Washington DC, District of ColumbiaGreat Small County Villa
Left on 02/03/2013 for a stay in October 2012
I loved it. The photos are great but they don't do it justice. The farmhouse consists of a villa divided into 4 apartments and a separate guest or caretakers' house where I stayed for about 10 days in Oct 2012. The owner, Ms Michela, is very accommodating and speaks good English, having lived in Rochester, NY for 3-4 years as a child. My apartment was beautiful. The kitchen-living room window opens onto a spacious grassy yard with large pool and forested view. With the windows open, the mid-day sun and outside temp warms the living areas and, when closed, retain the warmth over night; with the windows closed, the entire apartment maintains a fairly even, comfortable temp, even when much cooler outside; doors in the house are solid oak with brass hardware; the yard is beautifully maintained; facilities include a shared hot tub, barbeque grill, kids play area, covered lounge area with cushioned furniture, washer/dryer; as is typical in Italy, trash must be carried out to communal dumpster, which is about 1 km. This place is far from any town (5 km to Lucignano). You must travel a gravel road about 1 km to the house but this remoteness adds to its charm. You are really in the country. For me, the best part was being close to a major super highway (8 km to a-1). From there, I could get to many very interesting places in central Italy in less than 1 hour. In fact, my main reason for selecting this villa was its proximity to winding roads of which there are many once you leave the autostrada.

Anniversary romance-seekers
Boston, MAWe thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in May 2009
The photos do a good job of showing off the beauty of this property. The landscaping is impeccable and yet not stiff. Flowers and grass frame the pool and patio area. It was quiet in the week we visited so we had our own private estate it seemed, moving seamlessly between our kitchen and the outdoor seating where we lit a candle and sat until dark.
The inside was clean, neat, and well kept up with a modern bathroom - not fancy but very comfortable. The lower level bedroom in Casa Azalea was less ideal but in the grand scheme mattered little.
The wonderful hospitality included phone help, warm greetings and orientation, help with bikes (free to borrow), and general availability as needed during our week.
We enjoyed being away from big cities and found our drives to Siena and Chianti towns part of the charm of staying "in the middle of nowhere." The Lucignano festival and spontaneous dinner atop San Gusme were highlights.
The best parts of our stay were peculiar to us - but all made great by our return to the Casa at the end of each day. The property is truly a restful and beauty-filled spot, more lush than many agriturismo's we drove past that were more in the valley.
If you want a sweeping vista view, this isn't the place for you, the view is more upward than downward. But then again, you might trade view for actual property beauty - and in the end, we were totally satisfied having the view immediately accessible through drives and bike rides. -

Sherman, ConnecticutA lovely week in a beautiful place
Left on 06/26/2009 for a stay in October 2006
The best thing about our experience was that Casa Azalea was exactly as promised in the promotional material. The grounds, the buildings, the amenities, the location were ideal for us. The place was very attractive and clean. We loved everything about it and hope to return. The proprietors went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and convenient.
The location was, for our needs, perfect; A peaceful, rural setting, yet convenient to the central superhighway for our trips to Florence, Assisi and other Tuscan cities. We loved driving uphill the mile or so to explore the wonderful little hilltop town of Rigomagno. A somewhat larger market town was just a few miles down the country roads and ideal for all our shopping needs.
We only wish that we had chosen to come a few weeks earlier in the season when the very inviting swimming pool would have still been open.
The only quibble we have is that, while the accommodations were perfect for the two of us, the house could have been uncomfortably tight if four people had tried to share it, as the advertisement promised they could.
What we liked least was having to leave to return home at trips end. -

We were delighted that our small cottage next to the larger farmhouse
apartments was better than we hoped. It was in a wonderful location and the
grounds were lovely with an inviting pool. Several days we just stayed at
"home" and basked by the pool in the garden, read and just relaxed. We
discovered that we liked best to explore the smaller towns in the area and that
Lucignano, town next door, had a pair of excellent restaurants. It's a great
location for venturing out into the rest of Tuscany.
