Left on 05/22/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Stayed at Cuckoo Clock Lodge with 3 others for a biking break around Mid-Wales. The Lodge itself is no more than 5 minutes walk from around 10 pubs and central to some of the best biking roads in the country.
The Lodge is very comfortable and exceptionally clean. The kitchen and shower room are very modern with top of the range appliances. It really is a home from home.
Beds are very comfortable, and with the Lodge being in a quiet residential street, this makes for a great nights sleep. Garaging for the bikes was a welcome bonus too.
The owner (Jim) couldn't have been more helpful in the run up to our trip, suggesting different routes to take on our days out and apologising the night before we arrived for not persuading the "weather gods" to be kind to us.
Rachael (the housekeeper) was very nice, keeping us topped up with her fresh eggs and baking us some cracking chocolate brownies for our arrival.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Lodge for any kind of break

Great weekend stay, first of many.

Left on 05/08/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Late March / early april, perhaps not the best time to choose to go motorcycling around the Welsh countryside using Cuckoo Clock Lodge in Rhayader as a base, however it was the first run of the year!
Cuckoo Clock Lodge is everything you could wish for, warm, clean, spacious, with copious amounts of hot water to shower after a fun yet adventurous days motorcycling through the Welsh countryside. What's more, there are even two secure garages to park the motorcycles and hang your riding gear at the end of the day!
Cuckoo Clock Lodge features an elevated ground floor living/dining room with two storey high ceilings and a balcony, providing stunning views of the Élan valley.
The lodge is located 10 minutes from all the pubs and restaurants, should you decide not to use the fully fitted kitchen - well what are holidays for if not to let somebody else take the strain at meal times, whilst relaxing with a large glass of your favourite tipple.
Whilst the weather on this occasion could have been better, Cuckoo Clock Lodge is certainly a great location to base one's self with friends for a motorcycling weekend or holiday. I will most certainly be returning later in the year!

Communication with Jim & Sue was first class throughout. This was our second stay at Cuckoo Clock Lodge and it was still as impressive as the first time. The accommodation is spotless and all rooms equipped with everything you need for a relaxing break. Would recommend to anyone. The location is ideal for the Elan Valley and also not too far away from the coast if you fancy a trip to the seaside. Rhayader is a nice pleasant area with plenty of places to eat and drink.

The best place to stay in Rhayader

Left on 03/16/2013 for a stay in June 2012

So, looking into accommodation in Rhayader was dragging a bit as we were travelling as a bigger group than normal (including young kids) so it was tricky finding somewhere which could sleep us all at a reasonable price. And then we found Cuckoo Clock Lodge!

We travelled to Rhayader with our family of four (including two children aged 8 & 10) plus our sister and her 7 year old son.

The house has three spacious bedrooms, a modern open plan kitchen and living room, hotel standard plush shower and toilet downstairs and a cosy bathroom upstairs too. Plenty of room to park two cars plus a good sized garage in case you have bikes (roads around Rhayader are famously popular with road bikers and moto x events are also a regular occurance).

Breathtakingly beautiful views all around and still within about 10 minutes walk from the town centre.

I really couldn't believe my luck finding this place, it was more than perfect and we didn't hesitate to book our next stay on our departure.

Special mention to Jim for being so helpful and Rachel for the meet and greet on arrival, very friendly indeed.

Left on 09/27/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We recently discovered Cuckoo Clock Lodge as a place to stay for a long weekend in Wales. We stayed as a group of motorcyclists and thought that the location and facilty was great.

There is a good sized garage which we managed to fit 5 sports bikes in, as well as a good sized living/kitchen area.

All was very well presented and clean which was great.

Very nice welcome awaited us in the form of a few 'essentials' to help us settle in and make a much needed cup of tea! (Jam was excellent by the way!)

      Would definately stay again!

Cuckoo Clock lodge was immaculately clean and well equipped with stunning views in a peaceful location and only a 5 minute walk into the town of Rhayader.

The owners Jim and Sue gave excellent service throughout the booking. I would definately recommend their lodge and I hope to visit again soon.

If you want to stay in Rhayader Wales then this is the place

Left on 04/26/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Well 6 very good friends on motor bikes spent another week here at Cuckoo Clock Lodge as promised last year on the reviews.

The two garages are able to accommodate up to 6 motor bikes, which is brilliant as you know they will be covered and safe. There are washing facilities to clean the bikes too.

If you have a motorbike and you want to enjoy the fabulous and very empty roads Wales has to offer then this is the place for you and your friends.

Arrived on the Friday afternoon where Rachael had prepared Welsh tea cakes for all of us with her home made strawberry jam, delicious by the way, milk, bread, butter, tea, coffee and a lovely bottle of white wine...that too was delicious and I don't usually drink white wine, however have made a note of the name for future reference. The next morning Rachael brought over ½ dozen eggs that her chickens had laid...lovely scrambled with some bacon too.

We were able to go out on the bikes every day except for one as it was heavy rain, don't mind getting caught out when your out but I draw the line at starting your days riding in it... but hey...isn't that why Wales is so green and lush, mind you we did find a few local pubs not 10 minutes away from the lodge so we managed to amuse ourselves for the day. Plenty of pubs around that provide great food too.

The house was, as usual, spotless, lovely and warm and a pleasure to stay in, could not of wanted more. The views and surrounding areas are beautiful.

Thank you once again Jim, Sue, and Rachael. Maybe typing a third review later on in the year...

Would have no hesitation in recommending Cuckoo Clock Lodge, and re-visiting ourselves. Extremely well eqiupped house, immaculately clean, and with lovely views. Perfect for a family, our three children (13 yrs, 11yrs, and 9 yrs) particularly enjoyed having a TV in their bedrooms (!), and also the basement with table football and darts. Also a few minutes walk from the town and river, and the local leisure centre. A really stunning area, the Elan valley lakes, Devils Bridge, the kite feeding centre (do the walk round the farm too), and the Gilfach nature reserve all worth a visit.

Spacious bedrooms, luxury kitchen with all the equipment you need and a modern stylish shower room. Like the way there are instructions for all the equipment too, makes life easier. The welcome pack was a nice touch and appreciated. Spoilt for choice if you like the outdoors with the Elan Valley a couple of miles away and Gigrin farm for kite watching. A group of 6 friends all on motorbibkes stayed at Cuckoo Clock Lodge for one week, we could not of found a better home to come home to after a full days riding, all the motorbikes were accommodated in the two garages, tucked up nice and safe and dry.

Opening the door into the kitchen were home made cakes cooked by Rachael the house keeper, bread, butter, milk, and a bottle of wine, tea and coffee, perfect.

The house was spotless, heating and hot water that you could control which makes a change. The bedrooms are all lovely and large, with plenty of storage space, plenty of lighting too, and the beds were extremely comfortable, all agreed slept really well.

Could not think of anything that you need for your stay that the owners Jim & Sue had not already thought of.

Would I or any of my friends stay there again...Oh yes without doubt, next time we come over to Wales we will be staying at Cuckoo Clock Lodge, and to anyone that is thinking of using this home from home, I absolutely recommend that you do.

We had an amazing stay here. We just loved the lodge, and the owners
      had thought of everything!

We were welcomed by Rachel with some milk, eggs, bread and the most
      amazing brownies I've ever tasted.

Although there are lots of places nearby to eat, we chose to have
lunch out and eat in the lodge at night. I love kitchen gadgets and
the kitchen had every possible gadget imaginable!

The downstairs shower room was space age with a fantastic powerful
shower. It was also suitable for my elderly parents who have reduced
      mobility.

In one of the garages is a little haven of games for older children,
including a monitor for a games console, genius! Having the utilit
room is also a huge bonus when traveling with children.

I can not recommend the cuckoo clock lodge highly enough! Thank you Jim, Sue and Rachel for making our stay so special!

There is a ramp at the far side of the house which these guests hadn't noticed. I have a friend in a wheelchair and he can access the house on his own from the car park area in front of the garage without any assistance. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor if stairs are difficult for some guests to access.

Stopped for a week in Cuckoo Clock Lodge in February 2011. What a lovely location with stunning views from the moment you wake up. The Lodge was spotlessly clean and had the most well equiped kitchen I have ever rented. I was so impressed I will be going again. It was such a cosey relaxing place to stay with option of sitting in the lodge and taking in the view or visiting the one of many local pubs, shops and nice walks. You have so much on the door step and if you like a drive out theres more to see i.e waterfalls, dams and other attractions. I would recommend this area and lodge to anyone who appreicates the country side.

An Idyllic Lodge in a beautiful environment.

Left on 11/13/2009 for a stay in July 2009

Cuckoo Clock Lodge was a beautifully styled house in an idyllic location. The Lodge was extremely well equipped and it catered for our every need; from all manor of cooking implements to a brilliant little games table down in the garage. Not only was the house in perfect condition, but the area around in Rhayader was breathtaking. There was no need for a car as all neccesities were only a short way away from the house. These ranged from a sports centre, a butchers (well worth a try) and a small supermarket. Also nearby are some very exquisite bike rides which range from easy trails to hard trails and so, with a garage to store bikes in, the Lodge is ideally placed for bikers looking for a challenge! The well equipped house made our stay extremely comfortable and it made the Lodge seem much more 'homely' than other similar type guest lodges. To top it all off (The icing on the cake you could call it) there was a beautiful welcome pack when we first arrived at the Lodge which was all fresh food, and ideas for places to visit. I highly recommend this to anyone of any age!

What a brilliant place to stay

Left on 11/12/2009 for a stay in October 2009

The house had everything we needed to give us total flexibility to eat in or out or bring in take-aways. It was really comfortable with lots of space to chill out. The games room was a hit with the teens [and dad] and I loved the induction hob!

The broadband link was a bit erratic and caused us a few panics initially, but a quick call to the owner got it sorted out. Luckily we had good weather nearly all week but the one day we did get soaked was soon sorted out by the washer and tumble drier in the utility.

The town was a good base - brilliant local food shops, gift shops, an excellent photographic print shop and no problems filling the car up. We were well placed for walking or driving out to the coast, the Elan Valley dams and right on the doorstep the Red Kite centre.

There were 5 of us between 18 and 86 and there was plenty to do for everyone.

We all loved sitting at the table having breakfast and looking over the hills at the sheep and the Red Kites flying around. We come from a flat part of the country so this was a real treat.

The only thing that didn't work for us was the lighting in the lounge which, even when full on, didn't give the right light level or quality for reading or close work in the evening. As it got dark early it was a bit of an irritation and I found it easier to read in the bedroom although not as comfortable as the lounge.

All in all we had a superb week, that was stress free because we had everything we needed at our fingertips. It was spotlessly clean and so refreshing to have towels, toiletries and cleaning materials provided. The bottle of wine was a lovely surprise and the gluten free chocoalte brownies were a jackpot as we're a GF family and you couldn't have known that!

Yes, we would return if we come to that part of the country again and would definitely recommend you.
