The secluded estate is conveniently located minutes from Woodstock Vermont and two of the best Vermont ski areas Killington and Okemo, if your looking to try both mountains Reading Farms is perfectly located directly in between both resorts! Reading Farms is located on a one mile access controlled driveway which gracefully winds through a beautiful forest to open fields. The late 18th century brick farmhouse is enhanced by 21st century additions. An old-World European influenced style courtyard entrance welcomes arrivals, with entrances to the main house, guest suites, and formal gardens. Response from the owner Thank you for your perspective Becca. This review is very similar to the one your mother Diane wrote on our facebook page. We would again like to give some background on this reservation and key points missed in your review. You and your family have been coming to Reading Farms Estate since 2014 and have returned 4 different years. The “rules" you are referring to derive from the fact your family decided to throw a Bat Mitzvah party and invite 5 additional guests to stay on the property for your event. There were no issues on our part, you just had to pay the extra guest fees which your group was not happy about paying. Your mother Diane also wanted to bring 2 untrained puppies which we allowed, and due to your calling the owner directly, we only charged our pet fee discounted by 50% since you “negotiated” as returning guests. Even though you were provided a discount your group remained unhappy you had to pay anything. Repeatedly, we tried to explain every living body has an impact, with associated overhead costs, on the property. Any dog owner knows pet urine kills the grass and has to be dug up and replanted with sod. This made no matter to you and your group. Meaning you didn’t care about any subsequent guest after your reservation and what it would take the staff to rectify the damage to the lawns. As far as the bedrooms, there are 16. Over the last two years we removed the bunk beds and made more of the rooms like suites. Yes, there are still some guest rooms that have multiple beds and you all made wonderful comments on how much nicer it was without the bunks. We are dumbfounded why suddenly 4 years later it was a problem, we noted your group of “25” certainly used and/or slept on EVERY mattress. The sheets we used in 2014 were 800 thread count, in 2018 we upgraded to 1000 thread count and in 2019 we started using Hotel Collection 1200 to present. A/C is available in advance and your parents only wished to pay for 2 in your parents spaces. When Arturo was called to ask for anything for the kitchen for your group, he woukd take it up to you. We are all allowed to say anything online about anything, true or not, cyber bullying or not. You as a college professor, I would have hoped for a more truthful comment about the staff. You slamming us hit a personal note. It was a low blow to the extremely hard working people at Reading Farms. You had nothing but exceptional things to say about Arturo the house manager over the years, you even text him 5 days in a row one winter trying to get him to meet you and your girlfriends out in Miami Beach on a girls trip. So after you run around the neighborhood in Vermont during your RFE reservation telling everyone, gloating you had rented Reading Farms Estate you can understand why your comments online are really hurtful due to it being so far from the truth and your experience. No Team member ever made you or any guest feel they were doing you a favor. We take our job very seriously and appreciate all our guests during every reservation as long as the guests are respecting the property, being transparent and understand our policies. We have heard your message loud and clear from you, your mother and family and understand how unhappy you are with the property. I hope you can all now just focus on the many happy memories your family had on the estate over the 4 years, I know you had tons of them. We were there too! Please don’t taint them as life is short. We hold no grudges or ill will from the negative reviews. I wish they would have been more fair and honest. Our response to your review needs to mention how many complimentary items were included as we were lead down the path by you and your family that you loved Reading Farms and the Team (like family) to get all the firework shows we did at no charge, sending up desserts at no charge, heating the pool to 80-90 at a “discounted” rate for your group, purchasing new yard games for your group, allowing early check in/out / Drop Off times, allowing change of date at no charge, and always having the place look impeccable for your arrival! Nonetheless we do wish you all the best going forward. Truthfully noting, our rates have increased considerably since you booked in 2019 which must be out of your budget on what you want to spend on a return RFE vacation and what likely sparked your distasteful reviews.
