Sugarhaus is a bright, open cottage with a great deck overlooking the mountains. It is comfortable and roomy with a large great room for gathering around the fireplace. The upstairs bunk room allows the house to accomodate a group but the downstairs is perfect for a few couples trying to get away. We've always gotten hotel/motel rooms when we travel the country, but this time since we had friends and married couples with babies, we decided to squeeze into the Sugarhaus.
When I first stepped into it, it seemed like a house. Not a cottage rented to "foreigners" at exorbitant prices. The kitchen was large enough for us to prepare food for dozens of folks, the rooms were large enough to house everyone in our party (save two who slept on the sofas). And the living room was large enough for meetings to occur throughout the weekend.
In other words... I highly recommend this property to anyone with a large group of people, or a couple wanting a nice house with a lot of space to waste.

This is a clean, open floor-plan cabin just off I-40 and only a couple miles from Black Mountain. As we're only a family of four, we used the two main-floor bedrooms (each with a bathroom), but between the sleeping loft and another tucked-away bed, a group of ten could be comfortable. As another review notes, this cabin provides access to many places by car, not by foot; if you're seeking a home base for exploring the area, it's great.

Greybeard realty is like being with family. We found out how faithful they will be to those who come year after year to stay in one of their rentals. We book the same house every year at the same time and someone else wanted the house but they kept it for us. We love the house we rent and "it" along with "their" service brings us back every year. There is easy access to everything you need. We love the house we rent because of it's location. The thing we like least about it is that we can only stay one week.

My grandson was getting married on Saturday up at Black Mountain Sanctuary and we had family arriving from California and Oregon on Friday. We arrived in Black Mountain early as some of our guests had come in on an early flight to asheville, and Greybeard Realty did its best to accomodate us getting early Because a couple of people we originally thought would be with us didn't come, we were able to keep family groups together in rooms, rather than separate into "girls" and "boys" rooms. The rooms were nicely furnished - bedrooms had clean bedding, kitchen well stocked with pots, pans and dishes.
I was so pleasantly surprised with Sugar Haus. Having been to places that look wonderful in photos, only to be disappointed with the real place, Sugar Haus was so much more than we expected. The great room/kitchen area is large and conducive to visiting and relaxing; the young men in our party enjoyed the ping pong table in the basement; iron and ironing board handy. We didn't do any cooking, but used the coffee pot and dishes for cereal and snacks. The only drawback was the bed I had was hard and left me with a back ache upon rising.
Though I do not foresee another event taking place which would cause us to need as much space as Sugar Haus has, I would certainly recommend it to others. I was also pleased with the consideration and services provided by Greybeard Realty, that I would not hesitate to use them again should the occasion arise. -

We enjoyed out stay in the Ridgecrest and Black Mountain area. Greybeard staff did a great job booking the cabin and making sure we knew just what was needed and available. We will use Greybeard again. Cabin was very clean and nice.

The customer service at Greybeard as excellent and very helpful. Sugarhaus is a lovely home in great condition. It was a lovely place for two families to stay. Plenty of room for everyone. The loft proved to be the perfect place for 6 girls (ages 15-10) to hangout. The only draw back was the location. No easy access to hiking trails or outdoor activities.

This house is adorable! We would have stayed longer if there hadn't been another family coming in.
Our favorite part was the wide open spaces, the simple yet warm decorating, it's cleanliness and the wood burning fireplace. The only drawl back was that there wasn't any queen/king size beds-which I believe would make the house that much more desirable. But the double that we slept in was comfy and worked just fine. (which is the only reason it has 4 stars on comfort) Our 2 & 4 year old also enjoyed the home. It was large enough to spread out with their toys and the couches worked to snuggle up and read together. Our 4 year old daughter loved the small closet type room as it was her "princess" hideaway. :)
I would recommend this home to anyone that wants some space, a great kitchen, a clean home, a cabin that is close to the town, but feels tucked away and a relaxing time away. If/when we come back to Black Mountain this home will be on my list! And the lovely discount that was offered was a blessing to our family-thank you to the owners.
Oh and Greybeard also welcomed us with a loaf of fresh pumpkin bread from the local bakery-delicious.Response from Greybeard Rentals - 10/27/2011
