The Perfect Place to Stay in Quito
Left on 01/04/2013 for a stay in December 2012
This really is an incredible house and an ideal vacation rental. My family stayed here for several days and we were quite impressed by the house. Mathieu has done an incredible job fixing up the place. We were very excited after seeing the pictures on Tripadvisor and all felt the house was even more beautiful than they made it out to be. Colonial architecture and art, an outdoor courtyard with hammocks, a rooftop terrace with great views, comfortable rooms. What more could you ask for? The house is also ideally situated in the Centro Histórico just a short walk from the Plaza de la Independencia (the main plaza where the presidential palace is).
My family of 7 was quite comfortable in this 4 bedroom house. We also felt it was a much more interesting experience than staying in a hotel. Mathieu and his family made us feel very welcome upon arriving and we had fun talking with his two young sons. His wife also made us a typical Ecuadorean breakfast in the courtyard. And on top of all that it is extremely reasonably priced. -

Salo, FinlandGreat holiday in the Colonial Quito

Just wanted to drop this note to thank Mathieu again for everything he provided for us that helped us make the holiday in Quito such an enjoyable experience! The house was great, living in the old part of Quito was something very special. The driver, Umberto, was very skilful and polite, both the guides were good, we especially liked Esteban, who was knowledgeable in any topic we raised! And we also enjoyed the visits to Mathieu's restaurant, it is a very special and exciting place!

California & AustraliaThe Most amazing Place You'll Ever Stay
Left on 03/01/2012 for a stay in February 2012
I visited Quito with a buddy as my wife and I are highly considering retiring there. We stayed one week at Mathieu's house. Its like staying in a museum with all the comforts of home. The house is well furnished, very comfortable and quite beautiful. Its also in a great location, walking distance to everything, just have to get used of the altitude!
Mathieu himself, is quite the Gracious Host, is the phrase I'll use, even though of course he wasn't staying in the house with us. He's friendly, open, informative and responsive and quiet interesting to talk too.
He also owns a little cafe just a block or so away which by the way, is really really good. We had two meals there and enjoyed it quite a bit. We also stopped there a couple of times just to chat with Mattieu. The cafe itself, is the most funky (and I'm using that in the most positive way), cafe with the most character you'll find anyway. Pretty darn good combination, great food, great atmosphere, great company. What more can one ask for?
So, if you are visiting Quito, I would encourage you to get with Mattieu and stay at this most incredible house. I know you will not be disappointed whatsoever.
Literally, every time we returned from somewhere, entering the house, we both said, wow, this house is amazing. -

Monteverde, Costa RicaGreat for our family!

We stayed with our two adult children and their wives. The house was large and spacious but very cozy. It is open and there is no heat, though the Master bedroom has a fireplace (the other rooms do not). It was cool at night (sweater weather). There is an amazing view from the roof (where there is another fireplace/barbecue). Nice colonial furnishings throughout with a strongly religious theme (lots of saints and angels to watch over you). Fully stocked kitchen, reliable internet, comfortable beds, everything we needed.
We were very comfortable in the house but also walking around. The house is in the historic/colonial part of Quito and we walked easily to lots of places.
We highly recommend this house and will hope to stay here again should we find ourselves in Quito.
Even with a map, taxis got us within a block of the house and then had a hard time finding the actual door to the place. -

La Grange, ILlike living in a museum
Left on 11/12/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We just enjoyed one week at the "Casa de Carondelet" in Old Town Quito. The location is excellent, we walked to every sight in Old Town. The streets are very well lit at night and there are many police on foot, we never felt concerned for our safety. The home has been perfectly restored. The quality artwork on the walls, the furnishings and the decorating made us feel like we were in a living museum. We had use of the first floor (main living areas) and the third floor (rooftop patio with beautiful views and washing machine). Bedroom - queen bed, very comfortable, plenty of storage, lots of blankets, slept like babies - not a sound to be heard at night. Bathroom - spacious, large walk in tile shower, beautiful marble sink vanity, towels could use an upgrade. Kitchen - top quality cookware, sharp knives, nice sink and food prep areas, good lighting, large new fridge/freezer, lovely breakfast room, spigot for purified water. Living room - very cozy sofas, good size TV with plenty of us channels, charming cabinets. Outdoor patio- this is actually within the house, the one thing I'm not sure about. It is lovely on a sunny day, full of flowers and vines and birds, and authentic to the time period. But on a rainy, cold day, the house becomes rainy and cold. There is no central heat, and a couple of evenings we were chilly. Then you just snuggle up under the blankets, but it is challenging to enjoy the house on a cold night. Top floor patio is lovely and the washer worked great. Just need to hang the clothing up in the morning on a sunny day, and it is dry by mid afternoon. We had no problem with the Quito altitude. We used Mathieu's driver (Juan) for 2 out trips, he was excellent. There are 2 supermarkets a couple of blocks away, and plenty of wonderful restaurants to walk to with a wide variety of prices. Mathieu was excellent at communicating with us by e mail, and check in was quite simple. WiFi worked perfectly throughout the house.
