This is a high set beach house with beautiful ocean and spectacular mountain views. Sunrise, moonrise, and full moon are sights not to be missed. The house is set back from the road, so minimal traffic noise.
During the whale season, humpback whales are occasionally seen from the balcony. The beach in front of the house is coral, but there are sandy beaches a few meters away. Upstairs has 2 bedrooms, and balconies overlooking the ocean or the mountains, depending on your mood. Floors are made from tropical hardwood timber. The house is 20 metres from the beach. It is 3 km to popular restaurants at Muri Beach, and 500m to the local cafe. A small shop for basic needs is located less than 50m away, which is also the local bus stop. For a small extra charge, there is also a child care centre available from Monday to Friday, daytime, and night time babysitting is also available
The beach directly in front of the house consist of coral stones, with a sandy beach a further 50m away. Whales can be viewed from the balcony in the whale season July to October (if they cooperate!)

The downstairs one bedroom studio can be rented separately for $80 per night for a maximum of 2 people. The upstairs villa can be rented separately for $190 per night for up to 4 people. Combined up and downstairs is $250 per night for a maximum of 6 people for stays of less than 7 days. Stays of 7 days or more are $180 per night upstairs villa, $80 per night downstairs studio, or $220 per night for use of both upstairs villa and the downstairs studio. Rates for longer stays than 2 weeks available on request.

Hi Kelvin & Ana...We had a wonderful experience at the Matangi Moana Ocean Breeze Villa. Couldn't have asked for a more better host. The house was great for the 10 days we stayed there, my children loved it! It was very convenient for our family, especially with the Tex Mart just outside the house, whenever we needed anything for the home. Waking up to the ocean outside the house was something we still think of since we came back to australia. The deck was amazing especailly during the evening! Overall it was a fantasic experience, since it was my children's first time to the Cook Island, the house was just perfect! Anyone wanting to stay there, go for it! The best part: the view from the back of the house breathtaking & the coconut tress!

Ana and I have been staying in the studio ourselves these past few days, as we are moving house and needed a peaceful spot to relax while that was hapenning. And it has been just perfect for that!

Kelvin and his wife anna were both very accommodating. Free transfers to and from the airport were a huge bonus, and the house was fantastic. The Beach front deck was great, and the house being two stories with self-contained accommodation downstairs suited us for six people with a baby. The location was half way between town and Muri beach, but the buses were easy to catch when needed, or the provided bikes were a short ride to anything. Kelvin was fantastic with communication and was on hand for any help or advice, including providing snorkelling equipment and advice about what to do and see on the island. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this holiday home.

My wife and I just spent a wonderful month at Matangi Moana. The location of this property is superb being situated between Muri Beach and avarua. It is a quiet, safe and lovely neighborhood away from the more touristy spots. A car or motorbike is helpful but not necessary since the bus stops right out front.
As others have mentioned there are two small stores, Tex Mart and Matavera
Traders that are nearby and have the essentials. One has wine, beer and liquor.
The house has the two bedroom upper floor with two big decks (this is the one we rented) and a lower one bedroom unit that was unoccupied during our stay. One deck overlooks the gorgeous blue waters of the Pacific with
surf only meters away. The beach is coral but the sand beaches, miles of them, are only a short distance away. There is a new deck down by the beach which was great for working on our tans or just sipping wine and watching the sea and local fisherman. The rear deck looks out on the stunning mountains of Rarotonga and the view changes constantly as the mists ebb and flow around them.
The apartment had everything we needed and our hosts, Kelvin and ana, couldn't have been more helpful or attentive. They provided helpful information about the island and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The personal touch always makes such a difference and having a source of local information enriches your experience.
The villa is appropriately named and the ocean breezes served to both cool
and keep any mosquitoes at bay. In fact we never saw one at the house. If you like to walk through beautiful tropical scenery you can venture inland on a road across from the house an be surrounded by all manner of tropical vegetation and local farms. It is beautiful and serene back there.
It was great to spend time on this island with it's friendly, smiling people and watch the slower pace of life that is hard to find in our world. So if you want to get away from it all, lay back and relax, then head for Rarotonga and Matangi Moana. Drop into "island time" .Response from Matangi Moana (Ocean Breeze) - 02/24/2013

We recently spent 10 days here and had one of the most relaxing breaks for quite a long time. Kelvin's house is in a great location. It's close to Muri and its restaurants but far enough away to avoid the resort crowds, and close enough to avarua for shopping. The bus is just outside the house too which makes it easy to get around if you decide not to hire a vehicle.
It was a delight to be able to pick fresh paw paw to have with breakfast, and Kelvin even assisted with providing the necessary items for me to grate coconuts from the palms in the yard. As a host, he was attentive without being overbearing, and was a mine of information about the island and the better places to go snorkelling! I loved sitting on the mountain side balcony just watching the mists swirling around the peaks whilst having my morning cup of tea. It was great having the two balconies. If it was too windy or wet on one side, you could just move across to the other and still enjoy being outside. The house was really comfortable and easy to live in. Whether you need a place short or long term, Kelvin and ana's 2 bedroom (upstairs and 1 bedroom downstairs) house on the beach in Matavera, just 5 km from avarua could be for you. Being two-storey you get great views out to sea - to sit on the deck having plucked a pawpaw from a tree in their garden for breakfast as waves crash in is truly fabulous. And if its too windy or you want views of the mountains (perhaps the mist whisping around them as they were one day that I stayed) its also pretty magical.
For the fit you can ride a bike into town, otherwise there is a regular bus. There's a wee store out front for the basics. The house is only 4 years old and has all mod cons - phone, solar heating for water, kitchen appliances and a bed so comfy that I slept for 9 hours - no local chickens/dogs woke me!
Recommended? You bet...

We stayed in this beautiful beach house for three months during the winter season. The house is very pleasant, well-furnished and with balconies and terraces on two sides of the house, always giving the opportunity to stay outside without getting too much wind. On many occasions we benefitted from the great hospitality of the landlord. Therefore, we do not hesitate to strongly recommend this house to be your first choice of accommodation.
