RatingRatingRatingRatingRating Cabin vacation close to local attractions, but has some issues:
Reviewed by: whitefalcon from San Diego

Lets start out with the negatives of the property:
The first thing we noticed when we first entered the cabin was a musty mildew smell in the air. We opened all the doors and windows and after a while this resolved this issue bit did impact our first impressions.
The beds were more like beds for Midgets meaning the hieght of the bed was not tall enough for a 6 foot 2 man, I was able to sleep in the bed but had to curl up to do so.
One of the doors was difficult to lock because the deadbolt was slightly misaligned. I had to open the door slightly to get the dead bolt to allign itself properly to the dead bold opening.
The pool was dirty and not suitable for swimming, this was also true of the jaquizi. There are ducks that use the pool each morning.

On the positive side:
Fireplace was large and came fully stocked with brushes, pokers etc. The room does not include wood, this must be purchased separately but can be done from Von's The wood available at Vons is Pine though so it burns fast, unlike hard wood that burns hotter and slower.
The kitchen came fully stocked with plates, pans, dishes and silverware. The refridgerator was clean and so was the oven. We brought in our own food so was able to cook many of our meals comportably here.
Room did have basic cable and a small dvd player. This was all set up and ready to go. There were no channel guides however so finding channels took some trial and error.
There is a volley ball net and a makeshift ping pong table that is in a central area for all renters to share and use.
This property had a barbeque and a table and chairs on a patio area that made it nice.
Windows were easily opened. There are two bathrooms on this property, one for each two bedroom room set.

Some helpful hints:
You will need to bring in your own trash bags or suffer fees if you forget.
The property has 4 beds total, as mentioned they are not tall but do sleep two short people compfortabley, there is a long couch that could be used to sleep on if necessary.
Because of the side issues I am giving this property two stars. It was good enough to stay at again, if I found a place that was similar with larger beds and no musty smell and a clean pool then this place would lose out to that even if it was a bit more expensive.
Staff was friendly at check in and check out and very helpful in helping one get used to the town such as theater locations and grocery stores.
Note to all stayers. There is a Von's Grocery store and Statler Brothers just down the road from the check in for the cabin on Big Bear Road, also you should check out the main town shops. At this location is two movie theaters. We went to a movie on one and found that the sound quality and picture was good, although there was a food stain on the screen.

Thank you for your response to Shore Acres Lodge Unit 104. We have just completed the renovation of this unit. It still has a queen bed-not a king. We added another bedroom with a full and a twin. We are doing major upgrades at Shore Acres. The pool is a seasonal pool. it is not open after Memorial Day. We are sorry for this confusion. We have additional trash bags at our housekeeping department and only start the unit off with a supply. We do not supply paper towels or facial tissue. We are also sorry you were led to believe that this is supplied by us. Please come and stay with us again and we will better suit your needs.

We stayed @ this property a few weeks ago with our two St. Bernards. All of us had a blast. A stones throw to the lake and set in a beautiful part of the mountain.

We highly recommend this property. We'll be back soon.

RatingRatingRatingRatingRating By far the most filthy and unsafe in Big Bear! Do not go!!!

We made our reservations via big Bear Vacation for one of the larger cabins at Shore Acres on line. Soon after a representative called to tell us that we could not have that one, which was very expensive, for less than a week and offered us #104 for three nights for well over 500 bucks, cheaper than what we’d reserved but still not cheap, he assured us it was a great property and we’d like it, so we took the change. Shouldn’t have trusted them.

We checked in at the nice lodge cabin style building in town in the afternoon. It was so nice, we had our hopes up. We decided to enjoy Big Bear for a bit before going to out cabin. Another error on our part. We did not get to the rented cabin, #104, until perhaps 9:30 PM.

The first thing we noticed was that 104 has no number on it, just a name ”Lakeview.” It took us a while to verify it was the right cabin. It has two entry doors and when we entered the left door (unlocked) the room was full of old mattresses, an old couch, trash and parts of things. It was a mess. We tried the other door, standing on a porch that was rotting with chunks of outdoor carpet sticking up, stepping in to the cabin to find a couch that smelled as if someone had died on it, stained bedding, bedding on the floor of the almost unusable closet, a dirty floor that had soft spots in it, rickety chairs, stains in the drawers of the furniture, a shower that had mildew and peeling paint and more.

The front door’s latch was mounted on broken pieces of scrap and did not really lock. The door that lead to the first room we’d entered (full of trash) had no latch plate for the lock and so anyone could walk into the cabin from either door.

Everything was filthy! Dirty, every last thin covered in stains or outright dirt! Everything smells but that couch was by far the worst. Seriously, things had to have died on it.

The toilet ran, and was made of from misfit parts from other toilets. The tank lid didn’t fit and interfered with the valve.

Worse the wiring to the “bedroom” is run on the inside wall (not in it), using interior wall grade wire, starting at the porch light, into the cabin via a hole in the wall, around the living room, stapled in place, over the fireplace (where the heat will burn it ) and pressed behind and outlet cover screwed intot he middle of the wall. It emerges in the bedroom as part of an extension cord sticking out of the wall that is then run into an outlet screwed right on the wall. Fire Hazard! There was more dubious wiring all over.

The fire extinguisher is stuffed beyond the front door unsecured, the couch (the one with dead mammal smell) was in front of the fireplace (so you won’t use it and fry the worse running on it) and a dirty cushioned chair in front of and against the wall heater, above which there is a sign telling you to keep everything three feet back. Amazing.

Did I mention filthy?

It turns out other guests mentioned that they’d never seen it rented before. It was always a store room of sorts. Too late to check out, the office in town closes, we spent a terrible night (laying in the bed, not using the dirty blanket and waiting for the sun) and escaped without showing or unpacking first thing the next day.

We called the Big Bear Vacations and they young lady was rude, telling us it was “rustic” and that people loved the property but that we were in the “cheapest cabin they had!” That was not the sales pitch we were given when told to take 104! Further she told us that she thought we were making a big deal just to get an upgrade without paying for it! We asked to speak to a manager and we’re given another woman who was nicer but by then we’d had it!

At the nice pretty lodge in town another guest came in while we were checking out and getting our credit card charged back. He’d been in #109 and stated it was filthy as well.

Shore Acres is a rotting dump that should be avoided at all cost.

This place is a disaster! It was advertised as a 1bd cabin. It is really a 2bd but the second room is used to store old couches, mattresses, etc. The second room would not lock so there was a security issue, since anyone could enter there and into the living room. There were electrical wiring code violations all over the place. The couch was in front of the fireplace, rendering it useless. A chair sat in front of the heating unit, with a sign stating that there should be at least 3 feet of clearance. Your feet sunk in various areas of the floor, leading one to believe that perhaps the foundation was unsound. This was true on the porch also. The couch smelled and the bed quilt and pillowcases had stains. The bed sagged in the middle and the mattress was covered with a plastic-like material that made you sweat. The shower stall floor and walls were peeling and mildewy. We took lots of pictures as proof, too bad we can't post them here. I'm sorry to say that it was a disgusting experience. We were looking for a nice quiet cabin by the lake and were sadly disappointed. We had booked it for 3 nights but we refused the rest of our stay and the manager was nice enough to refund us the 2 remaining nights.

Thank you for your response to Lakeview Unit 104 at Shore Acres Lodge. We are going to rennovate many (104 included) of the Shore acres units between fall and spring as they become available. The "second bedroom" you had access to was supposed to have been locked off. We will be putting in a new sofa and mattress. Please let us try to match to a better vacation spot-we have many others to offer.

After a long hot string of days in Riverside, I decided I needed a break and so did my dogs, they love the beach at Shore Acres Lodge and so do I. This place is a great place for the Whole family, dogs included. I will return again when the fast paced life in the I. E. gets me in a frazzle. Its about an hour drive from where I live, and I do like to shop in the wonderful, one of a kind stores in Big Bear, not to mention all the places to eat, some of them are also dog friendly.

This is our second time renting a cabin with Big bear rentals. We enjoyed our stay. Our issue was that the price for this particular cabin seemed a bit high, compared to our previous stay a year before.
