Brilliant Base - Free Parking - Easy Stroll to Centre - perfect

Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013

We used this as a base for our year long celebrations of our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary - silver and ice seem to compliment each other. We really found paying via PayPal very useful and easy. The apartment was spotlessly clean and tidy offered free parking outside the front entrance, free Wi Fi and was a ten to fifteen minute stroll into the centre of town. On the same street was a 24 hour supermarket, further along on the opposite side another supermarket cheapest in Iceland. So near to the main shopping area but just on the perimeter so no problem with noise - excellent. Just a couple of minutes walk to an excellent Pizza place. Recommend Loki to sample local fresh cooked food near the massive church really easy to get to and good value. Key entry was secure downstairs street access with a seperate internal front door lock to the apartment - very good. Sjonni was always ready to explain anything, emailed us by return when we asked a question and popped round to see us a couple of days after we had settled in - really excellent levels of care. This is a great base for Reykjavik - the kitchin was packed with all you need. Icelandic people use small cups but we bought a couple of mugs. If you want to get some the Tiger store was the cheapest we found locally. Easy to get to if you come in on the FlyBus as it was 200m from the city centre bus station. We hired a car and that allowed us greater freedom. The apartment is full of beautiful photographs on canvas taken by Sjonni's father - awe inspiring in a fabulous country that is so different from everywhere else. Five days allowed us to do about half what we looked the like of - so we will have to return! Just to cap our stay off - Sjonni left us a beautiful set of gifts and wine for our anniversary - very thoughtful - great attention to detail. Highly recommended! You have to experience it first hand Iceland is unique!

Had a great time at the apartment. Nice layout with an extremely inviting living room. Tons of dishes and the like in the kitchen as well also make it easy for you to do some grocery shopping in the neighbor in order to prepare dinner at home. This will surely help you save on some of the pricey food costs that you'll encounter downtown.

      Comfortable, spacious, well-maintained, city-center apartment

Left on 12/28/2012 for a stay in November 2012

First and foremost, Sjonni could not have been a more accommodating and responsive host. When you email somebody and receive a response within 15 minutes, that's pretty much as good as it gets. Thank you Sjonni!

The apartment for more than enough space for 6 people and was nicely decorated and super clean. It's situated nearby several supermarkets and just down the street from all the bars and restaurants. Also, if you walk down to the corner, you can see the gorgeous mountains in the distance to the right.

The only advice I would give the host is that it would be helpful to have some instructional notes around the apartment, such as how to use the TV remote controls, what items are actually stocked up in the kitchen cupboards (we didn't know there was an electrical converter already there!), where to go throw out the garbage, etc. Just things that as out-of-towners and also as people in someone else's home, we wouldn't know.

Great Time and Home in Reykjavik

Left on 09/10/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We stayed in the home for 5 days in august. Sjonni was a great host. He was very attentive to our needs, offered loads of information on things to do, places to go, and restuarants to eat at. In addition, he was just a phone call or txt away if we had a quick question. The home was perfect for us, it has plenty of space, and was clean and comfortable. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the heart of Reykjavik but we did not mind that. Overall, 5 stars from me...

Amazing Modern House with stunning view

Left on 09/02/2012 for a stay in August 2012

This was a perfect place to stay-we loved the modern architecture (lots of windows, concrete floors), it had everything we needed and the setting was incredible, right on the water and far enough from the City. We didn't mind the drive to the city everyday because the scenery was really the best part-hosts were very accommodating, they brought me a hair dryer when I forgot mine. Would definately do this again

      Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic!

Left on 07/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012

10 of us stayed here on a hen do and we had the best week ever! The apartment was spacious, clean and had everything we could possibly need - the kitchen was fully stocked with the essentials, cupboard full of clean towels, hairdryers, etc.
Perfect location - 2 minutes walk from a great bakery and supermarkets and 10 minutes away from all the bars and clubs.
Sjonni was the perfect host - went beyond the call of duty! Before our arrival, he helped us to organise taxis and excursions and even manage to haggle prices down with tour companies for us! We arrived very late at night but he met us at the apartment and showed us round. He had prepared some maps for us highlighting all the important things and even left us some fresh fruit and yogurt for breakfast the next day.
Great attention to detail in making our stay absolutely perfect! I've recommended the place to all my friends and colleagues so I'm sure he's going to be very busy!

A disappointing stay: noisy apartment, poor welcome

Left on 06/12/2012 for a stay in May 2012

This was such a very disappointing place - poor welcome, faulty electrics, very noisy. The photos look great but what you do not see through the blinds is the noisy roundabout outside the window (this is the less fashionable end of Laugavegur near the Phallus Museum), and the rather grey view of a carpark from the small balcony on the other side. Other reviewers have suggested Sjonni was a good host, which is one of the reasons I booked this, but when I arrived at the unpretentious doorway to the brown pebble-dashed apartment building and texted him to let me in, as he suggested I do, nothing happened. I waited in the dirty hallway full of old newspapers and trash and when I finally called on his mobile, a friend answered and sounded surprised I hadn't found my way into the apartment, which Sjonni had apparently left open. He could easily have told me that rather than leaving me to wait. I was told that he was coming, so waited for an hour, but he did not arrive. There was no welcoming note, nothing to explain that there were towels in a hidden mirror cupboard (I didn't find them the first day and had to use a tea towel!), and nothing like coffee or cooking oil which some apartments provide - if you were self-catering you'd have to do it from scratch. It is a noisy flat - the buses pass close by all day and the windows don't close properly (the window in the bathroom is permanently open and couldn't be pulled shut). At night I switched on the one bedside light, which caused sparks from the plug and blew the electrics. A guide to the apartment might have been useful to explain where the fusebox was. I lay in the dark, listening to the neighbours moving around above, and other neighbours opening and closing the doors below. Sjonni says that when he has eight people in there they don't hear the noise. It is a one bedroom apartment with two single beds in the dining room, probably a sofa bed in the sitting room, but I can't imagine where the other two would be: with 8 adults and one bathroom it would be a squeeze. My husband arrived on the red-eye from the us the next day: he was feeling exhausted... It was a long weekend in the us so all the hotels we called were full... and we hated this place so much we changed our flights and went home.

      Reykjavik-Apartments

Hello future guests this is a response to you.

I make my livelihood renting out apartments and I want to ensure you that we do everything to make our guests feel welcome. And we keep all our apartments well maintained. As I am also a carpenter I try to do most of the work myself.

First of all there is no roundabout outside this apartment and although true it is on the high end of Laugavegur.
If you are on the other end you are to close to the downtown noises during weekends and they can get quite noisy, so in that respect I would say you were better off on the high end. Close by is an organic store, bakery, supermarket, pizza place and a Thai Restaurant so it is a lively place.

The phallus museum is close to the apartment but I don´t know why she is mentioning that in her reviesw, anyhow it is a one of a kind in the world where they display a collection of phallic specimens belonging to all the various types of mammal found in a single country so I would recommend you take a look, you can find more on that here www.phallus.is

I actually drove down to the Bus station to meet the guest but came to early so I made other plans to let her into the apartment as I had to be elsewhere. We always try to meet our guests and show them around but it is just not always possible.

There is a big closet in the bathroom with clean towels and it is not hidden at all and you just really can´t miss it. The bathroom window can not be fully closed but that way it lets steam out of the bathroom. The window is inside the shower and because of the moist the wood expands so it´s really hard to make it close.

There is always, sugar coffee, tea and cooking oil in the apartments but somehow and I don´t know how she missed that. But there are many small cupboards and cabinets in the kitchen so that might be the reason.

This is a 2 bedroom apartment and not one bedroom apartment as she states. I have many times had 8 persons staying there and even up to 10 and never had a complaint.

This apartment goes for 35000ISK per night, but since they were just 2 traveling together and I had a vacancy I let it to them with a 50% discount.

All the best and I am looking forward to see you in the future?

      Sjonni.

Left on 05/23/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Had a great time. The apartment was a 10 min walk from the night life which is fantastic. The room and beds were fine, the only thing I did not like was the smell of the hot water. All the hot water in Iceland comes straight out of the ground and smells of horrible gas...yuck, apart from that it was great.

Spacious, clean, light, beautiful unit in the center of Reykjavi

Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in April 2012

A great value in the center of the city. Rooms were large and simply appointed that made us feel right at home! We were a family of 3 and had more than enough room. Extra bedroom, which was adjacent to main unit wasn't even needed. Kitchen was simple and functional with Coffee Maker, Fridge, Microwave, D/W, and 2 burner stove, and an eating nook for 4. There was no Oven. Location was on the edge of main retail core, but within easy walking distance to great shopping, restaurants, bakeries and all the highlights of Reykjavik. On street parking was free and plentiful! Free and fast WiFi was a snap to configure. Our host Sjonni met us promptly and made great recommendations for restaurants, and even helped us plan our trip, pointing out sights to visit during our stay. Views from the unit are strictly urban, but we came to Iceland to see the amazing natural scenery outdoors and it did not disappoint. Furthermore, the large high resolution images of Iceland in all the rooms taken by the owner's father are simply stunning! These great accomodations allowed us to rest and recharge at the end of the day. I would highly recommend!

Spacious well equipped kitchen had everything except an oven.

      Excellent for airwaves

Left on 02/11/2012 for a stay in October 2011

A group of six of us descended upon Reykjavik for Iceland airwaves in October 2011, and stayed in this great apartment. It's right off the main commercial street that leads through downtown Reykjavik. It's well within walking distance to shops, restaurants, gyms, and all sorts of attractions. If you rent a car, it is very easy to park on the street in front. The apartment is warm, spacious and comfortable. Despite having six of us, we didn't feel crowded. There was plenty of room to store our things, and the building is quiet. Free wifi, too! Sjonni is a great host, and we'll definitely be back!

Our stay in Iceland was enhanced by our rental of an apartment near downtown Reykjavik. The apartment was clean, comfortable, quiet and in a very good location - for walking to the downtown, taking a bus or for driving in and out of the city. Furnishings were slightly Spartan, but adequate. Hosts were very pleasant and helpful.

If I visit Reykjavik again I would book the same place.

      Wonderful

Left on 07/12/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We had a wonderful time in Reykjavik. The apartment was perfect for 4 people. That way, we used the other sleeping area as a living room with TV and computer set up. The apartment was clean & well appointed. The downstairs bathroom was also handy. The location is great, on the main road, but away from noise. Bus terminal 1/2 block away. The Welcome Card, available at the tourism office, (about 2400ISK for 3 days) is a great deal. It's good for unlimited bus rides, ferry to Videy, several museums, neighborhood pools, and store discounts. Would definitely stay again. One friend who was with us would have liked a microwave.

We loved the apartment, the rooms were very spacious and it is situated just on the top of the main street. There is a taxi station, organic shop and a bus station close by, but the fact is that everything is in walking distance so you don't really need those services. The owners were great and attended to all our needs and questions. We were 7 people traveling together and the apartment worked out fine for this group size.

We stayed in Iceland in this wonderful apartment and just wanted to write a small review to show our appreciation. The apartment was fantastic and suited all our needs, it is very spacious and above all centrally located. The kitchen is quite big and with a lot of storage space the only down side is that it does not have a dishwasher, you can't have it all . We can honestly recommend this apartment for a big family up to 8 people. The owners were also very helpful in assisting us with all our inquiries.
      Thanks.
