This was a wonderful property in a perfect location. There was no hint of any previous dogs staying at this house - no odor, no hair, no NOTHING! And, since we keep a tidy pet ourselves, and have no trouble paying extra to take our 4-legged friend with us wherever we go, it was a real pleasure to be in such a clean dog-friendly rental. The location provided stunning Sound sunsets from the property itself as well as oceanfront vistas only a short walk away. Nature trails, a long pier with ample seating on the Sound, a little beach - everything was wonderful. Not that we needed them, but every bedroom had a television and, if I remember correctly, a VCR/DVD player and plenty of books to read. The kitchen was well appointed with just the right utensils, etc. The keyless entry was convenient and the hot tub was an extra treat along with the wireless Internet access. The ONLY reason we won't be renting this great place again is the price increase from 2007. We were there in the off season and, frankly, we could almost be in Europe on a package deal for the price we'd be paying in '08. And that's a real shame because it is a very nice pet-friendly destination. Highly recommended.

Nice location, lots of crabs. house was ok. Only problem i had with the rental home was Ants. Ants everywhere inside the house. Finally had to have my kids eat their dinner outside on the deck since the ants would be crawling up the table within a few minutes of placing the food on the table. My wife wanted to leave after the first night after getting bitten so many times by ants.

The house was laid out nice and was comfortable. The living area is not large so it was hard for 8 people to be really comfortable watching TV, etc together. Had a few issues with the dishwasher not cleaning well, old dried dog poop on the screened porch, and no contact with rental company even when I called and left a message. We did have a good time sitting at the gazebo on the sound side and the location of the house was great for going out to other places. I would probably rent this one again because the rental price was good.

Janet,

Thanks for your feedback on this home. It is in a great location for a water view isn't it? I apologize for the inconsideration of the previous guests that allowed their pet to mess on the back deck. It is stories like this that make owners wary about allowing guests to bring pets. Fortunately the vast majority of our guests with four legged friends are very considerate and make sure they clean up after their pets.
We have since your stay taken a look at the dishwasher, and did find a part that needed replacement. I apologize that we did not get the opportunity to correct this while you were here.
We look forward to serving you again in the near future!
All the best from the beach!

When we first arrived at the house, we
walked out on the private dock in the
backyard and into the little gazebo to see
the most beautiful Carolina sunset over
the sound, Coronas in hand. It truly was a
little piece of heaven. The kids spent a
lot of time on the dock during the week
catching crabs, which was a highlight for
them. The house is located literally at
just about the thinnest point of the Outer
Banks, so even though the house is located
on the sound, the walk to the beach is
very short, probably no more than a 5
minute casual stroll.

There are stores and bait shops and bars
within 1-2 miles of the house. To get to a
big chain store like Food Lion or a liquor
store, you'll have to travel 7-8 miles
either north or south. (Even though you'll
probably pass by these on your way in to
Duck off of 158, you'll probably want to
go the opposite direction - north - to
Corolla since the speed limit is faster
for most of the way, and its just about
the same distance).

The house itself was great. We cooked fish
out on the grill (there is actually a gas
grill and a charcoal grill as well), and
enjoyed the hottub throughout the week.
The weather was rainy one day during the
week, and so we had fun watching movies on
the tv (which turned out to be a good deal
larger than the picture might indicate). I
also had no problems using the wifi
connection.

The only reason we rated the house 4 stars
(I would rate the week on the whole a
solid 6 out of 5 stars!), is that as a
group there were a few minor complaints:
- One or two of the stove burners did not
work, which occasionally hampered our
cooking efforts
- The upstairs shower curtain was
described as "gross", and one of the bed
comforters had unappealing stains. This is
probably more an issue that the owner or
management should take up with the
cleaning crew.
- The beds were fairly stiff.

None of those mentioned really affected
the excellence of our vacation too much,
and I wouldn't think twice to come back.
I've stayed in a handful of houses in
Duck, and I'd say we had the most fun at
this one. Highly recommended!

Crystal,

Thanks for your review!
You will be glad to know that we replaced the shower curtain, and we corrected the stove problems (we found the burners had become loose in the socket where they sit).
We look foward to serving you again soon!
All the best from the beach!

Carolina Sunsets is the perfect rental property for those who enjoy the activity of the beach and the serenity of the Sound!

The house is just down the road from ocean, which makes it so easy to head to the beach with all of your stuff -- including the boogie boards that are already at the house! (I would caution you to bring your own beach chairs, though. The ones at the house are metal and are a bit rusty.)

The gazebo that goes out to the Sound is pretty awesome; we had a blast catching our own bluecrab dinners! Physical access to the water was limited, though, due to a broken step, which was a bummer.

Overall, I'd recommend this house to families or groups looking for a relaxing vacation!

We rented through Carolina Blue, which proved to be very helpful,
especially considering our last-minute decision to stay the week on
the Outer Banks.

A great spring getaway for a couple of winter-weary upstate New
Yorkers. Comfortable, convenient to beaches and villages. Dock and
gazebo on the sound side a prime place to catch Carolina Sunsets.

Plenty of room and conveniences here for a family. We had only the
dog, who enjoyed the break as much as we did. A good base from
which to explore the Outer Banks -- which we did. This was our first
visit and we plan to return.
