Wonderful Experience

The Island Pearl is piece of heaven. Wonderful location. You can walk anywhere in minutes. Duval Street is seconds away yet you are away from any noise or traffic. We had no car for seven days and never missed it. The owners were very helpful and warm yet the cottage had full privacy. The cottage itself was just the right size for two people; clean; well supplied and fun. Check-in and out were very easy. More...

disappointed

nice people. great pool and hot tub. shabby interior, furniture needs updating in living area. needs couch better tv and and ancient refrigerator. rug in living area needs to be replaced as well as very dirty outside chair cushions. we covered all the cushions and furniture with towels because they were so dirty. the garden area was gross. we were expecting towel garbage and toilet paper services. for the amount of money this cost we feel we overpaid. last year stayed with bone island and were so pleased. Thank you for taking the time to review our home. We appreciate your observation that the home could use updating and that is already scheduled for October 2012. A quick call to our office would have corrected dirty outdoor cushions and most guests have enjoyed the lush landscaping. Basic paper goods are supplied in all our vacation homes; replenishment during your stay would be up to you and this home has a grocery store directly across the street.

It seems like we missed the mark with matching you and this home. We would welcome the opportunity to make it up to you.

Private Getaway

This was a fourth trip to Key West and Pearl Island, thus far, has been our best place to stay. The management company was very professional and contacted us prior to check in to assure that we had no questions. The location is conveniently located for those who wish to visit Duval Street (not our priority). We liked the privacy of a small cottage in a back yard in a nice neighborhood that included a full grocery store across the street, a wonderful Chinese take-out next door, several antique stores, a jewelry store, a book store, a cool breakfast/lunch place all within a few feet. The site includes a private pool and very nice hot tub. For those who previously posted complaints about the pool and yard maintenance - it is a private location with many trees. Leaves fall constantly. If one wishes for pristine, continuous maintenance, book at the Westin. However, you forfeit privacy and the homelike availability of a kitchen, beach bag, coolers, games, books, etc. The unit is a private cottage with a nicely stocked kitchen. The ladder/stairs were easy to negotiate. The trundle bed on the ground floor was comfortable. We loved staying here and hope to do so again. More...

Perfect location!

Perfectly located for all your wants & needs. Across the street from a grocery store that carries everything from simple to gourmet (wine too). 1/2 block from a coffee shop with morning elegant pastries, a liquor store & a pizza shop. 1 1/2 blocks from Duval & 3 blocks from the waterfront bars & restaurants.
The deck around the house was our home for the week starting with coffee ending with a cigar & nightcap. 10 steps out of the house to read a book at the pool & not have to share with anyone is one of the best features.
We chose to take advantage of the grill a few nights.
Friendliness of the on-site owners is a plus.
There is really no reason to rent a car if you are staying at this property. Anything you could possible want is within a short walking distance. Walking is sometimes faster in Key West than driving.
Loved the place & we'll be back!!! More...

An okay stay...

Upon arrival, the house was a little difficult to find. We didn't realize it was a house that sat behind another one. We were under the impression that the pool and hot tub were for private use (my wife and I), but we quickly realized the pool sat between the two houses in the back yard, and could also be used by the tenant in the other house. The condition of the house was good, however the appliances were somewhat old. The location was nice, only a block and a half from Duvall street and a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. Having a grocery store right across the street was great. The only problem I had with the location was you could smell the food from the chinese restaurant next door. (If you like Chinese, I guess this could be considered a good thing!) As far as cleanliness goes, the interior of the house was great, but the exterior around the pool and hot tub looked like it was in desperate need of a good sweeping, for leaves.

We stayed in this house for our honeymoon, and it was our first trip ever to Key West. If we were to do it over again, we would have chosen something a little more quiet and secluded. I strongly advise future visitors not to drive a car, as it was very difficult to find free parking (as was mentioned by at Home in Key West). If we do make a second trip down there, we will probably pursue other housing options, with at Home in Key West. The assistance we received from the ahikw staff was wonderful! More...

Thank you for taking the time to review our home. We can understand that you didn't realize this cottage is siutated behind a needlepoint store and will be revising our description of the home on our website to add that information. The driving directions you received when retrieving keys gives detailed instructions on where the cottage is located, and we hope that helped. The pool and jacuzzi are available for your use only when you stay in this cottage. Upon investigating your dismay over others using them, we were informed that the pool was being cleaned when you arrived; other than that, no one would have use of the pool or jacuzzi during your stay.

We appreciate your kind words about At Home In Key West; we strive to exceed our guests' expectations and look forward to your next stay with us!

Great place to stay in Key West!

First, the good points of Island Pearl - which were many! The best thing about this property is the location. It is close to the action of Duval Street, just a short block and a half walk. Despite it's close proximity to Duval, the property was quiet and private. Also, there is a nice grocery store literally across the street and this was extremely convenient. And decent Chinese takeout right next door. The next best thing about Island Pearl is the private pool and hot tub. It was too hot to use the hot tub, but we used the pool daily. The ability to relax (and recover!) poolside without the presence of others was really, really nice - we even napped by the pool under the many large umbrellas that were provided! The deck wraps around the entire cottage, which was very unique, and trees gave the outdoor area a tropical feel. We met the owners a few times (as they live in the main house on the property), and they were extremely nice, friendly, and hospitable. We didn't have hot water upon arrival, and the owners quickly resolved the matter - no complaints there! The kitchen was equipped well enough to prepare meals for eating in, with pots/pans and four burners and a decent size "mini" fridge. The bathroom closet was stocked with many towels, which was appreciated.

Now for the bad points - none of which were serious. Using a ladder up and down to the bedroom wasn't ideal, but we got used to it and nobody broke a leg. There is only street pay parking available, which would be a down side for anyone needing to park a car during their stay (because it ain't cheap to park on the street, and you can only meter for up to 10 hours at a time). My only real complaint was with regard to cleanliness. The house was tidy, but not really clean. For example, dusty furniture in the bedroom and dust bunnies in the railing. I was moreso grossed out by the floor - I went into the house with wet feet, so I grabbed a towel to wipe up the water and the towel was black from the floor. Ewww. I wore flip-flops in the house for the remainder of the visit. (And this after being charged a $115 cleaning fee?!) I was also a little surprised that we had to stock our own paper products, including toilet paper.

In summary, Island Pearl is one of those "nothing fancy but everything you need" places. It could stand to be updated, but we were quite comfortable there and will definitely consider returning for future trips. The location is great, the pool is great as well as poolsite chairs and umbrellas, the hot tub is great, the owners are nice - I would just request a thorough cleaning before arriving next time. Island Pearl is recommended! More...

Thank you for taking the time to review our home. We are so glad you enjoyed it! You are correct that paying for parking in Old Town can get very expensive. There are free parking spaces within a couple of blocks of this home where you can park and leave the car until your departure; this home is so conveniently located you wouldn't need to drive anywhere during your stay. Regarding cleaning and paper products, At Home in Key West strives to exceed our guests' expectations and would have loved the opportunity to rectify these concerns during your stay; this could have been easily resolved with a quick phone call to our office. We look forward to your next visit!

honeymoon

It was the perfect place to honeymoon. Just 1 block from Duval St but quiet and private once you entered the property. The ladder looks scary in the photos but we're over 50 and it was easy to use. Dick and Julie (owners) were sweet, helpful and non intrusive. We give this 10 out of 10 stars More...

An "island of calm" amongst the bustling day/night life in old t

Our decision to stay at the Island Pearl instead of a "cookie cutter" hotel stemmed from us wanting a bit more "authentic" feel for the community and to not be just another "tourist" passing through. Our "hosts" Dick and Julie and their daughter, as well as their "four legged family" made us feel as if we were neighbors and friends. This gave us a sense of blending in with the wonderful webwork of diversity that makes up the Key West community. Dick, Julie and family live to the front of the property and run a family business from the bottom part of their home. Beautiful needleworking supplies sold there!
The conch cottage was perfect for that "getaway",secluded, private experience and offered all the warmth and ammenities of home.It was stocked with everything you need, except a trip to the gracery store, (wonderful grocery/deli right across the street)! Convenient, comfortable, quiet and relaxing in your own private oasis, this was the perfect way to stay in Key West!

Awesome, laid back vacation!

The Island Pearl is a great little rental in the perfect location. The outdoor space is fantastic. There is a gate you can shut for completely privacy to create a beautiful oasis in the heart of downtown. All of the action of Duvall and the Sunset Celebration are within easy walking distance. We used the kitchen every day and there is a nice little grocery store across the street from the property. The cottage has all the basic essentails and the outdoor space is fantastic. There is a gate you can shut for completely privacy to create a beautiful oasis in the heart of downtown. All of the action of Duvall and the Sunset Celebration are within easy walking distance.

The owners, Dick and Julie, are wonderful and welcoming but also respect their guests' privacy. They gave us a few helpful tips and it added a lot to our experience. The property has a pool that you share with the owners but they pretty much leave the outdoor space to you. They have a cute, friendly dog so if you are allergic, make sure to alert the managers prior to your visit.

The property does not have a parking spot. However, we easily found a spot a few blocks away and were able to leave our car for a week with no issues. The price was on the higher side but for the location and privacy it was worth every penny! More...

Such Privacy and Charm!

If you're looking for a tucked away, private and charming spot while in Key West, this would be for you. Situated within a block and a half or so of Duval and directly across the street from a wonderful gourmet grocery store, we were pleased to be close to the action of Duval but in a quiet, private setting.

The cottage is simply charming with private, outside space. The pool area is between the cottage and main house, where Dick and Julie, the owners, live and work. They pretty much let the pool area be "yours" during your visit. An outside grill and a hot tub is available for your use. The pool area and cottage area are fenced in which gives you the feeling of privacy and charm. There is mature vegetation surrounding the property.

Don't be surprised if their pet cat snoozes outside your door. Felt like a home away from home. Several repeat visitors signed their guest book. When heading back to Key West, I would want to stay here again. More...

Great Place

This is a really awesome place for a couple to spend a vacation. It was very clean, well kept and cozy and had great amenities. The pool was very nice as well as the hot tub. The location was great too - 1 block from the heart of Duval and across the street from Fausto's. We definitely recommend this property for rental.

The only suggestions we had (some of which may have been done by now) were getting a DVD player and internet access of some sort.

Perfect location!

We arrived a bit early, but were greeted by the owner and invited to leave our luggage while they finished up cleaning. Owners were on site and super helpful with every thing we needed. Location could not have been better--we were within steps of a ton of great restaurants and nightspots and especially shopping. Very quiet and private. We had the pool all to ourselves all week! All in all a very relaxing and wonderful stay. We can't wait to come back! More...

A true pearl

Island Pearl is a great cottage to stay in. Not the most luxurious but very decent interior. It's a real home and true Key West cottage.
Very nice owners too. Very nice jacuzi and pool. The pool is shared with the owners, but effectively you have the pool for yourselves, but it's not private, because the cottage is next to the owner's shop. At night the shop closes and you have all the privacy you need. The location of the cottage is very good also. Close to Duval Street and all the bars, shops etc.
I can recommend it without reserve. More...
