Description from the manager

Thunderbird Mid-century Masterpiece in Rancho Mirage is a magical combination of authentic midcentury architecture, glamorous history, and contemporary luxuries in a private guard gated retreat. This stunning midcentury modern architectural estate features 3 large bedrooms in the main house and a detached guest bungalow designed by famed modernist Howard Lapham and built in 1958. This Rancho Mirage vacation home was only the second property built in the world-renowned celebrity enclave of Thunderbird Heights. Still the home of many privacy-seeking celebrities today, former neighbors include Lucille Ball, Bing Crosby, Ginger Rogers, and Presid...Read more

      Relaxing and Peaceful!

Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in July 2011

My husband and I stayed at this private property for a long weekend with our nephew. We love midcentury and this house has great architectural details as well as interior furnishings. The pool is crystal clear and warm…there are great spots in the house and throughout the garden to just relax, read a book, or just snooze. It was so nice to stay home all weekend where we could cook, sit by the pool and eat fresh figs off the trees. Its gated and secure which is nice and close to everything you would need, as far as restaurants, grocery stores etc. We will be back! Possibly next time with more family to get use out of the cute casita that is pool side.

      Wonderful experience

Left on 01/06/2012 for a stay in December 2010

We came out for a long weekend to Rancho Mirage. It did not take us long to feel completely "at home" and settled in. The house is immaculate and no detail overlooked. The home is large, spacious, beautiful, elegent, yet very comfortable. We especially appreciated the midcentury details and art throughtout. There is the most incredible carved wood midcentury sculpture that goes from floor to ceiling that you see the moment you walk in. The location of the home made is quick and easy for shopping and all of our other outings. We hiked in the Indian Palm Canyons ( which I would recommend to everyone..waterfalls, native palm groves...gorgeous) and then came back for a nice long swim in the sparkling heated pool. I took a long nap one afternoon by the private pool and felt like I had been at a spa for an entire day! Our stay was too short...wish it had lasted a week. We will be back to Thunderbird Midcentury Masterpiece.

      Relaxing and Recuperative Getaway

Left on 01/01/2012 for a stay in May 2011

The house is beautiful. The yard is beautiful! I love the gated entry which makes it extremely private, quiet and secure. I loved browsing the shops so you can imagine I was in heaven with everything nearby…especially El Paseo! This is far better deal than the best hotel suite! I am ready to come back..have already got my bags packed!

a stunning property both inside and out

Left on 01/01/2012 for a stay in September 2011

This home is by no means a typical vacation rental home. I was unfamiliar with Thunderbird Heights and Rancho Mirage before, but now it is my favorite spot in the desert! From the moment we arrived, we felt as if we were entering a private retreat. The home itself was spacious and elegant with its chic midcentury lines and had art everywhere. It was perfectly clean when we arrived and as we entered through the front door, we were in awe of the view through the huge picture windows of the green valley below and mountains beyond. The bedrooms were spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed; the kitchen was a chef?s dream come true. There were couches and sofas everywhere which made it especially comfortable for each of us (there were 5 of us!) to have our own lounging areas. The nights were relaxing soaking in the spa and gazing at the stars above. We loved picking fresh fruit off the trees! I especially loved (as a mother) how safe and secure the area and home were. I would definitely recommend this home and plan on staying again when we can make it down from Wyoming!

      Perfect Vacation Home

Left on 01/01/2012 for a stay in January 2011

The first thing I have to say about staying at this incredible home is that we relaxed! With the warm desert air, the pool, the spa at night and the huge views - you would think you were vacationing at a fantastic hotel that was all yours! We stayed in the separate casita while our good friends stayed in the massive master bedroom. We played golf during the day and afterwards swam and had drinks by the pool. Later we barbequed and ate our dinners overlooking the twinkling city lights. It was just magical. Most mornings we would lounge around with tons of privacy, then figure out where we would go shopping. Evenings were for food, fun and watching movies on the big screens either in the family room or the master retreat. This house has it all. Next time we might even bring the kids.
