Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in December 2012
Becoming familiar by visiting Reykjavik a few times prior, when I seen this penthouse on Laugavegur for rent I knew it was a must for my Christmas and New Years stay. The location is situated in the heart of Reykjavik close to all shops, restaurants, clubs, museums and public transportation. Situated on the roof of the building you have amazing panoramic views and a sense of privacy. The penthouse is beautifully laid out with a newer contemporary design, very clean, great new appliances and very comfortable. Jon was very friendly, accommodating and helpful. I new it was a great find when my local friends were impressed. I look forward to renting this amazing penthouse again!

Left on 04/10/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We were looking for a apartment in which it is possible for us to spend the evening without disturbing the baby's sleep. As this penthouse apartment provides two floors - fist with bathroom / living room / kitchen, second for sleeping - this was no problem at all. Although the apartment is on the 4th floor, it is easily accessible by elevator (-- baby stoller).
The apartment is located in the very center of Reykjavik. Most of the sights are within walking distance. -

OttawaPerfect Place in Reykjavik!
Left on 12/03/2012 for a stay in November 2012
My wife and I stayed here for a week while on our honeymoon in Iceland. Jon, the owner, and his assistant, Agnes, were superb. They were on-time and met us at the apartment, showed us around, and never hesitated to offer us anything that we might need. We were given a cell phone for free to make local calls in Iceland, as well as free wifi. Everything was to our satisfaction, and the photos don't really do the place justice--the views from the balconies are spectacular!
The location was perfect. A short walk from virtually everything in Reykjavik, it's right across the street from the tourist office, and there's a grocery store next door that will let you take advantage of the apartment's kitchen.
The bed was extremely comfortable, and it was nice to have a separate, quieter loft space available at night. Despite the apartment being on a busy street and the, ahem, "active" Icelandic nightlife, the apartment was quiet at night.
When we go back to Iceland again, we will definitely be staying here! -

I am feeling very greedy. I am afraid if I tell you how absolutely blissful my stay was at this property that my chances of renting it over and over again will be lessened! From the moment I booked the property I was in love. I had been eyeballing it for awhile and was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to stay here. I am a frequent traveler to Iceland and like to stay in different places but now I have found my permanent home. The owner is so attentive and accommodating. The apartment is perfectly located and loaded with every amenity you could possibly hope for. A lovely kitchen..Amazing bathroom (you could do laps in the tub)..Jon even provides you with a cell phone. The views are glorious. For a nominal fee a garage is even provided for you. Incredible attention to detail! I could just wax on and on..but honestly...why would you stay in a hotel when you could live like a local in this utterly beautiful apartment in the most charming capital in the world?

We stayed four nights in this spacious modern apartment. Jon the owner was very accommodating, allowing us to get in when we arrived from our overnight flight. He gave us a quick review of how everything worked and also a cell phone for our use while in the city. It came in handy to call taxis.
The two balconies provided great views of both the waterfront and the city. Everything was clean and comfortable. We would return here in a minute! Thanks Jon. -

Left on 06/22/2012 for a stay in June 2012
This place is very comfortable and well equipped. Jon is incredibly helpful and very responsive, even at 2am in the morning when we arrived! We have amazing pictures of the midnight sun and we didn't even have to put our shoes on. The only downside is a spiral staircase that is fine for sober adults, but would make me a little weary if I had small children. The mattress is a foam mattress, which I like, but which was difficult for my husband, a light sleeper, to sleep on. Other than that, this is a perfect place to stay. Book as early as you can! We couldn't stay for all the nights we wanted.

Left on 08/15/2011 for a stay in August 2011
The Reykjavik Laugavegur Penthouse was the perfect apartment for our week-long stay in Reykjavik! The location couldn't have been better, right in the center of everything. There is a Bonus grocery store right next door, so keeping the apartment stocked was easy. The photos in the profile of the apartment are spot-on... and the views are unbeatable. The bedroom is equipped with heavy wood blinds on the balcony doors and blackout shades on the skylight windows, so sleeping in the land of midnight sun was a non-issue. Also, the apartment is very quiet - especially for being so close to the notorious Reykjavik nightlife. All in all, the apartment was perfect for us.
Jon, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. We stayed in close contact via email prior to arrival and he assisted with airport transportation. As our flight arrived at 6am, Jon let us drop our bags at his apartment (on-site) and supplied us with a cell phone and called us the minute the apartment was ready.
Reykjavik is a beautiful, friendly city and Iceland is an amazing country. If your travels bring you to this part of the world, you can't go wrong staying at this apartment. -

Our family of 4 began our spring Icelandic vacation spending our first 3 nights at this comfortable, modern apartment near the center of Reykjevik. Even weeks before we arrived, our host, Jon, was responsive to our questions, made booking easy, and offered us a concierge-like check in with recommendations for restaurants, etc while we were in the city plus giving us his cell phone number for immediate contact should we encounter any problems. Upon arrival at the property, we were very pleasantly surprised by the layout, roominess, amenities and cleanliness of the property. The pictures do not do it justice. We first opened the second floor bedroom rear deck sliders to the view of Hallgrimskirkja Church steeple and fashionable Laugavegur streetscape. On the north side of the apartment, a skylight opened towards the Sun Voyager Viking ship sculpture in the northern waterside park. The apartment was quiet in spite of the city's reputation for weekend revelry. It was an added bonus to be able to drive into our reserved garage parking space at the end of a long day of siteseeing. We were able to walk to restaurants and many attractions without being concerned with parking or pubic transportation. Too bad I can only give 5stars- I get to keep all the happy memories.

Left on 05/24/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We stayed at Jon's condo over the last weekend of april 2011. Jon was great at connecting with our party first to ensure that we arrived in Iceland safely and to confirm the details of the rental. The unit itself is extremely modern and well appointed with all the amenities you would need. It's the upper floor of a low rise complex above a restaurant. The location is absolutely fantastic - right in the centre of the city on the main shopping street. We had a rental car and had no problem finding parking directly in front of the unit. There's many cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. We stayed over a weekend and were warned that the noise could be an issue with the nightlife/bars so close by but we didn't hear a thing. I would highly recommend this location over any hotel regardless of a price premium as it's well worth it.

This apartment is perfectly located. We found it to be a bit smaller than it looks in the photos, but also nicer -- simple design, everything good quality. It was completely clean, great shower (large bathroom), laundry facilities, coffee maker, comfortable beds. For a family of 4 the dining table was too small to eat at for a real meal, but the arrangement is fine for breakfast or snacks. Quite a bargain as compared to hotel.

ChicagoA Nice Stay
Left on 11/11/2010 for a stay in October 2010
We stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon. We enjoyed our time here and the location was great. The apartment has a very crisp and modern feel. However, it must be said that the bathroom was a little dirty and the tiles in the bathtub/shower were stained or covered with mineral deposits. (Since we were only there a short time, we didn't mention anything to Jon)
The full kitchen was nice with lots of counterspace, so it was easy to prepare a meal.
Jon was an excellent host and gave good information on the local attractions. He was very accomodating at check-out. We had stayed up too late the night before enjoying the epic nightlife and had overslept, so we checked out a few minutes late.Response from Apartments in Iceland - 06/27/2011
Owner
Unfortunately the geo-thermal water here in Reykjavik (which is very rich in minerals and sulphur) leaves stains that are next to impossible to remove and these stains literally become a part of the tiles. And with black tiles in the bathrooms it becomes even more visible. Thank you for bringing this up and I guess I will eventually have to change the tiles to get rid of this... and when I do I better go for white tiles ;-)

Left on 10/26/2010 for a stay in October 2010
We just returned from a week long sojourn in Iceland. We spent the majority of our nights at Reykjavik Laugavegur Penthouse, using it as a base for exploring Reykjavik and Southern Iceland.
I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it was to stay here. It has all the amenities one could hope for, including a fully equipped kitchen, a huge bathroom (especially by European standards), and a separate spacious loft bedroom.
It is located in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, within walking distance of fabulous restaurants and many sites. We didnt have issues finding street parking (although Fri/Sat nights are busy), but you can also rent an underground parking space.
In my opinion, the best part about the condo was the owner, Jon. He was an invaluable resource, providing insight into what to do/where to go/eat in Reykjavik. He was so friendly and went "above and beyond" on more than one occasion.
This was by far the best accommodation experience I have had in all my travels, and would wholeheartedly reccommend staying here to friends and family. We are already thinking about returning next summer.
Thanks, Jon.

A home from home in on the city's main shopping and bar street.
The flat was lovely, better than described. Very well equipped, lovely huge bathtub and if you fancy a home cooked meal, the balcony off the bedroom offers the best view of the city by candlelight. Stayed here for 3 nights and would not hesitate to stay again. It's very high quality / standard, and the owner was very friendly and flexible - providing extras such as early check in and out. The penthouse itself has DVD player, flat screen tv and digital channels, towels, phone (for free local calls), hairdryer, spare chairs for use on the balcony, toilet paper, toastie machines, cupboards stoc and the cupboards are stocked with various spices and oddities enabling you to cook in and have a romantic dinner.
The fly bus will drop you off in the city centre and, if booked ahead, will pick you up from hotel fron just 2 mins walk away.
Thanks Jon for a great stay! -

The location of this apartment is perfect, it is right on the main street and close to shops, bars, restaurants and sites to see in Reykjavik. The penthouse apartment is beautiful with extremely comfortable furniture, a nice kitchen and beautiful balcony in the bedroom. We made ourselves at home for the week, this was so much better than staying at a hotel. We arrived early in the morning and agnes was waiting for us with the key outside the apartment. Everything flowed seamlessly and perfectly. Jon left brochures for us and travel books, which were very helpful. He even left a cell phone to use for local calls. I highly recommend this apartment over any hotel in Reykjavik. The location is excellent - it's located on the main street within walking distance to all the interesting sites, yet it is also very quiet at night as well. Since we rented a vehicle, the onsite parking was extremely convenient and well worth the extra cost. Jon was always available if needed and was extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing your apartment with us! It felt like a home, much
more spacious than a hotel room. The location was secure and a quick walk
to nice restaurants, top end shops, and bars. The grocery is very close and
conveinent. We had friends who were staying at a nearby hotel. Since it was
her birthday, we asked them to stop in for drinks before we went out for
dinner. The friends were envious and kept asking how we found such
fabulous accomodations. They even wanted to have their picture taken from
the balcony as it is a wonderful view. Your photos are accurate, if anything
upon arrival the apartment seemed larger than what the photos convey. We
felt like Laugavegur Ave. is where all the people come to! This condo is
elevated and you can see up and down Avenue, we had fun just taking it all
in. Your location is close enough to walk to nightclubs, but here you can
sleep before 4am on a weekend summer night, should you choose to. There
is a secure elevator which takes you to the unit....Only concern, might be
for families traveling with toddlers, there some stairs within lofted unit. We
would choose to stay at this apartment again for our next trip to Iceland. I
just hope there is availability!!!
Travel Tips: Be sure to use self catering and grocery to save money on food
costs. On weekends only there is large indoor flea market with in easy walk
that was off the beaten path and quite fun. At the time we stayed here
owner, knew some contact that would save money on transport to and from
airport. Be advised that when staying in center city on summer weekend
nights the nightlife happily spills out on Avenues to enjoy the long summer
light and warm temps. If you are getting a rental car to go out past the city,
rent a GPS too! -
