“Home from home!” I stumbled onto this place when I was driving around the island and loved how it was on the main road but yet so private! It's located 2 mins fron the beach and walking distance to shops and the resorts! The house it self is fantastic feels like home as soon as u enter! Very spacious open plan living and an amazing deck to sit out enjoying the weather n views of the mountain! Also the best passion fruit tree with fruit the size of tennis balls amazingly in a Gin and tonic! Have stayed there 3 times and will do so next time!

About Rarotonga

Surrounded by a ring of flame-colored coral that protects an enduring blue lagoon and white powdery beaches, Rarotonga is a tropical island paradise not far from New Zealand. And, even better, it doesn't have the insane prices of Bora Bora or Tahiti.

For the widest choices of accommodation available on Rarotonga, visit FlipKey.

About Rarotonga

Found in the South Pacific, just 4-hours flying time from New Zealand, Rarotonga is the largest of the Cook Islands.

A small island with big smiles, Rarotonga is just 32 kilometers in circumference and feels like a huge beach resort.

Dominated by towering volcanoes, the majority of the people live and work around the coast and in the main town of Avarua. Cook Islanders consider themselves as being a seafaring people descended from Polynesians who arrived from Tahiti 1,400 years ago.

Discovered by Captain Cook in 1773, it took a further 115 years before the 15 island chain became a British protectorate.

Rarotonga is now a popular vacation destination for New Zealanders looking for a tropical beach vacation. With the Cook Islands using the New Zealand dollar as their currency, vacationing on Rarotonga is much more affordable than other nearby destinations.

What to do

Rent a kayak or a canoe on Muri Beach for under 30 NZD for the day, and explore the tropical fish-packed lagoon by snorkeling around the coral reef on Rarotonga's best beach.

Visit Te Vara Nui Village to learn all about the history of the islanders and take in a dinner dance show that tells stories that have been passed down for generations.

Spend half a day out deep sea, fishing for marlin, sailfish, wahoo, barracuda and tuna. The conditions for catching migratory fish in the waters around Rarotonga are excellent!

Hike two hours through the rainforest to visit Papua Waterfall and swim in the natural pool. For the best experience, try to visit after a heavy rain.

Snorkel over the wreck of the New Zealand steamship Maitai SS. It struck a reef on Christmas Eve 1916 while it was stocked with Model T Fords, and they're still there, too!

Top Rarotonga travel tips

Rather than taking taxis or the island bus, rent a bicycle for your stay on Rarotonga and explore the island at your own pace.

While the resorts all serve excellent food, you can save tons of money eating like a local. Stick to small traditional eateries and you can eat well for 8 NZD. A great place to go for fresh fruit, fish, and seafood is the Punanga Nui Market on the waterfront next to Avarua.

Rarotonga is a Polynesian Island paradise with pristine beaches and clear water that offers more than just fancy resorts and over water bungalows. The people are friendly, the weather is great and Rarotonga rental properties on FlipKey can be afforded by families on a budget.

Perfect location - supreme accommodation

A perfect, new house with everything necessary to make your Rarotongan holiday easy, luxurious and very memorable. Very friendly and approachable manager. Wonderful swimming, snorkelling and kayaking in front of house. Plenty of room on the front lawn and in the house to spread out. House suitable for two families with four children or 3 couples.see more

Home away from home.

Had an awesome two weeks at this tastefully equipped holiday home. Everything we needed was at our fingertips from the fully equipped kitchen to a good nights sleep on a very comfortable bed. The owners gave us clear instructions and information that was helpful in making our holiday enjoyable. Booking went smoothly and they supplied good helpful tips of the island activities. Excellent location, walking distance to car/scooter rental, shops, restuarants, resorts, or a short drive into town. The beach is a quick stroll down the drive for viewing of stunning sunsets or a enjoy a swim at Papas swimming hole. Breakfast spent on the deck watching the island go by Rarotongan time, highly recommended. We will definitely by coming back.see more
