory airport pickup, the service was well worth the money. We were met in the airport by the driver's wife and driven by private car direct to Wantara. Upon arrival, Wolfgang and andi had stayed up to meet us, had started a fire in our suite's fireplace, had setup a crib for our son, and had stocked the fridge with breakfast food for our first morning! Needless to say, as a frequent traveler I can hardly think of another instance of such attentive service. The warm welcome continued through the duration of our stay. Andi and Wolfgang are amazing hosts and made us feel at home throughout our time there, which included Christmas and New Year's. Wantara is in an area of Quito in which ones needs to exercise caution at night, but cabs are cheap and plentiful and the hosts can certainly help guide you/arrange transportation. This area has also greatly improved in recent years, and a newly renovated plaza in the area should help further increase security due to a greater police presence. If you are in search of great quality, suite-style accommodation in Quito, then look no further than Wantara. You will not be disappointed!

Wantara Gardens is the perfect place to stay in Quito if you plan to stay for a longer period. I rented the Luna flat for 3 months and it became my second home. The flat has everything you need - comfortable bed, good bathroom, nice views from the top floor and your own private outdoor area. The garden is beautiful and very peaceful and it is only a 10 minute walk from the heart of the historic center. Wolfgang and andy are very helpful hosts - and it's very inspiring that you can share all your trips and experiences with other lodgers and get tips and ideas for new trips. I simply can't imagine a better place to stay in Quito.

My wife and I stayed at Wantara Suites for one month. The suite we stayed in was everything we wanted and more. It was very comfortable, clean, nicely decorated, had a full kitchen, lots of hotwater, and great hosts. Andi and Wolfgang were very helpful in assisting us to plan our excursions to Otovalo, Banos, and the Galapagos, as well as local sightseeing in Quito.

We found it was a short walk to the historical center and all it's sights from Wantara. When you returned, the peaceful tranquility of the garden awaited you. One of the great things was the ability to meet fellow guests and exchange information about travelling in Ecuador.

We both would highly recommend Wantara as a great place to stay in Quito.

This apartment was excellent! It was clean, and in excellent condition and was equipped with everything we needed, including a gorgeous fireplace in the lounge room.
The apartment is in the historic area - we felt perfectly safe there, walking around at night, and it was so close to 'La Ronda' one of the best restaurant and bar strips outside of the main square. We caught taxis to the centre (Plaza Fosch) and they costed no more than $3 us, so it was so easy to get around.

The staff were so welcoming, and helped us with anything we needed!

If you want to have a great couple of hosts close by, to give you some recommendations, or just to spend time with, then andy and Wolle are that couple. If you want to have a clean and safe place to live in while you are staying in Quito, then this may be the place.

My wife and I spent 33 days at Wantara Garden Suites and had a wonderful time. I could wake up in the morning and go around the garden taking pictures of the beautiful array of flowers and plants, or just play with Lala the cat, while my wife could spend hours along with andy just talking about everything. Surrounding a beautiful and spacious garden, this suite is highly functional for kids : garden is safe, green and very well arranged : the suite dinning room and terrace overlook the garden. The owners are very helpful and nice. In a nutshell, one of the best place we stayed since we left home 13 months ago.

This dynamic duo work wonders Wolfgang and andi are the perfect hosts. Firstly our very late flight arrived 10.30 at night ,The pre arranged driver was a welcoming sight at a very busy packed Quito arrivals hall, Still waiting up for us were our hosts with a warm welcome and starter pack of drinks, and snacks for our first night/morning,There is a very handy corner shop for the basics if you need anything last miniute, The Estrella suite where we stayed is fully equipped, very comfortable & spotlessly clean. The bedroom is on the 1st floor, but the bathroom is on the ground. Just know that if you have to use the toilet at night you will wake everybody up. On those wooden floorboards you hear every creak! The newly installed cable TV is a God send on those cold nights and there is the woodburning stove if you need it - oh & good internet too. Wolfgang (A travel agent} sorted out our 8 day Galapagos Islands trip,1 day Otavalo trip, and 5 day private tour through the avenue of Volcanoes to Guayaquil all at a reasonable price, all highly recomended .Like all big cities just be aware of the neighbourhood and always use a taxi. They are very cheap and plentyful.

The perfect place for a family holiday in Quito

Left on 06/11/2011 for a stay in May 2011

From the first contact through all our stay the service was excellent, the owners did everything to make our stay comfortable way beyond expectations (helping us with geat advice on Quito and Ecuador, providing some toys for our son, shopping, etc.). The owners, Andi and Wolfgang really made us feel at home!
The place itself is beautiful - it has the charm of a colonial house yet comes with all modern amenities and an amazing garden. It's an easy walk from there to the city centre or you can take a taxi or public transport.
I can highly recommend it to families travelling with children.

When you walk through the gates of Wantara Suites, you will enter a place of beautiful gardens, birds and incredible views. The suites are exceptionally clean and beautifully decorated, with lots of wood accents. They are furnished with everything that you could possible need. The location is perfect, just a short walk to all the important places in the Old City. There are plenty of taxis and buses for further exploration. Andi and Wolfgang, the owners, are the perfect hosts-knowledgeable and caring, with great ideas for seeing the city. We stayed a week, and definitely will come back!

We loved our stay at Wantara. It was the perfect location. We were a short walk to historic areas with carriage rides, stunning cathedrals and bustling night life. We felt safe at all times, walked most places and indulged many delicous eateries. We chose the historic district so that we could get a feel of local life. Wantara provided the utmost in luxury & comfort. Our apartment was gorgeous! Three levels, soaring ceilings, beautiful design, tropical gardens, hammocks and an overall sercure feeling. Andi and Wolfgang gave great advise that saved us money and ensured that we enjoyed the best of Quito during our visit. We would actually enjoy living in this apartment for a much longer stay. Maybe next time!!

Great place to stay in the Old Town of Quito

Left on 03/21/2011 for a stay in March 2011

An oasis in the old city. Wolfgang and andi were great hosts. The apartment was immaculate and very comfortable. All the basics were provided, even wood for the stove. Gardens outside the apartment with hummingbirds, views of the winged angel guarding the city of Quito. Quiet at night but very close to everything. They are both very knowledgeable about the area and are glad to share.
Ivan was a guide I met thru Wolfgang & Andi. He was great. A lot of info I never would have gotten without him. I did two all day trips with Ivan. Everything from Orchids to Cloud Forests to Butterfly Gardens to a dirt road up a mountain to 14,800 ft. I also had him pick me up and drive me to the airport. Very reasonable. Wolfgang and andi cared about my stay and made sure I enjoyed Quito! I can't wait to stay here again.

I stayed here for 10 days while visiting Quito. Wolfgang and andi are wonderful hosts and have done an incredible job of remodeling this historic Quito property. The suites are immaculate and have wood burning stoves to keep you warm at night. The bed is comfy, with soft sheets and warm duvets. Public transportation is nearby, as well as historic sights and good restaurants.

Beautiful, peacefull place next to the historic centre of Quito

Left on 11/09/2010 for a stay in October 2010

Coming from the noisy town I entered into a calm and green patio with the athmosphere of an oasis. The garden is beautifull with the perfume of trees and flowers. The suite is completely furnished with a comfortable bed, livingroom with couch and chairs, kitchen inluding all necessary equipment, bathroom with towels.
From the convenient terrace I enjoyed the view over the Pichincha and parts of Quito historic centre.
The suite and the whole estate are lovingly decorated with plants and flowers, everything is arranged very tastefully.
Excellent service by the owners, who helped in all issues concerning my stay there.
