Left on 05/18/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Met by Jason upon arrival we had a thorough briefing on the apartment, transport and local services. This helped reduce any settling in concerns and reinforced the ongoing support we had received from the moment we first made enquiries about the apartment.
The apartment is not big, but it is comfortable, convenient and beautifully looked after. Excellent Wi-Fi and with all the conveniences you need for city living, this is an easy stay and great to come back to after a long day sightseeing.
The apartment is in easy walking distance of all the major sights and has easy access to the Metro, good food and there is a nice little bakery around the corner.
Jason's advice is better than many hotel concierges and his assistance during the stay made it much more personal.
We would stay again if we are lucky enough to return to Paris one day.

I can't think of how our experience could have been improved. The apartment had everything we needed and the location was perfect. We walked everywhere and only had to catch the metro once (from the Eiffel tower when we were too tired to walk)! Very easy to get to from the airport(s) as well. Will stay here again when we revisit Paris, unless we happen to be 3 instead of 2 at that point... in which case we will be booking the Canal apartment!

Cool!
Glad you found our location handy for walking everywhere. Paris is a very compact city, and from us you can walk to Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Tuileries Gardens, place de la Concorde, the Champs Elysées... and just keep going!
Would be delighted to have you back, and thanks for the lovely review! :-)

The apartment was in a perfect spot - so walkable to everything. Great service, very accommodating - early check in, very weloming, including special touches. It was nice to be in more of a neighborhood and avoid the 'hotel' experience.

We have stayed in the Great apartments on a number of occasions and would not consider staying anywhere else in Paris. The apartment is beautifully and tastefully decorated , very modern and spotlessly clean. The location (it is very close to the Pompidou) is perfect, being situated right in the centre of Paris is so convenient, and we managed to walk to nearly all of the big landmarks. As great as the apartment is, the real selling point is Jason himself who goes to so much trouble to look after your every need. Whether it's the little tips he leaves for places to visit that you won't find in Time Out, to the coffee, milk, sugar and bread that always greets us on arrival, Jason really does go above and beyond and is the perfect host. Finding and apartment to rent in Paris can be a minefield with hidden charges and unreliable agents the norm, but Jason has taken the hassle out of that for us, making an already excellent value apartment priceless.

We do take our guests' comfort really seriously, and after living in Paris for over 20 years, it's always a pleasure to share our favourite spots with the people who stay with us.
I'm just really really pleased our efforts are appreciated. Paris is a magical city, and if we can help to make your time here unforgettable, then it's all worth it.

Nova Scotia, CanadaLocation, style, and service - a most enjoyable stay!
Left on 12/10/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Location and price, along with tasteful style, and the kind attentiveness that Jason gave us, all contribute to our high praise for this apartment. We stayed five nights and Jason was there to greet us when we arrived, as well as very available throughout our stay. He even followed our flight online to ensure he'd be there if there was any delay. And he had coffee ready for us upon our arrival, along with a bottle of wine!
It was the first time we searched online for an apartment and I was very leery, but Jason was very good in explaining the process and very quick in responding to our questions through e-mail prior to our arrival and during our stay. Even a month after our stay, Jason was quick in responding to a request we had.
When we first entered the apartment, I was very struck by how small it was. I had mistakenly interpreted the photos and expected a separate bedroom. Instead, the living room doubled as the bedroom and there was not enough room for a table to eat our meals on. But we managed just fine. And after all, we didn't go to Paris to dine inside our apartment. Plus, the hotel rooms available at the same price don't have a dining table either, nor do they have a stove, refrigerator, microwave, and all the accoutrements and furnishings of an apartment. And if you can find a hotel at a comparable price, it's not going to be so well located!
A small apartment, yes, but an immense improvement on a hotel room. Comfortable, practical, stylish, free wi-fi and so much more. And most of all the reassuring attention and responsiveness of Jason. We would most definitely return and we most highly recommend it.

What a wonderful experience we had. We loved staying at this great apartment. It is located in a quiet neighborhood with just ordinary people going about their daily lives. Walk out to the street and you are in the instantly in the midst of shops, bakeries, sidewalk cafes and at least two nice groceries, all within minutes of your doorstep. Yet...walk five or ten minutes and you join the hundreds (it seemed!) of other tourists seeking out the "must see" sights and treasures associated with this beautiful city. The amazing Metro and RER system is easily accessible as well.
Location, location, location!
Jason and I started emailing about 6 months before our trip. He never failed to quickly respond to my questions or to address any concerns. His advice was invaluable to the pre-planning before our departure. When we arrived at the apartment he was there to greet us and to explain how everything functioned in the apartment. Jason was just a phone call away throughout our stay and came by to see us off and to wish us a safe trip home the day we left.
Just great!Response from Jason Whittaker - 10/22/2012

I found this apartment after my hotel searches came up short for anything decently priced and in a central location. So glad we chose this place! The value is unbeatable as we definitely would have spent a lot more money for a tiny hotel room with far less amenities.
The location could not have been more convenient - close to the Metro, with the Rambuteau stop on the next street (really handy if you're out late at night!) Walking distance to the Louvre. While close to many attractions, it is also removed enough so that you're not directly in the tourist "traps." We found that the restaurants around the apartment were excellent (the lively Rue Montorgueil is a 5 minute walk away), which we could not say of many of the restaurants in the touristy areas.
Contrary to some of the previous reviews, we found the apartment to be clean and very well-kept. Not sure how long this apartment has been used for rentals, but everything still looks new! Very much appreciated the personal touch of having coffee, milk and tea available (we loved the French press so much we bought one when we got home lol!), and the wine :) It was sweltering hot when we got to Paris so it was handy to have a fridge to stash cold drinks. I was initially worried about lack of closet space, but there turned out to be two spacious closets - more than enough room. And having an iron was great (yes, I ironed on vacation)!
Lastly, it is apparent that the owners have a lot of love and pride for their apartment, and they really go out of their way to make sure you enjoy it. Jason was so accommodating and helpful, before and during our stay - what typical hotel will personally ask you how your stay is going? Thanks for everything!Response from Jason Whittaker - 09/05/2012

We can't say enough about our stay at The Great apartment. We spent 8 nights in this wonderfully-located apartment in the heart of Paris, steps away from the convenient Metro, the hidden-gem restaurants of Le Marais, and the hustle & bustle of the Centre Pompidou and Les Halles.
The apartment has everything you need and more. Fast wi-fi was an added bonus and really made for efficient planning of each day ahead. The apartment is part of a complex that is also very well-shaded, so even on some of the warmer days, the apartment always felt fairly cool and comfortable.
Jason was an excellent host and made himself available for any assistance we needed. He was even a huge help in the weeks and months leading up to the trip, using his knowledge of the city to provide some great tips and recommendations.
We would gladly recommend this apartment to any couple looking for a clean, well-located and furnished place to make their home while in Paris.
Thanks Jason and alain!

New YorkIdeal Location, but Soiled Bed Linens!
Left on 07/16/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We had a truly wonderful time in Paris again, and absolutely loved the location of the apartment as there are a few Patisseries and Monoprixes (sp?) close by, so we were able to purchase breakfast items very easily. Great boutiques (summer sales were superb), wonderful restaurants esp. in the Marais, and yes, Notre Dame and St. Michel are not worth a metro ride - just walk it. Bike rentals are on 'rue du Beaufort' (sp?); Metro also pretty close when needed.
The apartment's interior layout is small but still ultra charming! As pictured, there are lovely flowers in the window box, plants in the bathroom and we also had fresh cut flowers on our arrival (Jason scampered out 'in the rain' to get them - much appreciated). Note: there is a cool towel drying rack mechanism in the bathroom.
However, to add to a prior reviewers post, the building is under construction so we too were caught off guard by the appearance and were awakened by the construction crew once or twice - but not a deal breaker at all (we needed to get going anyway)!
The real issue for us were the soiled linens (duvet cover & extra blanket)...but as Jason did accommodate our early arrival by allowing us to drop off our suitcases in the am maybe in their clean up haste it was neglected, or maybe we were supposed to wash it ourselves... Nevertheless, we did send him a departure text stating such - no response yet.
We still highly recommend this spot as our issue/s can be rectified.Response from Jason Whittaker - 08/02/2012

Wow. That review title would definitely make me think twice about staying at the apartment. Perhaps we take comments too personally, but this I found that title vastly unfair, so here are the facts:1. It's a shame our guests didn't tell during their stay us they had an issue with the duvet cover. All guests have my mobile phone number and e-mail address, and I am five minutes away, so I could have dealt with this within the hour.2. Not only did these guests not contact me with their worries, but - importantly - neither did they say anything when I checked them out, despite me asking if everything had been OK during their stay. However, about an hour after they had left, I received a text message saying that they had found the cover and blanket 'dirty' and had not used them.3. I replied to this text message immediately. I never leave any contact message unanswered. What sort of person would?4. I personally look after washing all our linen, and it is always washed at 60°C. After searching (and I really had to search), I found a very light grey spot about half the size of a thumbnail on the duvet cover, probably a drop of coffee. I really can't accept that making the duvet cover 'soiled'. All linen in the apartment is freshly washed for guests' arrival.5. I have also closely looked at the blanket, both sides, and can't find anything on it all. I really don't understand. Either way, as I said, if I'd been contacted, it would also have been changed immediately.6. It's true we made an extra special effort to get these guests checked in early after they arrived after a long overnight flight, but we absolutely *never* skimp on cleaning. It would be pointless to rush cleaning and not have it done properly. The comment "Maybe we were supposed to wash it ourselves" is irony I don't really appreciate. We make a huge effort for all our guests, and do everything possible to make sure their stay in Paris is unforgettable.7. Renovation of our building's stairwell (not 'construction' of any kind) is reaching an end, and although I understand it not looking especially pretty for the moment, it's really out of our control, and necessary for the building's upkeep (believe me, it looked much rougher before work started). The noisiest work was finished a long time ago (basically, the only thing left to do is painting and tidying up), and our brand new double glazing cuts out the vast majority of any sound. To sum up, we have always taken the apartment's cleanliness and our guests' satisfaction very, very seriously. I obviously appreciated all the positive things said in the review, but was crushed by the review title, which I really don't feel we deserve.

GlasgowNo More Paris Hotels For Me
Left on 06/26/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I've spent many an hour trying to find a reasonably priced, boutique hotel room in Paris. The type of accommodation that seems to be in plentiful supply in cities like Lisbon and Berlin. With unappealing hotel options in Paris I had a rethink and found this absolute gem of a place. Located in the Marais (not the obvious tour guide Paris, more of an arty neighbourhood vibe) it's perfect for transport and numerous fab restaurants on your doorstep.
The apartment itself is small, there's no getting away from that but boy is it perfectly formed. Fold-down sofa bed that's obviously had some money spent on it as it's really comfy; enough storage space for two people over a long weekend; guide books, wifi and ipod dock supplied; and a micro-kitchen with everything you'd need for eggs and coffee in the morning (you'll be out sampling the amazing French food on offer the rest of the time).
Jason was a star. Answered emails in seconds and was always on time. And the complimentary bottle of bubbly went down well too...
Chuffed to think that for any future trips to Paris the Great apartment will be my default accommodation (though already recommended it to a friend so maybe I should keep my mouth shut in case I can't get booked in).

I'm sorry to write this but unfortunately we were unhappy with the apartment.
We felt that what was promised on the web site and realty are distance apart.
We discovered some enormous details that weren't mentioned, or at least weren't mentioning clear enough before booking, so we didn't get a chance to consider them before booking:
Building is under construction. Entrance, stairs and hallway are in renovation, this is not a pleasant sight. Construction men are moving around and starting their work early in the morning. Lots of garbage bins down stairs. I attach a view from the apartment's window.
The apartment turned out to be a small room.
You have to notice: the bed is a sofa. It is in good quality but still very squeaky and it's taking most of the space, so if you're not in bed you must fold it.
There are some eco friendly features like lights turning off by themselves (try it when taking a shower), automatic toilet and rough toilet paper.
Neighbors are loudly and through the thin walls you can hear almost everything.
After checking in, we found in the "apartment manual" instructions "how to deal with a problematic neighbor". Oh, and the manual also included the number of the local police station in case it gets bad.
This is not how I imagined my holiday in a luxury apartment.
Response from Jason Whittaker - 06/26/2012

This guest was our first experience of having someone completely unreasonable staying with us, after years of amazingly lovely guests. If you check our other reviews, you'll get a better opinion of the apartment, and how we treat people.
These particular guests did not bring with them the instructions for getting into the building and buzzing me upon arrival. I was 15 minutes early for our midday meet-up, but as they didn't see me in the street (?) they decided to go and drop off their rental car instead. They didn't even try to call me (they later said there was 'a problem' with their phone), but when I called them 45 minutes later (and their phone worked fine), they asked me to wait two more hours to check them in, despite the fact I had sent them an e-mail to say I wouldn't be available later on.
When I told them I couldn't wait another two hours, they suddenly managed to come back and check in 15 minutes later. They were very smiley and happy with the apartment. All seemed well.
However, the next day one of the guests sent me an e-mail saying that she was very dissatisfied, and that the apartment wasn't anything like it was advertised - which is absolutely untrue. The apartment is exactly as shown in photos, and we've never tried to hide the fact that it is a small studio with a sofabed. Trying to mislead guests would not work in our favour, and would certainly not garner the reviews we've had here.
The stairwell in our building is undergoing €1M of renovation (not 'construction') which has run late because of serious problems with the mains electricity for the building. However, this does not affect the comfort of the apartment in any meaningful way. None of the photos attached by the guests are of the apartment interior. And our toilet paper isn't cheap! Incredible...
As for the noisy neighbour, he moved out months ago, and I've now removed all mention of him. Good riddance!
I had an inkling these guests would try to get their own back - they strongly hinted they wanted a refund, which there was no reason for giving them. I'm really sorry that there were unhappy, but I feel there was absolutely no reason for such a vindictive review from them. Some people are just impossible to please unfortunately.
And as I say, if you check our other reviews, you'll get a more a reasonable idea of what the place is like, how seriously we look after it, and the deep respect we have for our guests.

We have just returned from a fabulous 3 night break in Paris staying in Jason and alain's Great apartment.
The location is excellent and was easy to find - we took the RER train from CDG to Chatelet les Halles station and it was not more than 10 minutes walk from the station. Apartment is only about 5 minutes walk from the George Pompidou Center and about 10 to 15 minutes walk to the Seine and Notre Dame so its location is perfect. Even though it is central it was extremely quiet in the apartment and I thought the sofa bed was one of the most comfortable beds that I had slept on! There are loads of cafes and restaurants in the area catering to all tastes and budgets. There is also a good supermarket nearby called G20 where you can pick up most things.
The apartment is small but it has everything you need in it. We managed to work out how to get the TV/satellite box to convert movies back into English to which was handy!
Jason was extremely helpful and friendly and I would (and have) recommend this apartment (or their larger one) to anyone wanting to visit Paris.

The location is perfect in that you can visit all the areas of Paris by walking or jumping on one of the 3 or 4 nearby Metro stations. The good things others have said about this apartment are true. Its location in the Marais but close to Chatelet-Les Halles (a major Metro/RER hub) makes it easy to get to from CDG and easy to walk or take the Metro to your destination. There's a boulangerie/pâtisserie a few doors away, a market style bistro (Au duc du Montmorency) practically downstairs, a more posh restaurant (Auberge Nicolas Flamel) across the street, and a plethora of other eating and drinking options nearby. The apartment itself is small, but thoughtfully designed so that one never feels cramped. Be aware there is no dining table and chairs; we ate breakfast and a couple of light suppers in the apartment using the trays provided, and that worked out fine. The owners' good taste is evident everywhere, so that merely being in the apartment is a pleasant experience. And for one wary, as I was, of a fold-out bed, be assured the bed is firm but very comfortable both as bed and as sofa, and it opens and closes with ease. The TV/sound/dvd and iPod dock system works well (lots of channels, if you care, including Bulgarian football if that's your thing), and the wifi is fast and flawless. And Jason is a terrific host -- he met us at the apartment as arranged, was quickly available via email (or phone), and even walked us to Chatelet-Les Halles when we departed. There is currently some renovation taking place in the building, but it did not affect our visit in the slightest and in any event should be completed soon. In short, this is a first class apartment rental and one to which we'll gladly return on our next visit to Paris (assuming we don't choose Jason and alain's other apartment instead).

Jason was a pleasure to deal with, always quick to respond to any questions we had.
The location of this apartment is perfect, with a selection of metro stations close by and many attractions to visit within a short walk. The apartment is compact but careful thought has gone into the design to make the most of the space. The bed was very comfortable, the heating worked well and the Internet was fast and reliable. The decor, fittings and appliances were all of a high standard. In setting up the apartment it is clear there has been a focus on providing a high quality environment rather than just decorating and fitting it out as cheaply as possible.
We would definitely stay here again.

This is indeed a great Paris apartment ... Great for its prime central location and peace-of-mind security. These were the two most important considerations when determining the accommodation choice for the ten days we were to spend in Paris. The affordable tariff made the booking all the more enticing and well worth the sacrifice of abundant floor space. The apartment did not disappoint. This is a stylishly appointed; functional, compact, studio apartment that uses its space wisely. Best quality furniture and accessories provide all the comforts belonging to snug contemporary lodging. The Great apartment Paris was the perfect place to rest our heads, take a shower, whip up some dinner and plan our next day's itinerary. Top this off with an incredibly helpful owner and its safe to say that The Great apartment Paris will undoubtedly be our preferred choice of accommodation when next we visit Paris. Highly recommended

A lovely apartment very close to everything. Convenient to the metro or an easy walk to most major attractions. The sofabed was very comfortable. There is a small kitchen area and a few dishes, pots & pans, but no table to eat at, so don't plan on doing much dining here. This is an apartment in a place where your neighbors get up and go to work at 8 am, so there is activity beginning early in the day. If that kind of thing bothers you, then this is not the place for you.

Thanks for the review!
Yes, people from our building do get up and go to work. Not much we can do about it, but I hope they didn't bother you too much!
And yes, the apartment isn't really meant for big dinners, but the kitchen does have all that you should need for cooking, and we're looking into getting a folding table that should make eating more comfortable. In the meantime, we supply trays for you to eat off your laps.
Glad you enjoyed your time with us!

We stayed at Jason's apartment from July 9 - 13 and would recommend it to anyone. It really felt like having your apartment in a convenient, safe, fun and quiet area of Paris from where everything was easily reachable.
My only bad experience:
Let me first say that this must have been an one-off thing. But the first night of our stay, there was loud party noise coming from what seemed like the apartment next door. My wife fell asleep and wasn't bothered by it, but I could not fall asleep due to it until after 2am when I finally fell asleep due to exhaustion. I saw at least 10 people enter the apartment next door and it sounded like there were even more inside. The police was supposed to come to deal with the noise, which they never did. And this was my only bad experience. I was worried that the rest of the stay was going to be like this, but we never heard a peep from the neighbors for the remainder of our stay.
Now the good:
The apartment is very thoughtfully done. The space is very well utilized and no light gets through the thick curtains - allowing you to sleep late into the day if you choose to do so. There are a lot of nice nuances that make the stay a very pleasant one. The sofa that turns into a bed is very comfortable to sleep in. We didn't cook, but if you want to, the kitchen is fully equipped.
The location is perfect. We took advantage of the laundromat next door, the cafe next door, the bakery a few doors down, the wine shop on the same street and a couple of super-markets very close by.
From the apartment, it takes 5 minutes to walk to the Pompidou Center, where it is so much fun to just sit on the square, eat Crepe and observe people. We walked from our apartment everywhere. I mean everywhere. Within 20 minutes are Hotel de Ville, the Seine, Notre Dame, a hoard of dining choices (there is also a cafe in the same building as the apartment). We took a long walk from the apartment to the arc de Triumph, stopping at the Louvre, Tuilleries gardens, Place de la Concorde and Champs Elysees and from there to the Eiffel Tower. On the way back, we wimped out and took the RER, but skipped the Metro and walked past Notre Dame again. Paris is too beautiful a city to be travelling underground if you have no time restrictions.
If I were to visit Paris again, I'd look first for this apartment again. The other excellent reviews are well-deserved.Response from Jason Whittaker - 08/17/2011

Thanks for the review, and glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
I suppose that one of the disadvantages of staying in an apartment (rather than a hotel) is that other people in the building go about their daily lives, and don't always worry about noise, but problems such as the one you encountered (on one night) are extremely rare, thank goodness.
It's great that you found our location handy and the apartment well appointed. The fact that you say "If I were to visit Paris again, I'd look first for this apartment again" is comforting, and flattering!
Thanks again for the honest review.

We stayed at the Great apartment for a week in June. The location is excellent, it is well appointed, and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Before we arrived we were concerned about the fold out bed, but it was very comfortable. Because it folded up there was a better feeling of space than one would experience in a hotel room. The apartment is compact but suitable for two people (and hotels in higher price brackets in Paris are equally compact). Its very conveniently located for everything you need, transport, restaurants, bar, laundry, supermarket etc.
Jason was very welcoming and informative.
There is no air-con, but the large courtyard windows should allow adequate vetilation if needed (the ambient night temperature was ok in June, so this was no problem.
Strongly recommended, and much more relaxing than a hotel.Response from Jason Whittaker - 07/15/2011

My partner and I stayed in this lovely apartment in June and it was absolutely perfect. When we arrived Jason was there to greet us, explain everything about the flat and then left us to our own devices. The flat was immaculate and is decorated fantastically. Every home comfort you could ask for is available and it truly felt like a home away from home. The location of the apartment was also a huge plus with a lovely bakery in the same street and only a 5 minute walk away from two supermarkets. Further afield, the apartment was still only approximately a 20 minute walk from both Notre Dame and La Louvre. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay, hope to stay at one of Jason's properties again in the future and would recommend this apartment to any travellers wishing to explore Paris.

I swear, I'll never stay in a hotel again. Renting this little gem was the best decision ever. I felt like I really actually lived in Paris... The building is in a super central location, very close to multiple Metro entries, in a safe & happening part of town, but still on a quiet street itself. A laundromat, pharmacy, bakery all on the street if you need! The building is quite secure as well as the apartment itself - a one floor walk-up. The safety issue was really important to me, as I was travelling alone, and I had no qualms coming & going all times of day and night. When I arrived, I saw that there was some renovation in progress in the common stairwell but it wasn't bothersome at all. (Can't wait to see it when it's done!) The place is very charming, well-appointed and eco-friendly, just as you see in the pictures and read on Jason's blog. He's thought of everything. Perfect for one or a couple. Jason was a wonderful host, welcoming and accommodating before, during and after my stay. You can't go wrong with this one!! Thanks again, Jason - I will return!!

This is a fantastic little apartment that served as a great home in Paris for us. It is not large by any means, but the size is made up for by the great layout and lots of thoughtful design touches.
What we liked:
-Location was convenient to numerous metro/RER lines and walking distance to Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Pompidou, Place Des Vosges, Hotel De Ville. We used the RER train from and to CDG airport and the nearest stop is just a 5-10 minute walk from the apartment.
-Overall the price makes it a great value compared to hotels in the area.
-Neighborhood is full of restaurants, cafes, markets, bakeries, and shopping.
-Apartment has a compact but fully functional kitchen stocked with pots, pans, etc. and also other small electric devices are here as well (iron, hair dryer, fan, heater).
-Included WiFi with a great signal.
-Flat Screen TV and stereo (though you probably will not get around to turning it on as you are in Paris).
-Style. Loved the wall paper, subway wall tile in bath, and floor tiles in kitchen/bath.
-Check in and check out was convenient as Jason worked around our flight times to see us in and out.
-Bed is a fold out couch, but we found it quite comfortable. The apartment really couldn't work any other way and we found it nice to have a living room during the day and a bedroom at night.
What we didn't like:
-Can't think of anything.

Without a doubt The Great apartment lives up to it's name. From the well thought out design and stylish accoutrements in each room to the all important comfort factor, Jason and alain have thought of everything you will need to relax after a busy day of sightseeing around Paris.
The apartment itself is compact, but nonetheless spacious. It has been meticulously designed to maximize the space. The living room/bedroom is cosy and extremely livable. The sofa bed is phenomenally comfortable, to the point of sleeping in a little too much, which kind of ate into the time we had for sightseeing... but totally worth it! The tv, sound system and free wifi were excellent, as was the lighting and the incredible mirror/heater hybrid. It blew my mind! The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and coffee and tea making facilities. Nerd alert: I must mention that they have the most amazing garlic crusher in the history of the world... Very nifty! The tiles and mountain landscape poster in the kitchen made for some very impressive photos!
The bathroom was incredibly clean and modern. The towel rack/heater was amazing! It made it very easy to deal with the brrr factor outside. The water pressure in the shower was fantastic.
Location wise, we couldn't have been in a better spot. The apartment in is the Marais which makes for some gorgeous walks, full of cafes and little boutiques everywhere. It is one minute's walk from not one, but three metro stations to get you around Paris very easily. But it is also within walking distance to a lot of amazing locations. The Pompidou Centre, Notre Dame, The Louvre are just a few well known ones. But if you enjoy walking it is so easy to walk everywhere. There are many well stocked supermarkets around the corner (including an organic grocery store). The Cafe du Montmorency downstairs is fantastic!
And last, but not least, our hosts Jason and alain were wonderful. Thank you very much! xx

Left on 12/09/2010 for a stay in November 2010
The apartment is tiny, but well laid out. We didn't spend a lot of time in the apartment other than sleeping, so size didn't matter too much. Amenities are super clean and modern, lots of TV channels, and the wi-fi is fast. Jason was extremely nice and welcoming, always accessible by e-mail or phone, and he let us check-in early and check-out late.
Best part: location! This apartment is perfectly central. The Pompidou is only 5-10 minutes away by walking, and the apartment is surrounded by Metro stations. The first day we were there, we walked from the apartment down to the Pompidou, toward Les Halles, to the Louvre, and all the way to the arc de Triomphe down the Champs Elysees. Rue Montorgueil with all sorts of restaurants and shops is nearby, too. So really, great great great location for a short touristy trip to Paris.
Worst part: Hard to pinpoint, but I guess it'd be the large amount of water that escapes from the shower. Perhaps the shower door could have a suction flap at the bottom, or a ledge could be installed there? But the bathroom floor is tiled, and it dries quickly enough. Also, in the winter, the heat sensor seems to sit right next to a cold window, while the actual heating is on the opposite side of the bedroom. So turning the heat to "20º" actually gets your room even hotter. But once we figured that out, it was a-okay.Response from Jason Whittaker - 12/09/2010
Owner
Thanks for the sweet review!
Yes, the apartment isn't big, but I'm glad you were comfortable nonetheless, and being right in the centre is - as you say - super handy for a lot of things.
Just a a few points:
The shower door: we have actually added a bar to the bottom, but inevitable some water splashes out. I'm glad to hear that the tiling meant this wasn't really a problem.
Heating: that window isn't cold! It's brand new double glazing! Even if the wall feels cold, the sensor should work as normal (you're the first to mention it actually), and of course you can set the temperature to whatever you find comfortable.
And 5-10 minutes to get to the Pompidou Centre? I think it's more like 3 minutes tops, but perhaps you were looking at all the great shops and restaurants on the way!
Thanks again for a kind, honest review.

And being right in the centre of town is extremely handy for getting around. You can do most things on foot!
Glad that you appreciated the cleanliness of the place, and thanks for taking the time to write your review :-)

This was a great little apartment. Perfect for someone traveling on their own, a couple, or two very good friends. The location couldn't have been better. Walking distance to anywhere you might want to explore with several metro options available as well. The area was lively with great bakeries, restaurants, and bars and a lot of local flavour. The apartment itself was great - clean, smartly furnished, a great use of the space (we are in Paris and apartments are small). Bigger than a hotel room with the added luxury of a stove and fridge, it was great value for the money. We were quite specific about the areas where we wanted to stay in Paris and this apartment not only met our needs, but exceeded our expectations. The flat-screen tv (we were there during the world cup) and the wifi were a definite bonus! I would not only recommend this apartment, but they would be the first ones I would call for a place to stay on my next trip.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The apartment has everything you could need, it's very clean and the location is excellent. Jason was very helpful and gave us some good recommendations for things in the area. The only downside is that the bed is a sofa bed but having said that it is very comfortable and easy to pull out and fold back. I would definitely come back and recommend to friends.

Thanks for the review!
A sofa bed was the only solution for the size of the apartment, but we invested in a quality Italian one which is specially designed for everyday use, and everyone has been amazed at how comfortable it is and easy to open and close.
Glad you had a good time with us!

The apartment is well laid out, airy and well decorated, stylish yet comfortable. The wallpaper is specially stunning. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and very tasteful. The apartment also has a great location in central Paris, on a quiet side street that is just minutes away from bakeries, cafés, shops, restaurants, the Pompidou Centre and Notre Dame. The owner welcomes you personnally with a bottle of champagne and ensures you have a great stay. Reserving this apartment is so simple online.

Thanks for the review!
Yes, our secure online booking system is a lot less hassle than some other systems that make you wire money.
And just to make things clear, although all guests do get a personal welcome from us, they don't *all* get champagne (that was a special gift for you!).
Usually though you'll find a bottle of wine waiting for you, tea and coffee, milk, some cakes fro breakfast, etc. Hope that's OK :-)
Thanks again for taking to the time to review the apartment.

The apartment was truly great, in the following ways:
- Location. It is within 10min walk to the Notre Dame and 2mins to any of the 2 train stations that will connect you to the other main attractions.
- Well stocked. Everything you could need was catered for, from clean towels, ironing board and iron, climate control heating and ipod docking station and TV. The booklets of Paris were a delight and helped us add to our itinerary.
- Lovely decor within the apartment. Loved the wallpaper and potplants which added to the ambience.
Jason was punctual in meeting us when we arrived and even provided detailed instructions on the best station to get off and make our way to the apartment. He left a lovely bottle of wine and some cakes to get us started and briefed us on how everything worked. Couldn't have asked for a better welcome and stay in Paris!Response from Jason Whittaker - 06/17/2010

Having stayed in the apartment for a week (April 2010), I can put it in simple words – the apartment is GREAT indeed. Great location, in a very fashionable and smart area, close to metro stations, excellent restaurants, bars, major attractions and shopping areas. Great facilities – modern sound and vision systems, cable TV, nice kitchen and comfy bed. Great hosts – Jason and Alain are warm, kind and will take care of anything.
Definitely great value for money and much better than any hotel you can get in Paris for this kind of money. You can actually feel like a member of a local community and not be another tourist in another boring hotel.
My stay in Paris was wonderful, and much of it was due to the great apartment. Stay there and you won't regret. I can't wait for my next visit…

Jason & Alain were wonderful hosts, from the speedy communication to meeting us at the apartment to show us around, all with a friendly attitude.
The apartment was small, as stated in the description, however the space has been used to the maximum adcantage. It is completed decked out with modern, high quality facilities - everything you need for a perfect getaway.
We loved the induction cooktop as we have one at home, the gorgeous wallpaper, the sony tv and surround sound system. The heating is great, so is the bathroom!
To top off the stay, the apartment is in the best location a visitor to Paris could hope for. Not many tourists, lots of fabulous restaurants - one right across the road, plenty of nightlife and boulangeries.... Yum!!
It was the second last stop on our Honeymoon and we are very happy with our choice.... many thanks to Jason & Alain for making our stay so fabulous... and for the bottle of organic Merlot they gave us =) It's like they knew Merlot was our favourite wine !!
We definitely recommend the apartment!

Booking the apartment was straightforward and easy,
aided by the helpful and informative communication
from Jason. We were met on arrival to be swiftly
briefed on the apartment's facilities. It's a
little smaller than we expected but proved to be
very comfortable once we got organised. The
apartment is well appointed and thoughtfully laid
out. We were initially concerned about using a fold
out bed, but it turned out to be extremely
comfortable. Location for us was ideal as viewing
the modern art at the Pompidou Centre was top of
our list. We certainly didn't have to walk far to
fill our time in Paris. Jason's blog on places to
eat made interesting reading, we can add our
recommendation for the Nicolas Flamel restaurant
across from the apartment (blink coming out the
door and you'll miss it). The only hiccup during
our stay was the neighbouring apartment on the
second night of our 3 night stay. They partied
until 5am! I think we were just unlucky as the
other 2 nights were fine. Alain checked us out at
the appointed time and we were on our way. We
thoroughly enjoyed our short time in Paris and can
recommend Jason & Alain's apartment as part of the
true Parisian experience.

That neighbour has been notified that his unsociable behaviour is unacceptable, and that the next time it happens we are calling the police. Since our little talk, there haven't been any problems, funnily enough ;-)
Glad you liked our central location. Makes getting around the city very simple indeed.
And we must get round to trying out the restaurant opposite too. Did you know that it's in the oldest building in Paris, dating from 1407? You'll often see people taking photos of it...
Anyway, thanks again.

I recently stayed in the great appartment with my boyfriend for a long weekend in February. The experience was just lovely. I booked everything completely last minute and from the moment i made my booking it was all so easy. Jason replied to me immediately and was really helpful and accomodating with sorting out all the praticalities. On arrival the appartment was as lovely as it looks in the pictures. Beautifully designed, stylish and cosy. Its compact but isn't everything in paris. The whole experience was so much better that staying in a hotel and well worth the exra cost. The area is fantastic, 20 min walk to the river, surrounded by lots of great cafes and restaurants, patisserie at the end of the road and 2min from the pompidou. We walked to most places but the metro is also only a 2 min walk away. The apartment has everything you need and is full of personal touches from jason and Alain like the paris walking books, films and a very diverse selection of music choices! The appartment is a great place to be to just relax and make breakfast and its a really central base. Jason was really friendly and lovely to us and i'd highly recommend the appartment, we'll certainly be back.

My wife and I stayed at the apartment for 2 weeks in November, 2009. It seems tiny, and it is, but it's very well designed. Reminded me of a good sailboat, with just the storage and tools we needed. There was some coffee and a bottle of milk in the refrigerator for us when we arrived. Plenty of shops--bakery, grocery, all of it--right nearby. Easy walk to the Metro, and well located for walking in general.
Jason was an excellent host, brought us bread and pastries and kindly came and switched out the linen after the first week. Thanks! We'd gladly go back!

Portsmouth, NHA perfect Paris apartment.
Left on 02/04/2010 for a stay in March 2009
Having stayed here for our first trip to Paris, I can't imagine visiting the city without this wonderful spot. It was truly a respite perfect for the single traveler or couple.
Alain and Jason put a lot of care into creating this space and their attention to detail is apparent in every aspect. Energy-efficient appliances, eco-friendly cleaning products, fair trade coffee, local guidebooks and personal recommendations on nearby restaurants and sights gave this first-time visitor the feeling of insider access to Paris.
The living room windows open over a teeming flower box. Sometimes, you can hear the sweet sounds of a cello drifting in from another apartment. There's even a bench in the enclosed courtyard where you can sit and enjoy the evening air, should the weather allow.
The kitchen is well-appointed with essentials, and a morning meal of eggs, local cheese, french press coffee and fresh baguettes is easily prepared with the tools at hand and the ingredients found nearby. It's tucked down a side street, so you will be close to everything without the noise of being in a large hotel or on a major thoroughfare. Laundry a few doors down, and convenience stores, bakeries, wine shops and cafes all within a block.
But this is Paris. You probably don't want to spend *too* much time in your accommodations, though it's easy to spend a lot of time in this apartment and nearby locations.
Walking distance to the most wonderful restaurants. Farmers markets with fresh meats and produce. A quick jaunt to the Musee Picasso, Le Pomidou, Notre Dame, Place de la Bastille, the Louvre. An easy train ride from Charles de Gaulle, and steps away from the Metro should you need to be whisked away to other parts of the city.
It was absolutely perfect. I can't wait to stay here again!Response from Jason Whittaker - 03/29/2010

Can't say that the sweet sound of the cello was us, but otherwise it's nice to know that people realise the effort we put in to the apartment.

The Great Apartment in Paris was everything we had hoped it would be. Great
location with easy transit to all parts of the city, although we walked almost
everywhere. The apartment was set up and furnished brilliantly - a great
ambiance and for a small space so comfortable. We each had closet space!!!
Jason has supplied the apartment with some interesting literature about Paris
and some great CD's to make our stay even more enjoyable. I read the
newsletter for the Hotels Rive Gauche and the Paris blog before we went and
still read it now - can hardly wait to return. The information in the newsletter
regrading arts and culture in Paris was invaluable. I have recommmended this

And the Paris Newsblog - http://goo.gl/VFNM - mainly has news about exhibitions, but also great places to visit and restaurant reviews.
We like to think that they can help you research your stay, and it's good to know that people find them useful.
Glad you appreciated the selection of CDs and DVDs in the apartment too. It's always good to have something to chill out to in the evening (instead of boring old TV)!

The apartment is stunning - the interior design is very cool. Jason and Antoine have thought of everything that you could possibly need to feel completely at home. It amazed me that such a compact space could have so many interesting bits and pieces and yet not feel at all cluttered. The location makes it so easy to get around Paris and the info about Paris at the apartment is fantastic (not the usual tourist brochures that you can get anywhere). The sofa bed is excellent and really comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The broadband is fast. Even though it's on the first floor having the tiny lift is convenient when you have luggage. The apartment is really quiet and the courtyard that it looks out on was so pretty when it snowed and the red Christmas balls in the window box really just said it all about the attention to detail and fun that Jason and Antoine put into the place. Booking the apartment was much easier that others we have booked on the internet previously. Next time we'd love to stay longer and would love to stay here again.

Glad you found the bed comfy. A lot of people are surprised how good it is after bad experiences elsewhere. We invested in a special, extra comfortable Italian sofabed designed for daily use so that people would sleep well. It's important, isn't it?
As for booking being simple, you're right that having secure online booking on our official site/blog is definitely a bonus.

Very easy to work with Jason through the internet to rent the apt. He was there to greet us, show us around the apt., and discuss some features of the location which was very helpful. The apt., although small, was spotless and beautifully furnished (including an ipod docking station). The location was a short distance from many attractions, restaurants, markets and a Metro station. We felt very safe in this neighborhood. Could use some more microwave-safe cookware, however. Janson's blog is full of great information about many Paris sites, stores, and restaurants that tourists don't usually hear about (especially Berko, the cupcake bakery!!!). We definitely recommend this apt.

Thanks for the tip about microwave-safe cookware. All the dishes and bowls in the apartment can be used in the microwave, and there are Lock 'n' Lock boxes that are fin in there too, but I'll go and get some bigger container too, just in case.
And I'm glad you felt secure in the neighbourhood. This is something that potential guests bring up sometimes before arriving, but our street is very quiet and sedate, and none of our guests have ever had a problem.

Oshawa, Ontario, CanadaNew Year in Paris
Left on 01/25/2010 for a stay in December 2009
From the fresh flowers in the room and in the balcony planters, to the 375ml 'special treat' to help celebrate New Year in the fridge, our welcome to Paris was great.
Our welcoming host met us for the earlier-than-normal check-in we had requested and got us settled very quickly.
The apartment is well located with basic amenities such as food, bread, pastries & wine (also a pharmacy) close by, and the full range of eating places within an easy walk.
Situated on the first floor (don't be put off by the traditional dark staircase and water supply pipes of older French apartment buildings) looking over the internal courtyard, the apartment is very quiet and peaceful(apart from the occassional tinkle of glass going into the recycling bins below) - a great place to unwind.
The apartment was very clean and the decor is very attractive. While small (18.5 m3?), it is quite well designed.
Criticisms? - nothing major but be prepared to mop the bathroom floor a bit after a shower - the shower door didn't seal perfectly; and be prepared to feel like a "deer in the headlights" if you decide to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and trigger the motion-sensor light switch!
Summary - a great place to stay in the heart of Paris at a reasonable price
Response from Jason Whittaker - 03/29/2010

Thanks for the review!
The renovation of the stairwell has been voted through and soon it'll look brand new.
As for the shower, some drops may get through the gap under the shower door, but there's a shower mat to catch them. And sorry if the automatic light in the bathroom surprised you at night.
I especially like your last sentence where you say that the apartment is "a great place to stay in the heart of Paris at a reasonable price". Can't argue with that!
