The house is located close to Reykjavik's best walking paths in Öskjuhlíð, just a few steps and you are in one of few Icelandic "forrests". The walk from the house to the main shopping street (Laugavegur) takes around 20-30 min depending on the rout you take. The house is also located very close to Iceland's largest shopping mall, Kringlan. The walk to the mall takes around 4 minutes, there you will find two grocery stores, a theater, movie theater, a lot of clothing stores and many restaurants ( I recommend going to Hamborgarafabrikan and get a burger).
Nauthólsvík Icelands only geothermal beach is located 15 minutes walking distance from the house. I highly recommend visiting the beach on a sunny day, if the water is to cold don't worry there is a large heated hot tub there with sea water.
Perlan one of Iceland's most famous buildings is just 5 minutes walking from the house. There you can look over the whole city an or have a bite to eat at the restaurant or cafe.
Free parking space is located outside the house.
Busses leave from Kringlan (the mall) (300 meters away) and go from there to most locations in the city.
Other Things to Note
TRANSFER TO AND FROM AIRPORT:
It is good to know that the FLYBUS from Keflavik airport to Reykjavík city centre departs 40 minutes after each flight. If you are arriving late at night or your flight is delayed, don't worry, there will be a Flybus waiting for you. Price ISK 1995 with bus to Reykjavik city centre (BSI terminal) and it takes 45 minutes. You can walk to Birkihlíð from BSI terminal (1,6 kilometer or 1 mile) if your luggage is not too heavy. You can also take a taxi -will cost approx. ISK 1300 in the daytime and approx. ISK 1500 at night.
Iceland has one of the purest natures in the world.
This includes of course our water. It is quite safe to drink the water straight from the tab.
Alcohol is not sold in grocery stores in Iceland. You have to go to a store owned by the government, it is called ÁTVR.Read more
