Chicago, ILGreat Place, Great Location
Left on 06/05/2013 for a stay in May 2013
My husband and I stayed here for a week and loved it! It was right downtown so you could walk to all the shops and restaurants. It's 2 seconds from a grocery store which was important to us as constantly eating out can get a bit pricey.
The place itself is beautiful - lots of light upstairs, comfortable couches. The weather did not cooperate for us to use the deck, but the deck is very large and would've been great in nicer weather. The apartment has all the amenities that you need and the bed was a memory foam mattress which was incredibly comfortable.
Sjonni was extremely nice and accommodating and check-in was very easy. The normal parking spot included was not available during our stay, so he was very generous and offered to reimburse us for any paid parking costs we had to incur. He also answered all of our questions about Iceland and would give us recommendations of where to eat, where to shop, where to see. We saw some beautiful places that we definitely would've missed had it not been for his recommendations!
Staying here was so much better than staying at hotel, you really felt like a local and it felt like home. Amazing experience, amazing place!!Response from Reykjavik-Apartments - 06/06/2013

We just got back from a week's stay in Luxury apartment following a week touring Iceland. The owner was away when we arrived, but sent us very clear instructions on how to access the key and followed up with emails when we arrived to check everything was OK. Apartment is very well equipped, with everything we needed for our stay - washing machine, dishwasher, plenty of cooking equipment as well as books, games, TV & DVD player. It was great to have the outside space too. Location is fantastic on the main shopping street - supermarkets, bakery, tourist information, restaurants all within 5 min walk and swimming pool just round the corner. Some reviews have mentioned street noise being problematic but this didn't bother us at all - in fact was quieter than at home (Brighton, UK).
We had a fantastic stay and looking forward to coming back again soon!

This place was in a great location for exploring Reykjavik on foot. It has a very large private deck for entertaining friends and the bathrooms and kitchen were very nice and well stocked. My only complaints are 1) No Parking! Once we arrived we called the host to ask about parking (which was supposed to be included) and he said that the lot was under construction so there was none. I pressed him a bit and he said that there was free parking from 10a-6p in a public lot about a block away. This ended up working out ok for us because we were gone during the day, but otherwise would not have been acceptable to us. 2) The place was advertised as "non smoking" but reeked of smoke when we arrived.

We had a great experience in renting from Sjonni - the apartment was clean, well stocked, spacious and perfectly located. Sjonni was quick to respond to all questions and very nice to deal with. We didn't have a car for the early portion of our trip and found the apartment to be near everything that we could wish for - grocery store, bars, restaurants and shopping.
One thing to note: there were a few occasions where we could smell cigarette smoke inside the house - the house itself is non-smoking but through no fault of Sjonni, maybe a neighbor smokes? It didn't bother us at all but could be bothersome if you were extremely sensitive to smoke.
All in all, I would highly recommend this home and had a wonderful vacation! -

We really enjoyed our stay in Reykjavik and found the apartment was perfectly located on the main street, with a bank machine and grocery store right across the street. The Restaurant 73, also across the street, is excellent! We are a family of 3 and had plenty of space. Nice to have a kitchen and the deck is lovely.

Sjonni and Jenny made the process of arriving and departing very smooth and acted promptly when we had a simple request. The apartment is perfectly suitable for summer or winter visits and is decorated very nicely. It accommodated us fully and enjoyably, making out first visit to Iceland a memorable one. Sjonni provided a brilliant service - and came straight back to us when we had any queries. The apartment was really good - well maintained and had very good facilities. The apartment is also very well situated in the town - and great access to everything. Friday and Saturday night can be a little noisy - but as they say, if you cannot beat them, join them! Iceland rocks!

Not only did we love Reykjavik (our first time there--clean, safe, friendly, beautiful), our trip was so much better for having rented this apartment! We have rented apartments in various locations throughout the world and this was one of the best. Sjonni and Jenny were very friendly, helpful and responsive, and finding/checking in was easy and quick. The hair dryer had apparently been accidentally packed by a prior tenant, and Jenny brought me a brand new one within about a half-hour. The apartment is in a great location right down the street from one of the best bakeries I have ever found (Sandholt)--you can get coffee, great pastries, and sandwiches there. There is also a good grocery store a couple of minutes away, and other shopping, restaurants, museums, and other places of interest within easy walking distance. The apartment is bright, sunny, well-equipped, clean, and stylish--we felt right at home. It's also cozy and warm with lots of hot water. They have forgotten no detail. We recommend this place without reservation and will definitely rent it again when we return to Reykjavik--a charming, friendly, and safe city. Thank you!!

Left on 08/31/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We have spent two weeks in the apartment with our two children (1 and 4 year old), and we couldn´t ask for a better apartment to stay in. It has everything we needed, even a mixer for the baby food!!. It is very comfortable, clean, very bright, well furnished and equiped with everything you could need for a long stay. The only minor point is that only had a shower and when you travel with children a bathtub is better.
Its location is perfect, in the center of Reykjavik, and two minutes walking to a grocery store, although it is a bit noisy during weekend nights. Parking was easy in the street (paying) and Sjonni provided us free parking near the apartment.
Sjonni attention was perfect, prompt and efficient. He helped us to prepare our travel to the south, he even found us a place to stay for that night.
We would absolutely recomend it! -

We were so happy to see our wonderful apartment when we arrived in Reykjavik. It was exactly as pictured (actually- even better than the pictures!). The bathroom with the shower was quite big. The lower level bedroom was very large and the bed was super comfortable. The deck outside was a highlight. I stood outside each day to breathe in the clean air, view the harbor and view the mountains. The apartment had everything you would need! Pots, pans, full-size refrigerator, candles, DVD player, gas stove, utensils, pot holders, etc. We all felt at home here. The apartment is in a perfect location on the major shopping street downtown. You can walk to everything- bakery, supermarket, restaurants, bank, coffeehouse, and more! The apartment was clean and neat, and well-cared for. Be careful with the staircase- it's steep and winding, but so are all the stairs in this city.
The owners were absolutely fantastic! Attentive with booking and answering questions. When we arrived, I called with a question and the owner immediately came over to help out with a few things and give me tips on sightseeing. On the day we left, out son accidentally locked us out of the apartment with all of our luggages inside (and the key inside too). We were due to leave in 10 minutes for the airport. I called the owner and he immediately came over to help us without question! I was so grateful!
I truly can't say enough wonderful things about the apartment and the owners! I am a "tough" critic and can easily say that I would stay here again. -

The service through Sjonni was prompt and uncomplicated.
The home was as gorgeous as in the pictures.
The location was a lot quieter than we thought it would be.
We liked the free delivery of "Frettabladid" as our wake-up-call at 5.50 a.m., as we had to get up early. For tourists who want to sleep in, we recommend a note on the door not to throw the newspaper in:-)
We felt very much at home and we will come back!

We couldn't have asked for a better apartment in which to spend New Year's Eve in Reykjavik. The apartment is very centrally located, and my friend and I were able to walk to absolutely everything. In addition, we found the apartment to be very clean and spacious. We had no problems contacting the owner, and we appreciated how flexible he was with our check-in time, as our arrival plans kept changing because our shuttle was running late. The owner also provided excellent recommendations in the area. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

This apartment was an ideal place to stay for my girlfriend and I. We were 3 blocks from the city center, where restaurants, bars, cafes and grocery stores were very accessible. Parking was easy and the street was very quiet. Reykjavik is an expensive place to dine out, so having a kitchen saved us a lot of money. Additionally, the apartment is clean, modern and comfortable, and affords more space than a traditional hotel. The proprietor was very accommodating and checked us into the apartment very late at night.

We stayed for 3 nights during our first trip to Iceland. We used Reykjavik as our base to do tours to the countryside. The location of this apartment was ideal! It was close enough to the main BSI bus station that we could walk. It was also very close to great boutiques, a grocery store, a local pool, and a tourist information shop (Trip) where we could book our tours.
The apartment itself was clean and the furnishings were very nice. For the price, we felt this was a great deal. My only negative feedback is that the area was a bit noisy at night.
The owners were friendly and eager to help. My emails were always answered promptly. -

ShanghaiNice place...
Left on 08/04/2011 for a stay in July 2011
but not as nice as most of the reviews make you believe... at least that is our opinion...
As part of our 10 day tour around Iceland we spent our first 2 nights in this apartment in Reykjavik. We travelled with 5 people and price wise renting an apartment made the most sense. We were happy with the place although there are also a few elements which are up for improvement.
First the pro's:
- Location is unbeatable: right in the middle of the main shopping street in Reykjavik. Lots of nice restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk.
- The apartment itself is nicely designed, very large (double floor) and is very cosy.
- Price is very good value, certainly if you are with a group of 5 like us.
- Wireless internet is fast and reliable.
- We were allowed to park our rental car at the parking behind the owner's father's office. This was only a few blocks away and was very helpful to us.
An important minor point for us was that sometimes it took quite some time to get response from the owner. I had emailed him several times before my arrival to check how I could pick up the key, especially since our flight arrived very late at night. I never received a response and had to call him myself on the morning right before our flight. On other occassions it also took some time before we received a response.
The stairs in the apartment are very steep and it curves as well. This makes it not so practical (and even a bit dangerous) to carry up heavy luggage.
The bathrooms are nice but quite small and we noticed some of the paint coming off, etc. As mentioned above, the apartment is nice and cosy, but especially the lower bathroom was a bit less well maintained we found.
All in all, we had a good stay and seen the expensive hotel rates in Reykjavik this apartment is certainly worth considering as long as you know what to expect. -

We had a wonderful time staying at this apartment. It's in a perfect location - we were able to get around town as we needed and were even given a parking spot just one block away.
The apartment is very clean, modern, comfortable and easy to get to. We really could not have asked for a better place to stay.
Sjonni and Jenny were very friendly and helped us sort out any problems we had. They also gave us great recommendations for places to go for food, etc. nearby.
We would, without a doubt, stay at this apartment again. -

Great location on the main shopping street in Reykjavik. Everything--and I mean everything--including the Perlan is within easy walking distance. It's also only three minutes from one of the main bus stops, so you can travel farther outside the city limits. There's a supermarket about a block away, and cooking in the kitchen was easy. Yes, Friday and Saturday nights will be loud--but so is every place in downtown Reykjavik. (We've stayed on the 7th floor of hotels, and it was much louder than this apt.) The owners were great through the entire reservation process. I highly recommend this apartment. And, if this one is not best for you, check out any of the other www.rentinreykjavik.com places, as the property managers are a pleasure to work with.

I'm positive you will not find a better apartment, location, value or host in Reykjavik! Even before our trip began I'm sure Sjonni and Jenny were feeling pestered with my frequent emails regarding car rentals, tours, golf courses etc... I always received a prompt response with detailed information which really helped plan our trip and put nerves at ease!
My boyfriend and I arrived in Reykjavik in the early morning and were able to have access to the apartment immediately. Sjonni met us there soon after to make sure everything was satisfactory and answer any questions. He also provided further contact information in case we had more questions. Throughout the week I ended up contacting Sjonni several more times with general questions (i.e. - best places to eat... highly recommend Fish Market!) and he always responded promptly and even met us out a couple of times to respond in person!
The apartment is in a great location, walking distance to everything you'll need - grocery store, shopping, coffee, restaurants... The apartment itself is spread over 2 floors with the bedroom and master bathroom on the main floor, and kitchen/dining/living and additional bathroom on the 2nd floor. There is also a giant balcony that overlooks the main street. The apartment is tastefully decorated with some local art pieces and a good size bookcase full of books. You will find everything you need for your stay in the apartment.
I highly recommend this apartment for your stay in Reykjavik and think you would have a hard time finding anything better for the same value. We are planning a return trip (one week wasn't enough) and will most definitely stay here again!Response from Reykjavik-Apartments - 07/13/2011

Along with our daughter and her husband, we stayed in Jenny and Sjonni's spacious, well-equiped, afforable apartment located in a very convenient part of town. They gave us their phone numbers and encouraged us to call them if we needed anything. They also offer very interesting, affordable and informative tours. Sjonni, who is a trained mountain guide and is very congenial, drove us around to the places we wanted to see. We would certainly stay in one of their apartments if we visited Iceland again and highly recommend their apartments to anyone visiting Reykjavik.

Our family including my husband and mother and father really researched options for our stay in Reykjavik. We are thrilled we found this place! It is top notch on every level: right on the main drag in the city, comfortable, clean, elegant, and well-equipped space, with an outstanding family managing reservations and events.
We had the added bonus of working with the family to organize our trips pony trekking and exploring the country, which was fun, informative, and made the whole trip excellent. You won't find a nicer and more informed host (Sjonni is a well-traveled mountaineering guide and expert), and the fee is more than reasonable comparatively. -

Boston, USADecember in Reykjavik
Left on 02/02/2011 for a stay in December 2010
Stayed from early December to early January. Location on Reykjavik's main shopping street is awesome. Owner was very helpful and arranged for someone to pick us up at the BSI bus terminal on arrival. Nearby grocery stores from discount (Bónus) to organic (Heilsuhúsið and Yggdrasill). Kitchen well supplied with appliances including a microwave, dishwasher and utensils. Great coffee shops include Kaffismiðjan Ãslands, Mokka Kaffi and of course Kaffitár. We ate over a dozen different cuisines & sampled the many restaurant choices in the city, including a pair of vegetarian restaurants, à næstu grösum and Grænn Kostur. We did not have a car and walked all over. To get outside the city we did day tours used pick up/drop off at Fosshótel Barón - 2-3 minute walk with easy access for tour vans or buses - (Laugavegur is too narrow for the larger tour buses). Day tours can be booked online with arctic adventures, Reykjavik Excursions or Grey Line.
Tips for gringos:
1) The hot and cold water are different systems. For drinking or coffee use only cold tap water. The hot water has a sulfur smell because it is an older system that uses geothermally heated water that is high in minerals. Swimmer's shampoo can help wash the minerals out of your hair if it bothers you.
2) Washer is European which means it takes much longer than a North american model to go through the wash cycle and bring a clothesline.
3) Buy alcohol at the airport duty free when you arrive. Later you can buy more from the state liquor stores Vinbudin (closest is on austurstræti). Icelanders hit the bars after 10PM and they are full by 11PM. Try Opal if you want a shot of local firewater made from Icelandic candy.
4) If you like candy - Iceland rocks. Buy candy on Saturday as many stores discount. Hraun Bitar, literally Lava Bits, (crisp rice in chocolate), Kúlusúkk (licorice in chocolate) and Nóa Kropp (corn puffs in milk chocolate) were our favorites. -

LondonLuxury flat
Left on 10/28/2010 for a stay in October 2010
After reading the reviews of this flat I was expecting great things.
We are a young couple with a baby. This flat is not suitable for families with a baby at all. The stairs from the bedroom up to the living area are treacherously steep and not at all suitable for someone who would be carrying a baby.
While the website said that a cot could be provided this turned out to be a travel cot which was left at the door for us on arrival. We couldn't for the life of us get the thing up and working after spending half an hour trying, and our baby ended up sleeping in an armchair propped against the wall.
The towels provided were sparse and unsuitable to give to paying guests.
The sink in the bathroom didn't drain properly and using the shower left the bathroom in a puddle of water.
The flat was advertised as having a DVD player and a TV. There was no DVD player and the TV had two channels. One was some kind of religious channel and the other was not in English, so the TV was completely useless to us.
The location is fantastic and within easy reach of shops, bars and restaurants. This would be ideal for a group of boys/girls who are out most of the time enjoying the nightlife but on Friday night when you're stuck in with a baby the noise was just unbearable and again completely unsuitable for a family with a baby.
This is very much a student (with out of date food in the cupboards) bachelor pad and overall we were very disappointed.Response from Reykjavik-Apartments - 11/12/2010
Owner
Dear Pamela,
We are really sorry that the apartment was not to your satisfaction.
I don´t remember which towels we left in the apartment but we could have easily given you new ones if you would have called us. The sink drains very well if you lift up the drain blocker.
The DVD player was broken and I had forgotten to replace it. If you would have let us know It would have been easy to provide you immediately with another one.
We only have two channels in Iceland that you don´t have to pay for.
We leave food such as sugar and spices that people have already left behind so the future guests don´t have to buy big quantities and so wasting money. We will be more careful to check for dates in the future.
We are again really sorry that you did not enjoy the apartment as it is one of our most popular apartments. It is our sincere desire to keep our costumers happy.
Regarding the cot, we had already offered any assistant what so ever as we live just five minutes away.
We wish you would have contacted us during your stay so we could have dealt with the problems and made your stay more enjoyable.
All the best,
Sjonni -

The apartment was centrally located, very well appointed and private, though in the centre of town. When we arrived we were delighted with the place (we had a little trouble finding it as in Iceland, a few places share the same address and we didn't realize it was behind a store). Its upstairs is filled with light and they have a nice kitchen and a comfortable couch to relax on. There is a wonderful local pool nearby that Jenny directed us to (it would be nice if there were one or two extra towels at the house so you didn't have to rent them at the pool). However, when we were there, it was so loud outside with honking horns and people shouting from 11pm-5am that we couldn't sleep much including my mom who can't hear that well, but maybe it was been a particularly crazy weekend (my mom who has hearing problems also found it too loud) as there owners said they dont' have problems usually. But the place itself was lovely so if you don't have the noise outside, it would be good and it is so central. The place across the street has wonderful icelandic pancakes!

This apartment was exactly as described when we arrived on our trip in early Sept '10. The upstairs living area is awesome and provided a lot of room for us to plan our trip and prepare/eat meals (a lot cheaper than the restaurants around).
All the amenities were there and it felt just like being at home, but in a different city. This was a really nice feeling to come back to after a long day out sightseeing.
The only complaint about the place that I would have (and this didn't really pose a problem for us, I just sort of found it strange) is that there is no microwave in the apartment. Coming from North america I know that everyone has one of these in their homes (even before an oven), so I just thought it would be the addition to make this place fully equipped.
Any worries about street noise in this downtown location can pretty much be quashed as the bedroom is tucked under the main living area and there isn't much sound that comes in from the street. Mind you we visited in Sept, I can't really say what it would be like in June-July (but I would guess it would be quiter than most places in the downtown area). There aren't really any noisy bars in this immediate area anyways.
The owners were really helpful and quick to respond to our needs. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Reykjavik for an extended or even short stay.Response from Reykjavik-Apartments - 09/21/2010

Hi Josh,
Glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our apartment.
You are not the first to point out about the lack of microwave and we have now bought one : )

Suffolkgreat location

The flat was in an excellent location, on the main shopping street and a 5 minute walk to the Hlemmur bus terminal. It was clean, modern and well furnished, we really liked the open-plan layout, although we felt that a microwave oven would have been a really useful addition to the kitchen.
The water was really hot!
We would suggest that anyone arriving at the flat by the shuttle bus should ask to be dropped off at Hotel Baron Foss, as this is far closer to the flat than the official stop at the other end of Laugavegur. -

LondonUnique flat in center of town with huge outdoor patio
Left on 08/25/2010 for a stay in August 2010
The flat owners were very nice and made the arrival logistics very easy. The flat itself was right in the center of town on the main street. Being set out over two floors allowed for plenty of space, and the downstairs bedroom was quiet and separate, but connected via stairs or the huge outdoor patio. Only issue was the roll-away beds were not the greatest quality, so not an ideal flat for a larger group of friends.

Please do not hesitate to rent this wonderful apartment if you are interested in visiting Reykjavik. The apartment is just like you see in the photos, only better, because of it's central location to everything in Iceland you will need.
Once you get the hang of everything, it is truly in a perfect spot to see and explore Iceland on foot (the best way, in my opinion) or by bus as the main bus station is only a few blocks away.
The location is perfect as it's close to all things you will need such as the supermarkets, bakery, tourist office and a good swimming pools is also nearby.
Jenny was very kind to pick us up from the bus station and handled all of our requests with professional ease. The place exceeded our expectations and I look forward to coming back around Christmas and New Year's.

Our host picked us up from the central bus station for the short drive to the apartment, which is located on the central shopping street of Reykjavik, in the heart of the city.
The apartment is beatufully decorated and contains a wide array of amenities and modern appliances.
We stayed for a week and were very comfortable. The location gave us the opportunity to explore the city's main attractions and interesting side streets on foot. Another benefit is the nearby access to one of Reykjavik's wonderful geothermal pubic pools and hot tubs; also a short walk to Sandholt Bakery for morning coffee and quiche and a loaf of fresh baked bread.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this apartment and would gladly stay there again. -

Jenny and Jonny could not have been more helpful or have provided a more
professional service than they did. The apartment itself is absolutely stunning,
very well equipped and we felt very much at home. The central location and
the breathtaking view was the icing on the cake.
If you want to truly experience living in Reykjavik, you must stay in this
apartment! We will certainly be booking this apartment when we next travel to

We stayed for two nights at the end of our holiday in Iceland in this wonderful apartment right in the centre of Reykjavik. The light filled open plan living space (upstairs) was really lovely and inviting, as was the terrace (where we enjoyed breakfast in the sun. The terrace could be accessed from both the living room and the downstairs bedroom (with ensuite). There were four of us staying so we also used the sofabed upstairs, which was very comfortable. The location couldn't be better, as it is really central and there are lots of options for eating out and all of Reyjaviks city sights are in easy walking distance. We found the apartment to be clean, spacious (for four people) & full of character, it was also good value for money. We would highly recommend this apartment, and would definately stay here again on a return trip to Iceland.

My husband and me stayed in this apartment for 6 days and we loved it.It was like being at our home but in Iceland.Great facilities;everything worked perfectly; it is spacious and comfy.Location is perfect; closed to everything you need in Reykjavik ;tourist office to book all your excursions ;shops and restaurants and bus station as well as pick up points for trips.
Jenny was also a very helpful host; and even though she was on call if needed she totally respected our privacy .
If we go again; we will defintely stayed there.

We arrived to find that our home for the week was not only in the perfect spot for exploring Reykjavik, but also the perfect place to come home to, to relax and defrost.
The apartment is equipped with everything we needed and is furnished like a home. It was everything we had hoped for and more. A wonderful mix of space and warmth that would be hard to achieve in London!
You only need step outside the building and you are on Laugervegur, the main street through the city. Close enough that nowhere is far to walk, but just far enough that the noisy but joyous weekend local bar crawl is something that happens somewhere else and could go un-noticed if you were tucked up inside the flat.
The apartment owners were incredibly kind and accommodating, even managing to meet us at the coach terminal despite our flight being terribly delayed. And this, on a night when they had their own plans. It was very much appreciated.
We would definitely recommend Luxurious and Cosy and can not think of any reason to look elsewhere if we were heading back to Reykjavik. -

This was our second trip to Iceland and we had
decided to rent a place instead of stay in a hotel as
we did last time. We could not have asked for more.
This flat is absolutely beautiful, wonderfully
comfortable and situated in an ideal location. We
were able to nip out for coffee or a meal without a
lot of planning, and the major sightseeing points
within easy distance of the flat were astounding.
Reykjavik is my favourite place that I have been in
the world and when I think of my ideal visit it was
spent in this flat. -

Newport Beach, CA USAA Great Home Away From Home

The apartment is a nice place to stay while visiting Reykjavik. The accommodations are near a bank, food store, 24 hour convenience store, and walking distance to all restaurants, shops, cafes, and nightlife. The bed is very comfortable and the apartment is spacious, bright, and well decorated. This was much better than my stay at the boring Hilton on the outskirts of town and I saved a small fortune on taxi's too.
