Terrible experience |

We visited during the East Coast heat wave in early June - temperatures in the high 90's. The central air conditioner refused to start, even to blow hot air. Clearly, its operation had not been checked before our arrival, or someone would have detected this.
The parts needed to repair it were not available locally and we spent 5 hot days and nights without AC.
To compound the problem, one of the personnel who came by to check on the AC (while we were away)left a gate open that we had previously closed and locked. As a result, our dog was attacked by a neighbor's dog and required emergency veterinary surgery.
We were offered a gift certificate for a one night stay in the future for our troubles, as though that would compensate for the unpleasant stay and a vet bill in excess of $1,000. However, even that token offering has never been sent to us.

We stayed in Black Bear Cabin, Black Mountain, NC in June 2008. Although a bit out of the way from the city, it is a wonderful retreat in the middle of the mountains. From the small creek whose gentle sound was heard as you stepped out into the second floor balcony to the cozy fireplace on the living room and outdoor whirlpool tub, this place is really a treat!!
It's nicely appointed and all the basic conveniences (fully equipped kitchen, washer & dryer, two full bathrooms and plenty of outdoor deck space) are here. Just make sure you gather up plenty of groceries & supplies for the day/week since driving to get them is a bit of a trip, so careful planning will add to the joy of your stay.
It's right next to Lake Lure and the beautiful city of Chimney Rock and its national park, which we plan to visit again.
All in all, I recommend the place for everyone who is seeking a bit of decompression from everyday life with a taste of the wonderful surroundings of the Blue Ridge Mountains! |

| I work in the vacation rental business in Gatlinburg, TN and met one of the representatives from Carolina Mornings at a conference in Myrtle Beach. I had thought of renting a place in Asheville as I visit the Biltomore quite often. However, after receiving a phone call from a long lost friend who lives in Charlotte, we decided to rent a cabin that was close to both of us. We were looking for quiet, peaceful and simple, and that is what we found at Black Bear. While the outside of the cabin needs some refinishing, the owners have obviously spent some time and effort on updating the interior, mainly the mid and upper levels. Only 2 TV's were in the house, one in the upper bedroom and one in the game room. We spent most of our time in the living room, so a flat panel TV with DVD would be a great addition. The house was comfortable and great for dogs - my friend's had a great time in the large field next door! The kitchen was well stocked with the needed cooking utensils for the one night we stayed in. All in all, we had a great stay! |

| This cabin was wonderful! The porch was great for morning coffee and romantic evenings. Just a short walk away is a great creek with huge rocks for sitting and sharing a glass of wine. A nice trail leads to a quiet little spot that is perfect for reflecting on the things that brought us together in the beginning. The cabin is in such a nice, quiet spot and is perfect for connecting with each other. We will definitely be back. |

| The most important thing to us was that we had our two young adult children and the family dog with us on this trip! Even though there are two bedrooms, there is a sleeper couch on the bottom floor. This set-up worked out great for us. Our children enjoyed the pool table and the hot tub. Also, this is a pet friendly rental. There is even a pet-door that leads out to a fenced-in area. This was convenient. Our dog could run out when he needed, and he could be out with us without us worrying about him. The only snags were the lack of sheets for the sleeper bed. We didn't realize until rather late at night that they were not there. The next day we called, and they were brought out. Also, my daughter needed the internet for school work and with what was available, she could not access what she needed. Dial-up internet service was listed as available. If this is something that you need, you might not count on it. We loved the central location to Asheville, Black Mountain, and Chimney Rock. We would definitely go back again. We were very pleased with the service provided by Carolina Mornings, and plan on utilizing them again. We really do feel that our trip might have been a a one-time only opportunity as our children will soon be graduating and starting careers. We might not have this chance again to all be together for this length of time. It was a memorable vacation to the Asheville area, and our rental of the Black Bear Cabin made it perfect. |

| We had two couples at the cabin for a weekend and it was a great time. We had a lot of fun playing pool on the brand new table that they had just put in and really enjoyed ourselves on the huge deck as well. There are some great little spots to expolore in the woods around the cabin too with a peacful creek/river running right by the end of the driveway. We would defintily go back to Black Bear Cabin anytime! |

| We had a wonderful time in the Black Bear cabin at Black Mountain - private, relaxing and we found the cabin to be very well equipped with everything we needed. The little creek and the trails around the cabin were fantastic to explore. Fishing in the creek, I found out, even though legal with a permit, doesn't go well with the neighboor(s); something I respected after being asked not to. There are plenty of other fishing spots around. Carolina Mornings provided top of the line service (thanks Debra!), and we actually ended up extending our stay with one night. That alone should reflect how satisfied we were. I would say the cabin is a bit farther from Asheville than the 20 min stated in the description, but hey - it's vacation so who cares! We'll be back! |

| As the owner of Black Bear, I am delighted to be able to share my first vacation rental to visitors of the Blue Ridge Mountains. One of my favorite aspects of Black Bear is listening to the roaring creek, sitting in the hot tub and looking up into the night sky and seeing the bright stars. Our brand new pool table has been a great hit for our recent guests and since it is a pet friendly property, I believe this a wonderful getway for all. |
